Treadmill = epic pain?!

I've been running consistently since February. I started with C25K and "graduated" on schedule. For a while I just ran as I pleased (typically 2 - 3 miles) and two weeks ago I started B210K. Up until last week, all of this running was done outside. However, the heat has finally sent me indoors to the treadmill. It is killing my knee!
In January, I had some knee pain for which I did PT. It mostly resolved itself, it would occasionally ache a little after a run. But on the treadmill, it starts hurting while I'm running and gets increasingly severe until I stop running. The ache will then persist for several days, even if I ice/rest/ibuprofen it.
What gives?! What could I be doing on the treadmill that the outside world isn't? Outside isn't an option for me for awhile; we're hitting 110+ fairly consistently these days.

I am in physio after walking on my treadmill. I injured my knee and haven't been able to run for the last 4 weeks. He said my injury was probably because I had it on an incline the whole time I walked. Are you running on an incline? Another thing that may have caused it is new sneakers - have you switched sneakers in the last few months? I'm not an expert, just passing on what they told me at physio. Good Luck!0

Could you have worn out your sneakers? My old sneakers killed me on the treadmill, a new pair and now just the muscles ache.
I'm new to this and no expert but it could be wear?
lol just noticed the previous post said new sneakers could do it too, who knows0 -
No incline, so that isn't it. I bought these sneakers in March, so that shouldn't be the issue either.0

On a treadmill you pull yourself along, outside you push forward. It is very possible that you are over striding on the treadmill, basically landing with your foot out in front of you instead of under you. This is easy to do on the TM, especially if the pace is too fast. If your shoes are good and you are not using any incline, then try slowing it down a bit and really focusing on your feet landing underneath you vs. in front of you. On the topic of incline, having a small amount may help with your form as well plus 1 to 1.5% incline is more like running outside in terms of effort, which may help you transition back outside when it cools down.
If it is not getting better with shoes and form, then don't use the treadmill, run early, late or whatever you need to do, but do it outside. It is not worth the potential long term injury just to avoid the heat.0 -
Try slowing down on the treadmill. Run .5 mph less than what you are doing right now and see if that feels better.0
