Omron Fat Loss Monitor
Good morning! I just got an Omron Fat Loss Monitor (model HBF-306C). It has 2 settings: normal and athlete. To determine which setting to use it tells you to use the FIT equation: frequency x intensity x time. If your score is 60+ it says to use athlete. My score is over 60, but I have a hard time classing myself as an…

Squat problem
I'm finally transitioning away from weight machines into "real" weights. I'm still a little leary of going all out, as I lift by myself. Sooo, today was my first time doing Smith machine squats. During the transition from down to up on each rep, I experienced some strain in my left vastus medialis. It didn't hurt exactly,…

Back again!
Hello! I joined MFP last Christmas, looking like this at 190 pounds: Over the next 6 months or so, I lost about 40 pounds. I also ran two 5Ks and quit smoking. Then I got lazy. I've managed to maintain at about 155 for the last couple of months with little to no exercise (boo!) and sensible eating, but no logging. Here I…

Treadmill = epic pain?!
I've been running consistently since February. I started with C25K and "graduated" on schedule. For a while I just ran as I pleased (typically 2 - 3 miles) and two weeks ago I started B210K. Up until last week, all of this running was done outside. However, the heat has finally sent me indoors to the treadmill. It is…

Will it make a bg difference?
I'm 5'5" and currently weigh 155 lbs (down from 190 at New Years). I have my goal weight set at 145, but I'm wondering if those last 10 pounds will really make that much of a difference visually. What has your experience been?

RunKeeper problems
So, my RunKeeper App is totally hit or miss. Some days it works great and I love it. Other days (like today) it says I ran 6.8 miles (um, no. More like 3) at a 2:30 min pace, which is totally frustrating. Does anyone else have this problem? Can I fix it or is there an app that works better?

Kansas City runners?
Hello! I have a race registration for the Color Run in KCMO on 6/30 that I need to transfer. Let me know if you are interested!

Polar FT4 - waterproof?
Is the polar ft4 strap waterproof? What about the watch? I'm going to try a water class (chlorinated outdoor pool) tomorrow and wasn't sure if I could wea my HRM.

Those last few pounds...
So, I've been on MFP since Christmas and I've lost 33 pounds in that time. I'm down to those few (10-15) lbs. I would love some new friends in the same boat!

Plateaus suck - please help
So, I'm deeply frustrated with my progress recently. Background: started MFP at the new year weighing 190 (38% body fat). By the beginning of April I was down to 160 (27% body fat). I accomplished this by netting about 1400 calories a day. I did cardio for 30 minutes a day, 6 days a week, plus lifted weights for 45 minutes…

What now?
Basics: 26, female, 5'5", 160 lbs, 27% bf, exercise 6x weekly (3x running, 3x weights & cardio cross training) I started this journey in January around 1400 net calories (eating exercise calories). I lost 30 pounds by the end of March and then everything came to a screeching halt. About 4 or 5 weeks ago, I found the…

Took a fall
I was attacked by a goose on my run tonight. This caused me to fall hard on my right knee (sidewalk, not asphalt). I iced it for about 20 minutes as soon as I got home, took ibuprofen, and I've got it propped up on the coffee table? Is there anything else I can/should do? Also, my first 5K is Saturday, what are the chances…

5K NSV
I ran my first 5K today! My goal was 40 minutes. My "shoot for the moon" goal was 35 minutes. I finished in 36:08! That's an average pace of 11:38! My fastest run prior to this was at a 13:xx pace. I am absolutely blown away and had a great time! Can't wait to do it again :)

Running in Dallas?
I'll be spending a few days in Dallas towards the end of June for a conference. I will likely be staying somewhere in or near the West End. Where are some good spots to go running (3 to 4 miles) in the area? I can drive somewhere if I need to, but the closer the better because driving in Dallas freaks me out!

