Eat More to Lose More?
I'm not one of those girls that starves themselves to lose weight. I eat plenty (1850/day when averaged over the week) while slowly losing and lifting, but I'm constantly seeing people on here saying "eat more to lose more." I know that the "starvation mode" thing is BS, so why would you lose more weight by eating more…

SL 5x5: Three Month Progress Update (with pics)!
Today I began my 12th week of SL 5x5, but Saturday I took my three month progress pictures and measurements. I thought I would post them here. Okay, let's start with the numbers. For reference, I'm 5'5" and I eat about 1800 gross calories per day when averaged over the entire week. WEIGHT 3/22/14 - 140 lbs 6/21/14 - 130.6…

Instagram Pimpage - Calling all ladies that lift!
I finally started an Instagram account for fitness/nutrition-related stuff, possibly some personal stuff but not much. It's a work in progress, but I'm looking to build up some followers with similar interests. To be specific, lifting heavy things and eating a lot of food. Follow me @LyndseyLovesToLift. I'll be posting…

When to move up on accessory lifts?
I recently started 5/3/1, which provides a timeline for moving up on my main lifts, but I'm wondering what the process is as for when to move up on accessory lifts. These are the ways I've been considering: 1. Move up when the weight isn't challenging. (I'm leaning away from this because it would probably take forever.…

Dole Frozen Strawberries vs. Fresh Strawberries?
I'm switching things up with my daily protein shake next week and making a more summer-y smoothie (protein powder, almond milk, water, 1/2 frozen banana, frozen strawberries, baby spinach) instead of my usual chocolate peanut butter mix. I'm trying to figure out if I should by Dole's frozen strawberries or if I should buy…

Hanging Leg Raises: Beginner?
I recently moved on from 5x5 to 5/3/1 with the Periodization Bible assistance work template. On deadlift day, I'm doing hanging leg raises using my pull-up bar. I've never really done this exercise, so I'm sort of clueless about it other than from the research I've done (YouTube videos, bodybuilding.com article(s), etc.).…

5/3/1 Ab Assistance Work
I just started 5/3/1 with Periodization Bible assistance work and, on squat day, I chose dumbbell sidebends for my ab move. Well, I don't have dumbbells, but I was thinking I could just hold a weight plate from my barbell set. Well, that didn't quite work out. I didn't like it at all. I'm already doing hanging leg raises…

Women that Lift: What program are you using?
StrongLifts 5x5? Starting Strength? New Rules for Women? Something different? Your own program you designed? What program did you start with vs. what you're doing now? Also, how long have you been lifting?

Risk of Moving on from 5x5 too Early?
I just completed my 12th week of the SL 5x5 program and I'm really itching to move on. I haven't quite "stalled" on all of my lifts, but I have had to tweak the program in order to go up in weight. The real reason I want to switch is that, though I like the simplicity of 5x5 and have gotten great results in the past 12…

What's with the pose, ladies?
It seems like some women simply cannot pose for a picture without one or both hands on their hips or waist. What's up with that? It looks incredibly awkward and forced to me.

Has anyone tried this method for weight loss?
A moderate caloric deficit and occasional (optional) exercise. Now, I know it sounds crazy, but hear me out. I've done the stuff we all know works - raspberry ketones, juicing, cleanses, starvation, all fruit diet, no fruit diet, cocaine, speed, Special K Diet, rice cake diet, soup diet, etc. I've lost a few pounds, but…

Variations of Deadlifts - Please Explain
I'm doing 5x5, so I do my deadlifts like this: I'm interested in knowing the difference between that, and a stiff-legged deadlift. Specifically, I'd assume you'd have to use less weight to do a stiff-legged deadlift, right? Also, do they work different muscles? Which is the more effective of the two? Pros and cons? Any…

Has anyone tried freezing Laughing Cow cheese?
The Laughing Cow site says freezing them will "alter the quality," but I want to know if anyone here has successfully (or unsuccessfully) frozen these wedges.

