Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend
Anyone doing the Star Wars races in January? Hubby and I signed up for the Star Wars Challenge but decided against doing the Family 5K Fun Run too. We did all three at the Tinkerbell last year and we felt exhausted from getting up between 3am-4am three mornings in a row. Should be a fun race! We did the Avenger run last…

Chat and accountability 7/28/14 to 7/31/14
Just a practice thread to get us started before the August Challenge! LOL Had a pretty good weekend, but went off plan (a lot!) on the eating. Back to snacking on all the wrong things, but today is a new day. I did an 11.1 mile trail run/hike (hard to run when the elevation gain is over 2300 feet!) yesterday with a…

Chat and accountability 6/16/14
Hello! How is everyone doing? I had a pretty good weekend. Ran a 10K on Saturday and it was the first race (actually running!) I have done since March. I did great. Didn't have any problems with my knee during or after the race (yea!) and kept a pretty good pace throughout the race. Felt good to be back to actually running…

Chat and accountability 6/2/14
Good morning and Happy Monday! Did everyone have a good weekend? Mine was good... got a lot done, so feeling good about that! :-) Went to the Weight Watcher meeting and was up 1.6, but I was able to maintain my Free status so I didn't have to pay. And I have been doing much better with my eating. Not sure what the deal was…

Tough Mudder in June
So... who all has Carol roped into doing the Tough Mudder in June? And if you are doing it, is it your first? First Tough Mudder for me! I'm nervous, but excited. Of course, the more I hear people talk about the obstacles, the more nervous I get... But I'm excited to be trying something new and challenging. And of course,…

Chat and accountability 4/14/14
Good morning and happy Monday! How is everyone doing? I did fairly well over the weekend. Went a bit over my calories, but I'm trying not to freak out about it since most of it was clean, healthy food. Even managed to go to the theater to see a movie and NOT buy any popcorn. It was rough, but I snuck in some veggies and…

Office Pet Peeves
It's one of those days... co-workers are annoying the heck out of me! Have one in particular who starts talking loudly before she is all the way in our office (shared by three of us). Doesn't bother to see if anyone is on the phone or if the person she's speaking to is even in their cubicle. She has this habit of ending…

Do you mind eating at a restaurant by yourself?
I ask because on Thursday evenings, my husband and I always go out to dinner. He is out of town today, so I am going to go by myself. But I've had several friends who have made comments like, "All alone? Why not just get something to go and eat it at home?" For me the whole point to eating out is, well, to eat out. Seems…

The Calorie Myth
How many have read this book? I read Jonathon Bailor's The Smarter Science of Slim last April and found it very eye opening and helped to change my thinking about the "calories in/calories out" myth. Made a lot of sense to me since I had been struggling with my weight for awhile and I would have weeks were I stayed within…

Okay, maybe it's just me... (a long vent!)
...but doesn't it seem like people on the message boards are bickering a lot more than they used to about "IIFMM" vs "clean eating." Or is it because I've just recently started eating more whole/natural foods that notice it? I'm afraid to post in threads anymore because I will be shot down for what is works for me. I would…

Looking for motivation?
Okay, as Carol knows I've been struggling for some time now (since July or August... it's been a major a battle since then), but this last week was a bit better. Why? Because a friend and I challenged each other to a "No Excuses" week. In other words, we could not use any excuse to eat badly, not exercise, etc. What helped…

So... what happened to Zeke?
I was looking at my friend list trying to find some more people to invite to this group and noticed Zeke hasn't logged in for nearly two weeks. Did he get sick of the harassment... I mean... encouragement?

Favorite smart phone apps
I just recently got my first smart phone and I find myself perusing the app store quite frequently looking at all the great apps available. What are your three "must have" apps or your "go to" apps? (Besides, MFP of course!) Mine are: Runkeeper - love being able to run without having to map my route first. And the audio…

Disneyland Tinkerbell Half Marathon 2014
Hubby and I have done the Tinkerbell the last two years and are already planning to do it again. We love the race and have a lot of fun doing it. In 2012, we did the Tinkerbell in January and did the Wine & Dine in November so we could get the Coast to Coast medal. Has anyone else done the Coast to Coast Challenge?

For those of you who have lost 100+ pounds....
A while back there was a post asking people who lost 100+ pounds how long it took them to lose the weight and it got me to thinking... I was amazed by how many people on here have lost that amount of weight (Way to go!! :drinker: ), but also amazed at how quickly people were able to lose the weight (okay, and a little…

Challenge--week of 01/14/13
Okay, tough week for me to do a challenge because I leave for vacation on Thursday.... but thought others might want to participate! LOL So my exercise challenge for the week... to finish the 5K Saturday and the Half Marathon on Sunday -- and remember that it's supposed to be FUN! And my scrappy challenge for…

I was the last runner to cross the finish line...
...and I couldn't be happier! I ran a 10 mile road race on Saturday. It's a small race (about 38 people ran this year), which is run on a beautiful country road outside my hometown. I ran this race last year and enjoyed the scenery and the "smallness" of the race so much, I decided to do it again this year. I knew I was…

Emotional Eating NSV
I am an emotional eater. And even with all the weight I’ve lost, I’m still not good at separating food from emotions. Lately when I get emotional, I still binge but it’s on lesser amounts and healthier options (helps that I don’t really have junk food handy anymore). So I figured I was making strides in my emotional…

For those of you at goal or close to it...
When you got to goal, did your exercise/activity increase, decrease or stay the same? I'm just curious... for me, as I got closer to goal, my exercise increased and now I exercise 6 days a week. Some days more, some less, but I do something 6 days a week. I have found it helps to keep my weight right around my goal. Plus…

Considering running a full marathon...
I'm thinking about running a full marathon. I've ran a bunch of Half Marathons (and I'm signed up to do two more this year), but I feel it's time to challenge myself a bit more. For those of you that have a run a full, what advice would you give to a novice marathoner? Training, pre-race, race day, recovery... whatever…

Runners will get what big deal this is...
A little back story.... I have been overweight/obese/morbidly obese most of my life. I have not been at healthy weight since early grade school. So to say I was not athletic growing up would be an understatement. I occasionally rode my bike or walked with my friends, but I never participated in games of tag or played in…

Training for a night race
I have signed up to the Walt Disney World Wine & Dine Half Marathon, which is a night time race (10pm). I was wondering if anyone had done a long distance run at night and if so, how did you train for it? Also, what did you eat before your long training runs/the race? I am a morning runner, so any advice, suggestions or…

I'm finally healthy!
Okay, several friends have pointed out that I have been healthy for a couple of years. But as of this morning, I finally lost enough weight to be within the "healthy" range on the BMI Chart. Took me 7 1/2 years, but I finally lost 120 pounds. I'm so excited. I never dreamed I could get to this weight! Been doing the happy…

117.4 pounds gone... (pic included)
I am so happy I found this site. It was definitely the boost I needed after being stalled for nearly 7 months. Since joining here I have lost the few pounds I had gained back, plus some. And now I am just 2.4 pounds away from a healthy BMI... and getting to a weight I never thought possible. It's taken me 7 1/2 years to…

Night time 1/2 Marathon...
Has anyone done a 1/2 marathon (or full) at night? Fiance and I are going to do a late night 1/2 marathon in 2012, so we are gathering information on how to train for a night race (we've always done early morning starts). Also, what do you eat during the day prior to the race? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks MFP
I just have to give a big thanks to MFP! I am a WW member (okay, and on staff at WW...), but have been struggling with the PointsPlus program. I had lost 113 pounds and reached Lifetime status with WW right before the change in program... and have struggled with keeping my weight within the goal range to maintain Lifetime.…
