Question about squats
Hi, I have been doing 100 squats per day (either with no additional weight or 5lbs) since this summer. Since I have been doing that I have been eating under the amount my Fitbit tells me I burn, but I have not lost inches- I have GAINED them. I was under the impression that you cannot "bulk" if you are at a deficit. My…

Are my calculations correct?
Hi, I posted this in the Getting Started forum and was advised to post it here in this group to get help. To start off, my calorie goal is set at 1200. (I know that's low.) My TDEE is 1795, and I aim to eat a 20% cut of that, which is 1436 per day. For the past 6 weeks, here is what I've actually eaten. (Average weekly…

Intermittent fasting
I have been reading up on intermittent fasting and one article I read says it is fine to have green tea, coffee, or a similar zero calorie beverage during the times that you are not eating. I normally only eat in an 8 hour window anyway. It's just what I'm comfortable doing. I have done this before hearing about IF, and I…

My true TDEE
I would like to estimate my true TDEE but I need some help with the math. Here's my average weekly calories eaten (not net, actual intake) for the past 7 weeks: Calorie average by week: Week 1- 1655 Week 2- 1632 Week 3- 1489 Week 4- 1320 Week 5- 1519 Week 6- 1601 Week 7- 1578 Here's my weight loss by week. So far I have…

Question about carbs and everything else
I just calculated my macro goals according to the Eat, Train, Progress thread here: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/819055-setting-your-calorie-and-macro-targets I couldn't comment on that thread with my question since there was no place to reply so I wanted to post it here. I did all the math and found out that I…

Kalicious Green Smoothie
I love these things from Whole Foods. I also found a recipe to make your own at home: http://www.thatorganicgirl.com/2012/03/kalicious-green-smoothie-recipe.html My question is, why does the MFP database say these are either 275 or 300 something calories!? That's crazy, do you think it's really that high? 1/2 cup of apple…

It's finally working!
Not new to MFP but new to actually eating healthy. I've lost 4 pounds and I'm determined to lose more. I'm looking for similar friends, I'm 26, need to lose around 30 or 40, I'm 5'2 ish and live in New England. I like photography and anything girly!

Eating too much
I was doing very well at 1620 calories, losing between a quarter and half a pound a week. (My body doesn't lose any faster and I've learned to live with it.) However, for the past few weeks I have been going over and I really need to get back at it! Every Monday I tell myself it's a new week, I can start fresh, but then I…

Support for weekly weigh-ins
I used to be obsessed with weighing daily so I could see my regular fluctuation but it's only been bringing me down. I am a serial weigher and have been for years. I started to space out my weigh-ins to every few days and am now working on weighing in only once a week. I think this will help me and motivate me. Anyone else…

Starting again
I'm not new, but I am recently starting again after falling off the wagon. I started MFP in Sept of 2011 weighing 160 pounds. I lost weight very slowly and tried everything, including the gym 6 days a week and eating anywhere from 1000 (I know, too low) to 1900 calories. Nothing worked. I tried In Place Of A Road Map and…

Smith machine
I am starting Stronglifts and I know it is not recommended to do the program with a smith machine. My gym only has a smith machine, what should I do? I definitely will not be switching gyms, there's only one other in my area and I HATE it. Would I be okay just doing it anyway?

Hungry all the time
Ever since I upped my calories to 1740 I am hungry all the time! I don't mind it since I have plenty of healthy snacks I can eat and I'm not gaining weight. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this? Is it a good thing? When I was on 1200 I was hardly ever hungry.

