In a nutshell, Mekayla Diehl didn't win, but she's getting a lot of attention because she's not exactly your typical super-thin Miss USA contestant.
Well, I think that's great that they had a girl up there that isn't a "bag of bones" and I think she looks great, but the thing that got me was the article's claim that Mekayla has a BMI of 18, making her far from "normal" or "average." As the article says, she's 5'8", meaning that she'd have to be about 119 lbs to have a BMI of 18. They say she wears a size 4, which I believe because my body doesn't look all that different from hers and I wear a size 4 (sometimes), but she's definitely not 119 lbs.
Thoughts?

Her ankles are uncovered!! SCANDALOUS!0

She is gorgeous, as were the other contestants who were different sizes.
I was born and raised in Indiana and this is a good representation of my state. She is bangin', IMO.0 -
She's much smaller than that picture makes her look. I was in Baton Rouge a few weeks ago and was at the casino these girls were staying at and all of them were very small, including Miss Indiana (they also really walk around with their sashes on all the time.)0

THAT'S "normal"? I'd hate to see what "too thin" looks like.
She looks awesome!0 -
I think she's awesome, but I hate how people are body shaming all of the other contestants and using her as a crutch to do so.0

Why did this make me sad?0 -

Why did this make me sad?
some people are just unprepared for "2/10" memes...0 -
Why did this make me sad?
Because cat people are overly sensitive.

She's lovely. I'd guess 130ish. I am the same height and 155lbs. My thighs are fatter and I have much bigger hips and shoulders.
But I think it's rude to imply the other ladies are "not-normal" and down right insulting and misguided to call them "a bag of bones".0 -

Just my opinion, but she is smoking-hot.

Yup, as suspected, they all look "normal" to me.

Off topic - but when that cat goes ninja on them, there will be no survivors.0 -
That's the kind of normal body I'm aspiring to. She looks fit and beautiful.0

If I know Jof, his reaction will be similar, which is why I take comfort in knowing that I was all-state on my high school's hide and seek team.0 -
That's the kind of body you used to see all the time before the wafer thin girls became the norm thanks to magazines. That's how a woman should be (if not maybe a bit curvier).0

She's beautiful. So are the other contestants.
"Bag of bones?" :noway: :noway: :noway:0 -

Why don't we let women choose how we "should be" on an individual basis based on each woman's individual goals? Crazy, right?0 -

They all look "normal" to me, whatever that means these days.0 -
Yup....hair, face, neck, shoulders, arms, hands, breasts (and other torso parts), abdomen, hips, lady bits, legs, and all the stuff off camera. Perfectly normal. I got a wife with all that too. I should make a thread for her.
(And I know you're all wondering. No, she didn't win either..but she should've!)0 -
Last year people complained that the winner was too thin  , this year too "normal" apparently  .
And this is how I feel about the bag of bones comments: :noway:0 -
the only thing that's abnormal here is the competition itself =/ can we stop the skinny-shaming and just all agree that this is just another ridiculous example of the exploitation of the female form?

Agreed, they were all gorgeous and healthy looking!!0 -

She appears to have a fairly high body fat percentage for 119 lbs if she is 5'8", but she is a beautiful woman and appears to me to be at a perfectly healthy weight.
I also disagree with usage of "bag of bones" to describe the other contestants. They all look nice to me.0
