First timer
I just did my first set of two circuits of nerdfitness' bodyweight circuits today. I still weigh 309lbs, so I did the best I could. Had to modify the planks and push ups and I couldn't do quite as many squats as were called for, and my lunges are ugly, but... I did it. Red-faced and breathing hard, lol. Baby steps,…

Four month into my journey, down 63.9lbs
A little background: I am a 34yo mother of four children ranging in age from 9-14. At 5'9" I have never been what one would call petite, even in high school when I played rugby and travel softball, I carried about 175 lbs. Fast forward through 4 kids, a trans-continental move, a multi-state move and full-time school and I…

Wasa Fiber Crispbreads
...may be the most revolting thing I have eaten in a long, long time. One, they are the consistency of sawdust (as in I literally gagged as I choked down the chewed up cracker in my mouth), and two, they taste awful! Even with garlic and herb laughing cow cheese on them, it was just horrible.

Funny ("diet" related)
So I am serious about my logging. This means at Starbucks I use a little disposable plastic cup thing that holds precisely 2 measured tbsp of liquid and which I marked with sharpie at the 1tbsp level. Anyway, the lady after me ordered the same thing as me, Venti iced coffee. I measured in 3tbsp half and half. 60cals,…

A little advice for a newbie re: bodyweight exercise
I was thinking of trying the beginner routine from nerdfitness, however it calls for 10 pushups as part of the circuit. I am a 311lb woman. The last time I was able to do 10 pushups was when I played rugby/softball catcher in HS, from which I graduated 17yrs ago. Any suggestions for an exercise I could incorporate instead?…

My name is Nicole, and I like reduced-fat cheese!
Specifically: Cabot 50% reduced-fat sharp white cheddar, mini babybel light and Sargento reduced-fat string cheese in mozarella, colby-jack and sharp cheddar. I also enjoy 2% Greek yogurt, reduced-fat sour cream and milk anywhere from skim to 2%. However, completely fat-free cheese is an abomination! I find that, with the…

The power of speaking up
My favorite grocery store chain carried my favorite greek yogurt: Fage. Problem was, they only carried the fat free sort in the large containers I buy, I choose to eat the 2% fat sort. A quick talk to customer service, no problem, they'll order me some in special. I got a call today from them, only 2 days after speaking…

Hard boiled egg perfection!
http://www.seriouseats.com/2014/05/the-secrets-to-peeling-hard-boiled-eggs.html Basically, boil your water first, drop your eggs straight from fridge into boiling water, reduce to just barely below boil simmer, 11 minutes, straight to ice bath! No problems, peeled like a dream, even my 8yo had no problem with them. Tender…

MFP App
I love the breakdowns on the app. I have my macros set to 40/30/30 carb/fat/protein. Looking at my weekly pie chart, I hit 37/29/34! Nice.

My 14yo daughter
Is 5'9 and 1/2" tall and weighs roughly 120lbs. She is still growing and hasn't started her menses yet. She has made a conscious decision to not eat meat, but did not eliminate fish, dairy or eggs from her diet. For general health and growth, I believe she is getting sufficient protein, though obviously I am not tracking…

Best weight exercises I can do at home...
Caveat's being, I am a beginner and as of yet own no equipment and also I am still severely overweight and also cannot kneel on my right knee. I'd be willing to invest in some equipment, but nothing too hardcore!

Sprouted whole grain bread
Just discovered this! Great fiber and protein, few ingredients, tastes delicious toasted with natural PB on it! I think tomorrow I may try it with tuna. Chewy, dense and just lovely.

Protein powder in hot coffee?
Yea or nay? I don't like to eat in the A.M. but I always have coffee. I ordered 1lb of the ON gold standard double chocolate to try and it would be really ideal if I could just mix it into my coffee.

Random observation from a meat lover...
But nothing makes steamed broccoli taste better than the juices from a barely medium-rare hunk of steak!

A NSV (or more)
I went to give blood today. This is something I do fairly frequently bud had not since before I started my lifestyle changes in mid-April. First, the minor NSV's. My iron was 15, up from a 12.6 last time, which was barely enough to let me donate. Second, my blood pressure was 126/74. Down from being consistently 140/85.…

Best protein powder
Looking at bang for your buck? I don't need tons of protein, but enough that I am having a hard time meeting it dietarily without eating a ton of meat/fish/fowl/dairy. So, recommendations, please. And what's the best way to eat it? I've only recently started eating yogurt, so maybe smoothies?
