What do you consider a "binge"?
The topic of binges appears quite frequently in the forums, and in reading the posts, it seems to me that there are as many definitions or classifications of binges as there are people who post about them. So, what is your definition of a binge? And do you binge? Back in the day when I was blissfully in denial of my…

Additional arm work - any suggestions
I want to add some additional arm work - just triceps pull down and biceps curls. Should I use the same logic of SL5x5, ie heavy weights/low reps? What weight should I start at?

What's my TDEE exercise modifier?
I walk 2-2.5 miles twice daily @ 3.5-3.8mph (40min each walk) and do SL5x5 3x/wk for about 45min each work out. Other than that, I have a full time desk job and do most of the shopping, housework, cooking, cleaning. Is that lightly active (light exercise/sports 1-3 days/wk) , moderately active (moderate exercise/sports 3-5…

TDEE and %body fat/LBM?
I use TDEE-20% and have been losing about 1.5lb/wk, and I'm happy with my slow, but sure progress. I re-calculate my TDEE with every 10lb loss. My TDEE is increasing; is this because as I lose weight, I'm losing fat and therefore my LBM% is increasing? And a higher %LBM burns/requires more calories?

Who do you trust with your form?
I am starting over with SL5x5 this afternoon. I "started" about 1 month ago, but only did about 4-5 workouts. I started morning walks with my new puppy about that time, and really felt overwhelmed doing the morning walks (I was already walking evenings) and lifting, so I let the lifting slide for a while. Now I'm feeling…

Water & peeing - maybe TMI
I have started to drink LOTS of water - not forcing myself, but because my body wants it. I started out trying to get 64oz a day. I have been doing that for about 1 week, but now, I drink close to 96oz (12 - 8oz glasses). The upside is that I don't crave diet Coke anymore (soda free for 5 days). The downside - I have to…

Cottage cheese and sodium
I love cottage cheese for breakfast - love getting all that protein in the am, but the sodium kills me. 940gr in 1 cup, that's over almost 1/2 my daily sodium. Are there any "low sodium" brands out there? Are they any good?

What is sexy?
In the past, I would dream about buying clothes from Boston Proper or Victoria's Secret and look great in the clothes. Now I want to be able to look great in clothes from www.athleta.com

Donating Blood and Lifting
Next Tuesday I am donating blood; Tuesday is also lifting night. I am thinking I probably shouldn't lift after giving blood. I don't want to use that as a convenient excuse not to lift, but I'm sure it's a valid reason not to lift, right? What about cardio? The techs at the blood drive tell you to "take it easy" for…

Help me decide
Ok, I'm hungry. Time for a snack. Should it be apple slices w/peanut butter or almonds w/ a minneola tangelo?

Off to the gym - need some quick advice
Ok, so I have been going to the gym about 3-4x/wk to do C25K on the treadmill for 40min. I also walk my dog 2x/day for 25min. I will re-start SL5x5 next week. My question is as far as the cardio goes, is walking (3.5mph at 2% incline) more beneficial (as far as fat burning) than C25K at a slower pace? I really enjoy the…

Chair at work makes me achey and stiff
I didn't know where to put this post, but here goes. When I sit for an extended period of time (30mins or more) at my desk, when I get up and walk down the hall, I'm all achey and stiff. Before I came to MFP, I attributed the discomfort to my overweight body, weak knees and joints and overall aging (I'm 50). However, now…

BP MS150 Houston - April 20&21
Is anyone participating in the BP MS150 from Houston to Austin next weekend? I live in La Grange, the stop-over point for Saturday night. I was thinking I might go out to the fairgrounds with some support and healthy goodies. Callie

Dr visit - 3 month followup with great results
Just got back from an appointment with my primary care doctor. I am 50yo, 5'4", 218 lbs, pre-diabetic, hypertensive and have high cholesterol. Two months of good diet and exercise resulted with 1) drop in A1C from 6.8 to 5.9 2) drop in total cholesterol from 196 to 177 3) drop in triglycerides from 300 to 166 and 4) drop…

Optimistic attitudes
Ok, I'm all for an optimistic "can-do" attitude as opposed to a negative "can't do" attitude. But optimistic BS (I didn't workout today, but that's ok, b/c I have such an awesome attitude) is still bull****.

Started SL5x5 today
My final free session with a "trainer", so I asked him to go over the lifts for the 5x5. We had done the squats and bench press before, and I felt comfortable with them. He showed my the deadlift, overhead press and Pendlay rows. I did 5x5 of Workout B - overhead press with an empty bar (that was the hardest lift - I…

Need help with measurement/food weights
Ok, I don't have a good food scale yet, I ordered one on Amazon but haven't rec'd it yet. If anyone can help me, it would be great. How much volume do you think 1 oz sunflower seeds kernels (or something similar) would be? 1 tablespoon? 1/8 cup? 1/4 cup? I add the kernels to my breakfast for good fat & protein and have…

Help me design my SL5x5 / cardio workout schedule
I will start 5x5 tomorrow with a T-Th-S schedule. I do C25K on M-W-F. Sunday is off. I want to incorporate arms & back/chest work (bicep curls, tricep pull downs, lat pull down and seated chest row) and some leg work (leg press, etc) but don't know when to do them. I plan to do planks, situps and other core exercises on…

oh no, not again! exercise cals - to eat or not
Please let my know if I'm thinking the correctly - My daily cals of 1650 is based on the "place in the road map" theory of BMR and TDEE moderate activity (3-5x/wk). If I use MFP defaults for sedentary normal daily activities, it defaults to 1200 cals. I didn't feel comfortable with that, so I did the research and come up…

Am I over thinking this? Strength training
I want to start strength training. I am reading NROF4W, studying SL5x5 and am getting myself confused. And then throw in core exercises with a Swiss ball and I'm completely overwhelmed. The NROF4W workouts seem mind-boggling, SL5x5 is much easier to put my head around. What do you suggest for the complete beginner (50yo…

Salad dressing - what's your favorite?
I love my salads and usually eat a huge one daily, with lean chicken or other protein. And my favorite salad dressing - Creamy Garlic Caesar. It kills me on every day b/c I go over on my fat calories (set @ 30%). I desperately need some tasty ideas for salad dressing - any suggestions?

body measurement tape recommendations
I find taking my body measurements with a standard measuring tape difficult and am interested in buying a "one handed" tape measure. Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks, Callie

Ladies - how often do you...
wash your bras? Not your sports bra, but your "I wear to work, school, every day wear" bra? As I only have 2 bras that fit now (due to weight/inches lost), I alternate wearing them, and wash them once a week (after about 3 wears each). What about you?

Pain is weakness leaving the body
I love this quote because it applies not only to physical pain, but to emotional, mental, spiritual pain as well. Every time I have faced adversity and pain, I have emerged stronger at the other end.

hCG precautionary tale
Pulled directly from another thread. Unfortunately due to the hCG diet, I've had some heart stuff going on and until I get the 'okey doke' from my physician, I have to be a bit careful. My apologies in advance to the OP, I wanted to preserve your anonymity, but thought this was important to share.

How long is a "plateau"?
After having lost about 14 lbs in 5-6 weeks (from 232 to 219), I have been stuck at 219 for 3 weeks now. I also upped my cals (from MPF's 1200 to 1508 based on road map) about that time, and I have started cardio 4-5/week since last week. I know I need to give my body time to adjust to the increased calories and the…

Celebrate the small changes
I have only been working out (cardio and strength training) for a week, but today I noticed I'm standing a bit straighter, holding my head a bit higher, and my walk has a little bit of strut to it. I love feeling good about me and my body. I'm going be rockin' it soon!
