Eat More to Lose More?

I'm not one of those girls that starves themselves to lose weight. I eat plenty (1850/day when averaged over the week) while slowly losing and lifting, but I'm constantly seeing people on here saying "eat more to lose more."

I know that the "starvation mode" thing is BS, so why would you lose more weight by eating more calories? If it's calories in vs. calories out, which I believe to be true, it doesn't logically make sense to me. I know people who claim that they moved their goal from 1300 to 1600 or something like that and ended up losing weight faster at the higher caloric intake. Is there some research behind this notion or can it be explained some other way (more "cheating" when you're eating less, for example)?

What's your take on it? Just another stupid saying with nothing to back it up or something that may be legit?

it is a stupid saying. eat more only relates to general health, more food=more fat

though it would be interesting to see the results of a VLC diet and metabolism over a long period of time, i doubt that the effects of metabolic adaptation would be great enough to offset the difference in calorietic intake compared to someone who eats at a proper deficit
