Bridal Shower Gift Ideas?
My cousin is getting married in September, and the shower is this month. I want to get them some kitchen stuff, and include a recipe book of healthy recipes, something I know they're both interested in. They both work full time, and my cousin is working on his Master's Degree, so they don't have a lot of time to cook. I…

Favorite Maurice Sendak Book?
Sniff . . . Maurice Sendak, widely considered the most important children’s book artist of the 20th century, who wrenched the picture book out of the safe, sanitized world of the nursery and plunged it into the dark, terrifying and hauntingly beautiful recesses of the human psyche, died on Tuesday in Danbury, Conn. He was…

Ring
My wedding ring is getting too big. It isn't ready to fall off yet, but it's quite loose. I don't want to get it resized right now--any suggestions on how I can keep it securely on my finger?

Gift Card Wrapping?
We're giving several gift cards this year, and I'm having a hard time thinking of fun ways to present them. Any suggestions?

Out for Dinner
My husband & I have a night without the kids, so we want to go out to dinner. Usually, we like Qdoba, Applebees, Olive Garden, or Outback. Sometimes we splurge at Coney Island, but I generally try to steer us in the direction of a place where at least I can get something healthy. But I guess it's gotten kind of "same old,…

Big Discrepancy
This morning, I did the Wii Fit Free Run, which is essentially jogging in place. But for 20 minutes of "jog in place" I get 300 calories from MFP, while the same time on the Free Run only get me about half that. Which should I use?

How many calories? (Indian Feast)
Disclaimer: This is my first attempt at posting pictures,. I went to the hair cutting ceremony for a friend's son this afternoon, and afterwards, we had a delicious Indian feast! I don't know half of what it was, except that it was all good! Top row: rice pudding, a "doughnut" that had been soaked in syrup, muttar paneer,…

Starting Weight Training
I still have a looooooooooong way to go in this journey, and I'd like to start some strength training (all I've been doing so far is walking, and some Yoga & Basic Step on the Wii). I think I should start with planks, crunches, wall push ups, squats, and tricep extensions. But I have no idea how many I should shoot for,…

I do solemnly swear
that I will walk at least half an hour every morning this week. After I fell last week, I haven't gotten any outdoor walks (I was regularly doing about 68 minutes every morning and sometimes evenings also). I'm feeling better, and the heat should be a little more manageable, so I'm getting back on this week! What do you…

Best Laid Plans
I had such a nice lunch planned: black bean salad with quinoa and broccoli. My daughter & I spent all morning getting ready for VBS, at the farmer's market, and grocery shopping. I don't want to cook anything, even something as simple as black bean salad. My husband stood firm with our younger daughter against getting fast…

Walking NSV
I've had a huge amount of stress the last few weeks, and it's really taken a toll on my eating choices. I'd fallen back into old, bad habits of eating my stress away. Tonight was kind of the topper, and after dinner I put on my shoes & iPod, and went out for a walk. I don't (yet) have the endurance to walk until I'm not…

Mexican Restaurant Menu Help, Please!
Last month, I went to Mom's Night Out at a local Mexican restaurant and ate nothing, because I hadn't planned for it in advance. I promised myself that this month, I would plan for it, eat accordingly, and treat myself. I found the website that has their menu (http://mexicanfiesta.net/), and I'm at a total loss. Last…