Flexibility NSV
As a child and teen, I was a ballet dancer. So, I was very flexible. When standing at the barre, my teacher could pick up my foot and lift my leg wherever she liked BUT my hamstrings have always been tight. Even at my fittest, I could barely reach my ankles in a seated hamstring stretch. Today, during my post run…

Question about the early weeks
So, I just recently upped my calories. I went from netting 1200 to 1400 a day (from January through 2 weeks ago). One week ago, I took a week off of exercise to heal an injury and upped my calories to about 1700 hundred. This week, I upped to 2277 (using Fat2Fit, thus not messing with exercise calories) which has me…

Running in the heat...
...sucks! I've been running for about 2 months now. With the mild "winter" we had this year, that means I've been running in 45 - 70 ish weather. Today, it was 95 degrees and my run sucked! Instead of the 25 minutes that C25K planned (that I ran just fine on Monday) I managed 15 and had to walk the remainder. Now, this is…

Hungry on higher calories
Hello! I'm 26, 5'5" currently 160 lbs, looking to get to roughly 145. I recently (as of Monday) increased my calories. I've been consistently netting 1300 to 1400 for the last 3 months and have never really felt hunger in that time. Now that I've upped my net to just shy of 1800 I'm starving all the time? I just ate almost…

Taking a week off
Good morning! I have been exercising 6x a week (3x C25K & 3x weights/cardio cross training) without fail since Christmas. (I just started the C25K 6 week ago, I was doing other cardio before) I've developed some nagging hip pain and a head cold so I've decided I need to take a week off from all exercise. My question is…

Progress Pictures
I had a great running NSV today (successfully completed C25K week 5 day 3), so as a reward I bought myself a new running outfit. Snapped a quick picture and was floored by my appearance. I've lost almost 30 pounds, but couldn't see it. Before: 185 - 190 Now: 162 (First time posting pictures... we'll see if I did it right!)

C25K NSV!
I have never been what anyone would call athletic. I am clumsy and accident prone. 5 weeks ago I started C25K with some of my coworkers. As I browsed the weeks to come I saw week 5 day 3 and began to panic. 20 minutes of straight running?! Some of the girls I run with had been doing C25K for several weeks when I joined. I…

Foam roller?
I've been having some hip & knee pain that I attribute to my IT band, so I picked up a foam roller today. Tried it out... Ouch! My question is how often should I be using it? Just after my runs, once a day, several times a day?

Posterior shin splints
So, I started C25K this week, and I'm fairly certain I'm now rocking posterior shin splints. I got fitted for new running shoes, that feel pretty awesome. I've only worn them inside, though, so I can still return them if I need to. I do ten minutes of stretching after running, ice massage when I get home along with 800 mg…

Mirror NSV
This is kind of a two part mirror NSV... Part 1: I installed a full length mirror in my closet last week. This is the first time I've had a mirror that shows anything below my shoulders since I was like 19! Part 2: I caught a glimpse of myself walking past said mirror last night and thought "Dang! Looking good!"

Color Run
I just registered for the Kansas City Color Run 5K. It'll be my first race. Anyone else doing this?

Caring for HRM
I just got a Polar FT4 and I want to make sure I treat it right. It says to machine wash the strap every fifth use. It also says not to spin dry. Does that mean I need to pull it out before the spin cycle? How do you clean your HRM?

One sided weakness
I've noticed lately that my left arm seems much weaker than my right arm. Example: doing dumbbell seated Arnold presses, 15 lbs is just right on my right side. I can do it, but it's challenging. However, on my left side I'm fighting for each rep. So, what should I do? Do I keep at the "right side" weight and hope the left…

Heavy lifting: sets v. reps?
Ok, so I understand the basic premise of heavy lifting: more weight, fewer reps. The general consensus I've seen on here is 8 reps. But, how many sets should I be aiming for?

So much math!
I need some help understanding lean body mass, body fat percentage, ideal/goal weight, etc.! I am 5'5" and currently weigh 174 on my home scale. I was weighed at my employers health fair this morning at 176. My body fat % was measured with one of those handheld things at 32%. Which would mean that my 176 pounds = 56 lbs…
