Posterior shin splints

So, I started C25K this week, and I'm fairly certain I'm now rocking posterior shin splints.
I got fitted for new running shoes, that feel pretty awesome. I've only worn them inside, though, so I can still return them if I need to. I do ten minutes of stretching after running, ice massage when I get home along with 800 mg of ibuprofen afterwards. I'm curious, though, if taking the ibuprofen before my run might be more helpful. What do you think?

Track coach suggested that my son try a neoprene sleeve for his shin splints. Physical Therapist suggested taping might be necessary as there is not adequate support from the shoe. REI and other places have inserts for shoes that form to your feet, they are really expensive and last longer than Dr Scholls.
My son has had them for three years during track season......0 -
I was actually just getting ready to post something similar! I started c25k last week and in week two I'm getting shin splints, but I am more concerned with what I can do to prevent them. If anyone has any suggestions for that I would appreciate that as well!0

I had a bad case of shin splints my sophomore year of playing baseball in college. Athletic trainer prescribed 800 mg Ibuprofen prior to practice and also had my arches taped prior to workouts along with added arch supports in my cleats.
Luckily, I have only had one case of shin splints since running post college baseball career (which was 17 or so years ago ) I got a little twinge in my knee and shins (same symptoms I got playing ball) while doing intervals a the track about a year ago. I immediately took a little break from running (about a week) and retired my shoes (Asics with around 250 miles on them) for some new kicks with better arch supports (Nike Lunarfly). That seemed to do the trick.0 -
i was told never to keep training through shin splints as you will do more damage, taking painkillers only hides the pain.. damage is still being done, I was told to rest for 2 weeks then start off slowly again, and i hate resting! =P0

I'd see a physiotherapist to have a discussion about your pain because they can offer the best advise about exercise/stretches etc. On another topic, can I clarify you're only taken 800mg ibuprofen once a day? Just beware the max daily dose is 400mg and I wouldn't usually prescribe 800mg as a single dose as it can be quite irritating to the stomach lining.0

I do only take it once per day, after my run. However, my doctor perscribed it to me and said I could take it up to 3 times a day if needed, so I can't imagine the maximum daily dose is 400 mg.0

Apologies that should have been 400mg three times a day.0
