Why Are My Wine Calories Wrong? (or am i drunk)

So, Fat = 9 cals/gram, Carbs and Protein = 4 cals/gram. What many people don't know is that alcohol = 7 cals/gram.

Tonight, I had "some" wine. When I plugged it into MFP, it came up to 540 calories. MFP lists the carbs at 52 grams and the protein at 2 grams (who knew that wine has protein - bonus). That equals 216 calories. The particular wine I had is 10% alcohol by volume. So, 750ml of wine should equal 75ml of pure ethyl alcohol. Conveniently, 1 ml equals 1 gram (of water, so assuming wine and water have the same density). Therefore, 75ml of alcohol = 525 calories.

So, whats going on here? MFP says 540 calories but my calculations based on carbs, protein and alcohol = 741 calories.

Never mind. My initial assumptions were wrong. I always thought a 750ml bottle of wine was 4 glasses (20 ounces). Turns out, its 5.28 glasses. Math works out. I can now rest. :)

52 grams of carbs is not correct. Should be closer to 20. There also probably isn't that much protein in wine either. Should be about 0.1g per 5 oz.

Is your glass half full or half empty? You need to define "glass".

They really need to sell 3/4 or 1/2 bottles of wine. I can't bring myself to only leaving a quarter of the wine in the bottle, but at the same time, a whole bottle of wine has me getting crayyyyy.

Buy a whole bottle of wine and a vacu-vin - simple. Just pump out the air and it keeps fine until you wan to drink the next glass. A lot cheaper than half bottles.

I scanned the barcode on one of my wine bottles. It came up serving size= 1/2 bottle. That's about right. I seriously probably underestimate my wine calories. I usually get 4 glasses out of a bottle.

I never have an issue with my wine going bad before I want to drink the next glass.

Unless you are like me and really like the sparkling wines. I need to get splits because i can't drink a whole bottle and it does not keep.
