Need a whey protein powder alternative
I've been using Optimum Nutrition 100% Gold Standard Whey, but I get headaches soon after taking it (along with bloating). What other protein powders do you like? I'm open to trying more whey since it might be the added ingredients that cause my issues, but I'd also like to try a plant protein. I've tried SunWarrior in the…

Suggestions for low-fat pescatarian diet
I'm struggling to hit my macros (40% carb/30% fat/30% protein) on a pescatarian diet and I think it's really affecting my weight loss. I always think I'm doing alright throughout the day while eating eggs, smoked salmon, greek yogurt, nuts and cottage cheese, but then I look at the fat content and it's sky-high. I usually…

Polar FT7 giving a constant high reading
I've had my Polar FT7 for about 5 years and it has always worked very well. However, I recently started getting readings of 200+ on it, so I changed the batteries on both the watch and the chest strap and washed the chest strap. Since then, I either get a reading of 0 or 200. Two minutes ago, it gave me a reading of 205…

I'm skinny but I look pregnant after eating
Has anyone ever had problems with bloating like this? I have the outline of a six pack in the morning and am at about 23% body fat (5' 8", 135). Any time, I eat, I end up looking pregnant. It never makes me feel uncomfortable but it's awful! Is there anything I can try to help? I used Align for a few weeks but it's so…

Leg/glute workout for bad knees/back?
I've been getting my knees checked out since I was 13 and no doctor can really find anything wrong with them. I think one has less cartilage than it should, but nothing ever alarming to doctors. The last doctor I saw was amazed at how puffy my knees were even though I hadn't worked out in two weeks and had been icing them.…

Lowering BF% - cardio or weights?
I'm 5'8" and about 140 lbs. Overall, I'd like to lower my body fat percentage and hopefully be down to around 132, where I was at my fittest (around 17-18% BF) I have a big event at the end of the month and would like to drop a few pounds by then. Do you think I should: - Cut calories and up the cardio - Eat more calories…

Tailbone pain during deadlifts
I did my first "real" deadlift yesterday with 90 lbs. I didn't have anyone to watch my form, but I had mirrors around me and was absolutely certain my back was flat during the entire exercise. As I was lifting the weight, though, I had a sharp pain in my tailbone. It wasn't unbearable, but was very similar to what it felt…

PB = migraine trigger / PB2 = ?
Has anyone who gets migraines as a result of eating peanut butter tried eating PB2? Peanut butter as a migraine trigger is a relatively new discovery for me. I used to eat it every day and now I can't have any! I'm not sure what the exact ingredient is that causes my migraines, though. Thoughts on using PB2 instead?

Making chocolate protein shake tastier?
I use Optimum Nutrition's Hydro Platinum Whey in the chocolate flavor. I've been using it for about two years and although I thought the taste was great for the first year, I've gotten very tired of it and find it difficult to get down. Is there anything I can do besides mixing it with milk to help?

Medication not working...?
When I was diagnosed, my doctor said most people suddenly "wake up" and feel 100% better. But she also warned me that I may not feel any effects. I've been on 25mg of Levothyroxine for about a year and haven't felt better. I don't have terrible symptoms, but I'm always cold, have thin hair and am always tired. It may not…

Is it a hindrance to not rest between lifting days?
I generally try to stick to lifting every other day but sometimes I feel lazy when I miss a day (even when I do cardio instead). Is it detrimental to my success (BF%, muscle gains, etc.) to not always rest a day? I don't usually split up muscle groups when I lift but it's always 24 hrs between sessions.

Optimum Nutrition Chocolate Protein Powder - recipes?
I generally mix this with either milk or water, and sometimes add an instant coffee to it. I'm getting pretty sick of the taste though - I've been drinking it like this for about two years. Do you have an recipes that use this kind of protein in the chocolate flavor? I tried making a bar once and it didn't work out so…

Does everyone hate their job this much?
I can't take it anymore! I graduated a little over a year ago and was the textbook overachiever in college. Dean's list, tons of awards, straight As, ran the college newspaper, editor for the lit mag and yearbook, 5 internships/jobs during the 4 years, and always always always working and doing homework. I think I partied…

Where did you get your weights?
I'm trying to find some relatively cheap weights so I can work out at home. I've seen a few of the adjustable ones at Target/KMart/Walmart but the ones I got from Walmart just fell to pieces. Do you recommend adjustable or individual dumbells, and where did you get yours?

