40+ women who lift
I'm 41.5 and have been lifting heavy for a few years. I'm at maintenance but want to cut about 10-15lbs by summer. I'm discouraged that my hard work in the gym is not showing and also am experiencing some programming blues. Share your successes! Sorry if there's already a lifting thread, I couldn't search successfully on…

Sumo fan but should I be also doing conventional deadlifts?
I had a personal trainer about a year ago have me try sumo and since then I've been pulling much more than I can on conventional deadlifts and it's my go-to deadlift style. Should I go back and work away on conventionals too? I never do them (aside from as a warm up set) but also never seen really anyone doing sumo at my…

Workout journal book
Anyone have a good journal that they've found for logging lifting workouts? Currently I make up a spreadsheet with 4 weeks on it and have a mini clipboard that I use. But I'm wanting a better situation -- I know I could just buy a little notebook and handwrite the workouts/sets & reps/weights in it but I'm lazy and want…

Female lifters > life after PHUL?
I've been through.........4 or 5 rounds of PHUL now and as I approach the end of this one I really want to switch things up. I'm stalling and I think I'm just getting bored hammering out the same routine. I did SL 5x5 before that, and long ago NROLFW (waaaay too complicated by the end). Any btdt, program suggestions? 3-4…

Straight legged/Romanian Deadlifts
I'm a big fan of the sumo but am looking at starting Simply Shredded and it has stiff legged in there. I sometimes do a Romanian dl when warming up for my deadlifts but have never really felt like they are doing anything. I def. don't feel it in my legs. Question a) any *problem* with subbing sumo in for straight legged?…

IIFYM & family
For those who follow IIFYM eating and have a family, kids etc. how do you accommodate weighing etc? I want to try it out but my mind implodes :o at how to juggle meal prep etc when making meals for all of the family. Weighing just mine? Weighing everything and dividing up what my portion calculates to? Brekkie & lunch are…

Deadlifts on mats
My gym has implemented a new *heavy deadlifts to be done on gym mats* policy. Like the thick, 2" red gym mats. I tried it and it felt spongy, just wrong and hard to set up for sumo style, which is my favourite style. My pointed toes were half on the mat at this stance. Anyone else have to do this? They were going around…

Stalling out :(
I'm on my 3 (or 4th?) round of PHUL and was with a trainer before that (and SL5x5 before that). So I'm maybe 2 years in to lifting heavy. After some vacation time this summer my schedule was a bit off with hitting the gym but I was there mostly 3 times a week with probably 3 weeks off. Now back to my regular schedule I…

Squats and knee pain
I have had knee pain since about the summer after doing barbell squats. I'd been squatting for a about a year up to that point. I deloaded, since I wanted to work on form anyways, and am now back up to where I left off and voila, knee pain. I took a week off from squatting and my knee feels good now. I'm wondering if I…

I am needing to break up with her for budget reasons + I've been heavy lifting for about 18 months and am ready to get to it on my own << feel bad about this.....anyways. I want to focus…

Dealing with butt wink
My back squat form really tanked when I hit about 150lbs. I deloaded and deloaded and am at 130 and still it seems my form won't fix. It's like a two-step process when I come up. Butt first, then straighten back/lift chest. I must be leaning too far forward. I'd take a form video but my gym is super anti-video. Any…

Deadlift grip
On my first deadlift today my grip was super weak -- I've never experienced this before but it freaked me right out, I thought I was going to drop the weights. So on my next lift I did the over/under grip which definitely helped. However after my *under* arm was hurting. It felt awkward during the lift too. Just an…

1x5 dead lifts
I just realized I have been doing 5x5 for the dead lifts and the program calls die just one set. Oops. If I did 5x5 at 110lbs what should I do for a 1x5? Eta the last few reps on my last set were making me grunt lol....!

Dead lifts - just one set?
I've started the program and like it but am I interpreting it right in that all exercises are 5x5, except the deadlift is 1x5? Is it supposed to be a really heavy weight? I did 5x5 @95lbs today not realizing it was supposed to be one set...and it was fine. Next time should I be adding a lot more weight, more than 10lbs as…

Bench press for newbie
I'm starting this program and feel comfortable with all the moves except the bench press. My PT never did these with me and I'm a total newb with them. I plan to start just with the Olympic bar - will I need a spotter? I'm new to my gym too, PT was at a private club. Any other tips please hit me!

Stronglifts at home or gym
Right now I weight train twice a week with a PT at a small club, with a DVD and/or 5k run in between to round out my week. It's not super convenient but was a good way to kick start my strength training as I was strictly a JM user until last fall. I'm really interested in lifting heavy - the SL program looks like a good…
