question about fitbit burn vs BMR
I have a fitbit that I mostly wear full-time. There are all kinds of syncing problems between FitBit & MFP, so I'm thinking of just manually adding the exercise calories instead of trying to get it all to work. Should I take my daily calorie burn, for example, and subtract my BMR? Or is there a factor I am not considering?…

I just got my fitbit today...
I don't really understand when/how it is sync-ing with mfp. I got it in the mail midday, so I went to add my other morning exercises, and then the number shifted from my evening exercises. Additionally, I can't see the exercises I did in my fitbit dashboard, but I can see the "activity" minutes. Maybe I'm supposed to…

fitbit & hiit training
Hi! I just got my fitbit (charge hr) today, and I spent about an hour in the park with a jump rope. I did not count how many intervals I did, but I was doing about 30-40s on, and about the same off, for about 45 minutes. I'm not sure how to make this work in the fitbit. Or do I just not bother and let it calculate my…

looking for kefir making friends
I am brand new to making it and I've got so many questions, and I've done a fair amount of googlin' but I just feel like I want to talk with experienced folk. For instance, I'm babysitting some kefir grains for a friend while he's "off dairy" for a bit. When he brought them over, he also brought your instructions &…

overnight oats (cold)
So I have been reading up on this and from what I can gather the recipe is 1:1 wet to dry. wet can be milk (animal or nut/seed) or yogurt and dry is oatmeal. most recipes say 1/4c of each, which makes a half cup, and I'm guessing that's a serving size. But the jars in all the photos look really full and lovely and mine…

Delicious holy falafel... from scratch.
I'm writing this out for an MFP friend, but some of you might like it, too. Falafel is super easy to make and doesn't have to be deep fried. I pan fry mine, and I've even baked them, but they're really better fried. There are so many variations on the holy falafel, that you can't really mess it up. I had some falafel up in…

(original thread here: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/708524-6-calorie-cookies) i used almond meal & added coconut and mashed a banana into the whole thing. each cookie is a tablespoon's worth of mixture, made about 25 cookies. roughly 3c…

Dr. Weil's advice / list for a healthy waistline
I'm happy to say iI m satisfying most of this list :) * Kale. This dark, leafy green provides fiber, iron and calcium - and at about 35 calories per cup (raw and chopped), it is a low-calorie way to fill up. Choose organic when possible. * Lentils. High in protein, lentils can help prevent spikes in insulin levels that can…

help me plan my mini-vacation menus!
We're going on a little vacation to an eco-village and bringing our own food. I may update this original post throughout the day as I realize what I have on hand and what I don't. We're vegetarian, closer to vegan. We don't eat "meat replacement" products. No bread, rice nor pasta as main ingredients. A little on the side…

clothing swap?
I don't know exactly how we could do this, but I don't really want to buy new clothes at the size I'm at as it is (hopefully very temporary) and I'm losing weight rather quickly, as it is the summer and I'm fairly active. I also have a bunch of high-quality things in bigger sizes that might work for someone else in an…

Generic - it means without a name brand.
you can call me cranky because i haven't had a freaking sandwich in a month (whatevz) but i'm so unbelievably tired of trying to build my recipes and finding the term "generic" with something like "generic - Jif Honey Nut Peanut Butter" Jif is a brand name. carbohydrate question (not for opinions)
I'm trying to understand the carbohydrate equation. I understand that carbohydrates are made up of starch, fiber & sugar. I also understand that starches & sugars both produce glucose. i have only added 1.5tsp of granulated sugar to my diet. I'm over by almost 60g, but that's all whole foods sugar. does this seem reasonable? i'm not sure how to avoid it more than i have. or i guess a better question might be: is 80g of sugar a big deal when the overwhelming majority comes from whole foods? my diary is…