Miss Indiana's "normal" body.
Link: http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/gossip/la-et-mg-miss-indiana-mekayla-diehl-weight-20140610-story.html In a nutshell, Mekayla Diehl didn't win, but she's getting a lot of attention because she's not exactly your typical super-thin Miss USA contestant. Well, I think that's great that they had a girl up there that…

Are body fat calipers accurate?
My husband and I went to the Vitamin Shoppe this weekend and spent $18 on a set of body fat calipers. I know it's not as accurate as the dunk test or whatever, but it was pretty cheap so we got it. We read the instructions, went one inch up from the point of our right hip, pinched 2-3 inches of skin/fat away from the…

At what point should pain stop me from lifting/exercising?
I think I twisted my knee funny this weekend (or perhaps while doing a burpee during my Friday morning warm-up) and it's been bothering me a bit. Not intense pain, but just a nagging twinge when I walk or go up steps. It's on the left side of my right knee cap (so, toward the midline of my body). At rest it feels…

Why am I stuck on squats?
I've been at 120 lbs on squats for three workouts and it seems to get harder every time I do it. I don't know how the hell I'd ever go up in weight if 120 is absolutely kicking my butt every single time. Thoughts?

Do you ever look back and say.....
...what the *kitten* was I thinking?! No, I'm not talking about the time you gave that guy a handy behind Walgreens, or the time you made a fool out of yourself going after a girl that clearly wanted nothing to do with you. I'm talking specifically about nutrition and fitness related things. I look back at my 1200-calorie…

Back Squat - Form Question
This seems super simple, but I'm getting different answers from everyone. Half of the people I talk to say you have to squat down to where your thighs are parallel to the floor. Then there are those "*kitten* to grass" people that say it's not a squat unless you're deeper than parallel to the floor. So, which is it? I'm…

Am I the only one annoyed by these things?
It seems like every other forum topic has at least one of these pet peeves of mine: How do I loose weight? I just want to tone my muscles, not bulk up. My weight loss journey. I just can't eat 1200 calories - it's so much food! I may need a break from the forums. I'm about to go mad. What are your forum pet peeves?

Do you even ______?
Please explain this to me. Do you even lift? Do you even squat? Etc.... I mean, I know English, I see what it says, but with the copious amounts of people saying this on the forums and posting .gifs that say this, I have to assume it's some kind of trend. Where did it come from and what does it mean, aside from the obvious?

Should I continue to eat at a deficit?
I'm 3 lbs from goal and I've been slowly increasing my calories to find my true TDEE. Right now I'm eating an average of 1800 gross calories daily when averaged over the week. Last week, my first week eating 1800, I still lost .8 lb. I don't weigh in again until Saturday, so I'm not sure if that's a fluke or what. I was…

Lifting weights while pregnant
Don't tell me to ask my doctor. I'm not pregnant and, whenever I do get pregnant, I will obviously ask my doctor before I do any heavy lifting. Has anyone here lifted while pregnant? What was your experience with that? Did you have to lift lighter weights, lift less often, stop after a certain number of months, etc? I was…

May Progress and NSVs!
What progress did you make in May? Also, any NSVs? MINE: 3 lbs lost (.75/week). 1 inch lost from waist. .5 inch lost from hips and thighs. 1 inch lost from bust. Went up 15 lbs on OHP, 30 lbs on squats, 20 lbs on deadlifts, and 10 lbs on rows and bench press. As for NSVs, I felt so good about how my body looked before…

Desk jobs: extra exercise during lunch?
I know some people walk or go to the gym during their lunch hour as their main form of exercise, but I'm wondering if people that sit all day do any extra exercise during the workday to counterbalance the amount of time you're sitting on your tush. I started doing a little monthly plank challenge in April, which got me out…

Do you log these things?
I was just curious whether most people logged these things or not... Gum Vitamins Lemon or lime juice (like in water or over chicken/salad/tacos/etc) Water flavoring packets Seasonings (some are calorie-free, but most have sodium and a couple carbs) Marinade MY ANSWER: I don't log gum. I've never logged my multi-vitamin,…

Light-ish Snack Foods for Game Night?
My husband and I have a couple of friends coming over to our house tomorrow night to have a few drinks and play some games. I've got about 2000 calories to eat that day and I've already planned to have 2-3 drinks (Malibu and Diet Vanilla Coke), but now I'm wondering what kind of snacks to get. I don't want anything that…

Ladies, a question about your ta-tas.
This is more of a question of curiosity, as the only breasts I’ve really examined are my own. I went bikini shopping a few weeks ago and, in the horrible lighting of the Dillard’s dressing room, I could see a little unevenness on the top of my left breast if I leaned my shoulders back. More in the chest area, but it’s…

What would you say my activity level is?
I'm using Scooby's site to figure out what my TDEE is. So, as most of you already know, my options are: 1. Desk job with little exercise 2. 1-3 hrs/week of light exercise 3. 3-5 hrs/week of moderate exercise ...let's just stop there, because I don't work out for more than 5 hours per week. I do have a desk job, so I sit…
