Kalicious Green Smoothie

I love these things from Whole Foods. I also found a recipe to make your own at home:

My question is, why does the MFP database say these are either 275 or 300 something calories!? That's crazy, do you think it's really that high?

1/2 cup of apple juice- 60 cals
1 banana- 100 cals
1/2 lemon- 8 cals
1 cup spinach- 7 cals
1 cup kale (is this equivalent to 3 kale leaves?)- 33 calories

I checked the ingredients on the smoothie and it says: Apple juice, Kale, Spinach, Banana, Lemon. It's 16 oz or 1 lb. I don't get where all these extra cals are coming from?

If apple juice and bananas are listed before everything, it's probably just the sugars from those, especially if the end product actually tastes decent.

But if they put apple juice and bananas in, the 1/2 cup of apple juice would only be about 60 cals and the banana would only be about 100 cals. Even if they put a whole cup of apple juice it would only be 120 cals. I'm not sure what it is that makes it equal 275 or 300.

That's gotta be a really small banana if it's only 100 calories... ever since I started weighing food I realized that my "small" bananas were quite high in calories. If you're just using a random entry on the database it may actually be more calories than the one you're using. Personally, I'd weigh the banana each time and add it in separately or try to get one close to the same weight each time you buy the ingredients for this recipe.

I"m pretty sure anything with kale is not delicious- much less kalicious.

makes me sad- I feel like it ruins a perfectly good smoothie LOL.

Although I do stomach spinnach in my smoothies- it's not my go to.