Does gluten-free need to be 100% gluten-free?
I've decided I'm going to try my hand at going gluten-free. I haven't had any major reactions to it (not Celiac) but I've had low iron levels, bloating, aching joints, exhaustion and migraines. I think I've discovered that PB is my main migraine trigger but I would still like to see how the gluten-free lifestyle goes for…

Military Pushups
I can do regular pushups. I can do decline pushups. But I can't for the life of me do a military pushup. What is so weak on my body that I can't get my elbows to move backwards?? I know pushups require a strong core but I can do several other kinds of them and have a six pack. Does your weight have to go forward or…

Low HDL cholesterol
I recently had a blood test and was surprised to find my HDL is lingering on the low side. I did a search of this forum and many of the ways to help raise it are things I already do: Suggestions Lose weight: I'm not overweight by any means and I exercise frequently Drink alcohol in moderation: I don't have a drink once a…

Spinach tortillas and flour
What are your thoughts on spinach tortillas? I always ate wheat ones, but then I was pleasantly surprised to see the spinach ones have 10g of protein. The package advertises them as flour tortillas, though. Is this one of those situations where you're thinking you're getting something good but then it turns out to be made…

Hypothyroid and fatigue
I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism about a year ago and started taking Levothyroxene in the mornings. My TSH level was back in the normal range when I was tested a little under a year ago. My doctor said that many people feel like they've suddenly woken up to life after being medicated but warned that I may not get the…

Shin splints because of shoes?
I've been focusing more on lifting lately and slacked off on the running. I did 15 minutes of HIITs last night on the treadmill and have some killer shin splints today. Is this definitely a result of my shoes? I've lost track of how many miles I have on them but I got them about a year ago (I know the average is 6 months…

Back pain/building back muscles
I was thrown from a horse about 3 years and injured my back. The doctors initially thought I had a compression fracture of the T12, but nothing showed up on the Xray except for a little hook on the vertebra that they think I was born with. I recovered and was back riding within a little over a month (stupid move). Two…

Leg press question
This question is so incredibly stupid I don't even want to ask it. :embarassed: There's a leg press machine at my gym that's essentially a seated leg press but you're actually lying down. The foot pad is even with your body and the movement is completely horizontal. So I'm not sure if this counts as a seated or lying leg…

Confused about calorie intake
I know this has been asked several times before but I can't find it through the search function. I'm trying to lose about 10 lbs and am at about 22% BF right now. I'd like to get to about 17-19% BF - I definitely want more muscle definition. So do I go with a calorie deficit, do lots of cardio and then start increasing…

'Personal best' question
Just a random question that really doesn't matter considering a personal best is a personal best but...when you say your personal best for a certain distance is XX:XX, are you only including race times? I'm nauseous after almost every meal
...and I don't know why. I never throw up and I don't feel bad until the last bite or a few minutes after. I don't think it's acid reflux because it doesn't burn and nothing feels like it's trying to come up. I went to an allergist a few months ago because I was always sick after eating eggs, peanut butter and milk but…

I don't get sore anymore...?
I've been doing strength training for awhile now and am seeing results, but I never feel sore anymore. I always do full body because my muscles give out on me too fast…

Trouble breathing while running?
I feel like I'm having some trouble breathing while running and was wondering if anyone had suggestions to help. My running isn't hindered by my legs getting tired or…

Injured my lower back squating...
I just recently started squating and I love it! I felt great doing it the first day, and I was very careful to watch myself with my form since I know it's easy to hurt yourself with this exercise. But after trying it a second time two days later, I ended up hurting myself! I used the same weight from the day before, had…
