Terry's 12 Week Bulk
Last year I did a 6 week bulk and saw great gains. Then, I got a new job, moved to a new city, re-entered grad school (and completed it finally) and took another certificate program. Oh, I got lazy too.. so nearly all of my gains from last year disappeared. But, I'm back at it finally and eager to move forward again. This…

Personal Trainers.. Where Are You?
Out of curiosity, where do you train your clients? Do you have a home gym setup or are you affiliated with a gym? Is this a challenge after getting your CPT? Is there some place you can go if you don't have a home gym and don't want to work for a big gym? Thanks.

Stronglifts for Hypertrophy?
Stronglifts is a simple yet great program for building strength. However, I don't view it as a hypertrophy program. I often see it recommended, heck, I recommend it regularly, but how does it work for muscle size increases since the rep range is outside of the traditional hypertrophy range (of 6-12 reps)? Personally, I…

ATG Squats - Low back super tired..
After some research and advice, I began doing ATG squats today. I dropped the weight considerably, down to 135lbs x 12 reps. (I would have gone up to 180lbs x 12-15 reps today otherwise). Its a good thing too.. my low back got super tight and fatigued. I did three sets, dropping the weight each time and doing 10-12 reps.…

Rabbit Starvation Syndrome!!
I was doing some research on protein consumption today when I learned about Rabbit Starvation Syndrome.. Interesting stuff.. The dangers of excessive protein intake should not be underestimated and have been recognized historically through the excess consumption of lean wild meat by early American explorers leading to a…

Why Are My Wine Calories Wrong? (or am i drunk)
So, Fat = 9 cals/gram, Carbs and Protein = 4 cals/gram. What many people don't know is that alcohol = 7 cals/gram. Tonight, I had "some" wine. When I plugged it into MFP, it came up to 540 calories. MFP lists the carbs at 52 grams and the protein at 2 grams (who knew that wine has protein - bonus). That equals 216…

Knee Sleeves?
I've had 4 knee surgeries on the left knee due to trauma when I was a kid. Last surgery was about 7 years ago to remove a portion of the lower patellar tendon and meniscus repair. I've also had a chondroplasty on that knee. MRI last year shows that I have another meniscus tear and scar tissue buildup. Despite this, it…

I've always preferred lifting heavy - in the 3-5 rep range. I don't like the gradual fatigue that comes with the higher rep ranges..

12 Week Bulk - Time to Begin!
Last year, I did a 12 week body transformation challenge. During that time, I gained about 10lbs, increased strength and saw noticeable improvements in my body. Then, I got a new job, moved, finished my masters and basically, got lazy. I'm finally ready to get back into it and I just finished a week of getting my baseline…

I'm Back!
Last year, I was involved in a 12 week transformation challenge. I wanted to gain 10lbs, from 140-150. I was successful and pleased with the results, but with relocation, a new job and finishing my MBA, the gym has fallen to the wayside over the past 6 months. During that time, I've mostly maintained the weight (at 148…

Why do so many women lift such light weights?
Just curious to hear the reasons.. I've been in the gym on and off for about 3 years. In that amount of time, I've seen very few women actually lifting "heavy" weights. Occasionally, I'll have someone ask me about an exercise I'm doing, or how to do an exercise that targets a certain body part. Inevitably, when I choose a…