Who else is doing TDEE minus 10,15,20%
I have been doing it for two weeks and still waiting to see a loss. I know it could take me a month or even more since I tend to lose very slowly. I have done it in the past and I know it works, and it takes patience. While I wait, anyone want to share their experiences with this method? How long did it take for the weight…

Most people are not sedentary
MFP gave me a TDEE of 1730 at sedentary. At lightly active, it gave me a TDEE of 1870. I thought, no way am I lightly active. If I don't include my exercise, literally all I do is work at my desk job and sit around at home. I thought if I set my activity level to lightly active, I wouldn't have a large enough calorie…

HRMs and strength training
I want to get an HRM so I can see how many calories I burn at the gym. My main exercises are core class, step aerobics class, and C25k. However I also do circuit strength training and part of my aerobics class is lifting. So I need to know how many calories I burn while weight lifting. Would an HRM work for that? I know…

Who else here doesn't lose on 1500?
I feel abnormal because so many people have a TDEE up in the 2000s, making it easy for them to lose weight on a normal amount of calories, like 1500-1700. In January, I netted 1500 and maintained at 157. In February, I netted 1700 and gained 3 pounds. In March and April I netted 1500 and maintained at 160...I did not lose…

Body fat percentage help
I have used all the calculators out there. The ones that are military or navy calculators that ask your neck size (13) say I'm 34% body fat. The ones that ask my wrist and forearm size (6 and 9 inches) say I'm 27% body fat. I'm going to get a set of calipers eventually, but for now which one should I believe? And why such…

Can we talk about TOM?
The day before my TOM I gain a pound or two, sometimes even three. Throughout most of it I'll remain about a pound heavier than my normal weight. Then at the very end I'll be back to my normal weight. I stick to my calories and macros and don't eat any differently than regular weeks, but even if I eat great I still don't…

Is it realistic to lose an inch a month?
I am 5'2, 155 pounds, 24 years old, female. In the past 2 months I lost an inch off my bust, waist, hips and thighs lifting every 3-5 days. I am so motivated by the small changes I see that I have increased my lifting to every other day, lifting as heavy as possible, increasing my lift by 5 pounds as often as I can stand…

How fast do you lose inches?
I started lifting in the middle of April, and did it every third or fourth day...I'd say twice a week. At the end of June I had lost an inch to an inch and a half all over. I was so excited! Now I'm lifting every other day, and added an at home circuit training routine that includes cardio. I want to lose another inch in…

I need help with macros!
My goals are set to 40/30/30 but my daily goal is 151 carbs, 50 fat, 113 protein...are those numbers not 40/30/30 because a gram is a different size for each item?

Nuts, pistachios, almonds, etc
Is it okay to eat a serving or two of those things daily? By "okay" I mean are they good for you, or can you overdo them? I love trail mix but the ones at the store are so high calorie and full of sodium, so I make my own with unsalted, dry roasted ingredients. It keeps me so full at work. Is this something I can continue…

Finding your maintenance level using trial and error
Who has found an accurate maintenance level for themselves using the calorie intake for weeks they gained, weeks they lost, and weeks they did neither? For example, I ate an average of 1600 calories a week for the month of June and lost very slightly, about a quarter pound a week to half a pound a week. For the past week…

For those of you who don't eat exercise cals back
Do you just not log your exercise, or do you log it at the end of the day? If you log it right after you complete the exercise does it get confusing when MFP says "You've earned 300 extra calories from exercise today" but you really haven't, so you have to keep a different number than it actually says in mind the whole…

Are these foods considered "processed"?
So a Chef Boyardee can of pre-made spaghetti that you just pop in the microwave is obviously processed, high sodium, lots of chemicals just not good for you. When I go to the store and buy whole wheat pasta/noodles and a can of spaghetti sauce is that still considered processed since I didn't make the sauce myself? Another…

Is Nautilus the same as Circuit training?
I do my Nautilus circuit in 20 minutes and it says I burn 168 calories, but that sounds like more than I really burn. Is Nautilus and Circuit the same thing or am I doing it wrong?

Macros
I know what they are, but why are they called macros? Is that an abbreviation for something? I eat 50% carbs, 30% fat, and 20% protein. I don't think that's very good so I have made my goal 40% carbs, 30% fat, and 30% protein. Does this sound good, or should I make more adjustments? I am losing right now but I do seem to…
