Calories during Workout days
Hi, Was wondering if I should stick to having the same amount of calories during lifting days. I usually lift 4 days a week & have my calories set to about 1700 for wanting to cut back BF%. Should I up my calories & carbs while still staying below maintenance during the days I workout or should it remain the same? Thanks.

Individual Advice Please
Hi. This morning I posted a thread about cutting down on sugar (specifically refined sugars) and seemed to have started a heated debate. Amongst that heated debate, I had a couple of people refer me to this post for some no-nonsense advice. I'll get straight to the point. I'm at a weight-loss stall When I started MFP about…

Belly fat
Just looking for advice/opinions. I've always had belly fat. Since im an apple shape that's apparently where I carry all of it. Even at my lowest weight, I still have a pretty big belly. I always thought it was because of poor diet but NOW that I went from 156lbs to 118lbs(high school weight) AND cleaned up my diet, all…

Online consulting
Hey everyone! So as some of you know, for the past 14 months, I've been consulting people (free of charge) that I've selected through an application process, to coach online over Skype in a one-on-one format, to help people get closer to their fitness and/or body composition goals and to get experience coaching in that…

Help from Mods, please: re TDEE & Fitbit
I have also posted about this in the forums, but thought you guys might have a better insight: After reading your information re TDEE vs BMR and calorie intakes, I'm adjusting my calorie requirements on MFP to a higher level manually (I currently have MFP set to lose 0.5kg a week which gives me 1450 calories per day for).…

How much time to spend at the gym?
For those that have seen good results from weights, how much time in the gym do you spend lifting? My workout routine takes about a 45min to an hour. 15 of it on cardio and 30-45 on weights. Curious if that is in-line with what others do?

Please help with my weight stall!
Provide your stats (height/weight/age/bodyfat% if you know it/etc) 64 inches, 139 pounds, 24 years old. 23% with upper body handheld measure, 33% with lower body scale. So I'm guessing somewhere in the middle of those two What's your current gross intake of calories, on average? ~1750 in the last 2 weeks. 1900 before that.…

Help.. so what do I do when i get "there?"
I'm well versed in the setting calorie goals at a deficit, macros etc. and good at eating at a deficit. I'm about 260ish right now, 14-15% body fat and probably have a month, maybe two until I get the BF down a percent or two. I remember a few times Sara and SideSteel saying that once at around 12% BF to stop the deficit…

Repost: Setting your intake in 1g increments.
Use this at your own risk. Please do not post publicly yet as I'm waiting for moderator approval just to make sure this doesn't violate MFP rules. This will allow you to set your intake by 1g increments instead of 5%. http://karoshiethos.com/

Bulk phase #2
I'm ready for my next bulk phase. My current weight is 152# at 8%BF and my goal weight is 165# at 10%BF. I'll try to keep this thread up to date with my progress, during the bulk. I just had my first hydrostatic body composition analysis done and here are the vital stats: -- Age: 49 Weight: 152 lbs Height: 66" Body fat%:…

Please help with stall
Hi guys, I've been struggling to drop a weight class for powerlifting since I think based on the way I look right now, competing at 148 would put me at a relatively lean but not impossible to achieve/maintain physique. I believe I've made some body comp changes (see bf thread) but would really like to see the scale to…

Need help with weight routine for beginner
Hey SideSteel and Sara! First, thanks for all the help you provide here, I feel I've already learned a ton about fitness and nutrition just by reading. Based on that I've decided to join my uni gym in August (when the new semester starts) and need help with putting together a programme. There aren't any trainers in the…

Pepper your angus! Sara is coming to visit!
Hey everyone, This coming week, Sara is coming to visit my family. Originally it was because I had entered the USAPL TC open on 8/16 (my birthday!) to compete in my first powerlifting meet. Due to a minor injury/tweak to my back I won't make this meet, but she is coming to hang out. (Aside: I still plan on getting on the…

How fast is too fast for a cut?
I've been bulking for months. After my powerlifting meet in 1 week, I will start a cut. I'm 195 lbs and 20-21% BF according to two different impedance method BF estimators, and my mirror, LOL. I will lose 15-20 lbs. When it comes to retaining lean mass, how fast is too fast for a cut? During my last cut, I experienced a…

Why do people plateau?
I thought this was an interesting article/study on the causes of weight loss plateaus. In summary, they look at lack of dietary adherence vs other factors such as metabolic adaptation and reduction in Energy Expenditure (eg NEAT) as causes for plateaus. The cliffs: it seems that a lack of adherence (either intentional or…

Please Check my Diary?
Hi there, I'm new to this group so I'm sure this question has been asked before, but why in the world have I not lost wore weight? I am 5ft and 120lbs I would like to get down to 110. Through most of my life I was very overweight and then in high school I started to see a nutritionist who got me on the right track. But…

weight training with broken rib?
(cross posted on Fitness and Exercise board) I'm looking for some weight training advice (understanding that no one here is a doctor - but maybe a trainer?) Here is the back story. I had a good run - I started working out in October of 2013 - mostly lifting weights and working on body recomp. Then, in May of this year I…

Article on IIFYM - great read
Really good article explaining IIFYM - it's short but addresses the main concepts. http://www.muscleandfitness.com/nutrition/lose-fat/everything-you-need-know-about-iifym? When do you know it's time to deload?
I've been doing Strong Lifts 5x5 (on a deficit) twice a week for a few months and upped it to 3 times a week about a month ago. I'm at the end of 3 months now. I've gone from 95lb squat to a 140lb squat, but it's stayed at that weight the last couple weeks. I started doing them today (after the weekend break) and I was on…

Diabetes, sugar, ETP, and MFP
please read the tl;dr version at the bottom if you prefer. This post gets drifted a bit I met a dear friend of mine who I have known from US. He is a big fan of ice cream. He is actually the one who I can blame for my addiction of ice cream. However this time when I met him, after eating the main course, I started going…

Deadlifts and Squats
Good Morning! Im compiling a strength and lifting routine today and have a question regarding squats and deadlifts. Does personal preference come into play when choosing, say, between a clean deadlift or Stiff-legged? I've watched demos and there are slight differences and conflicting opinions on the sites. And squats, I…

Would Love Some Advice
Hi Sidesteel and Sarauk2sf I would love a bit of advice. Or a lot of advice. There is so much stuff in the forums and I don't feel like I can ask a question without being called an idiot, or getting insane advice. My question is pretty close to a lady who just posted, we have almost the same stats, but I didn't want to…

too low calorie level causing fatigue?
Does anybody else get fatigued and slow witted on MFP's calorie level recommendation? It recommended 1710 cals a day for me at sedentary lifestyle, not including workouts. I do weights two or three times a week for 1 hour and run twice a week for 20 minutes. It went ok for about two weeks but now I just can't sustain it…

Just want to say thank you!
I've been on here since 2009. It wasn't until about a year ago when I started reading your advice that I really started seeing consistent, sustainable and surprisingly easy to accomplish results. It all makes sense now, easy to maintain, and I get to eat Ice Cream!

What should I set my calories to?
So, I'm still uncertain on where to set my calories, so I just wanted to run this by you folks. This is because the descriptors for activity levels on TDEE calculators don't seem to match what my days are like. I'm doing Strong Lifts 3 days a week (the main compounds), so I figure that as about 3 hours a week. Outside of…

New to this group - Body Recomp Help
Hi everyone, Firstly, I am so glad I found this group! I am not looking to lose weight any longer, but to do body recomp. As a background, I'm 5'7 and roughly 135 lbs. I have a medium frame and a "rectangular" frame or an apple shape I would say. Really lean legs, stronger upper body. I've always struggled with my shape…
