Looking for Some Help Here Regarding Soreness (DOMS)
You two (Sarah and Sidesteel) have helped me before when I believed I was stuck in a plateau and now I'm looking for some help with soreness, in particular my left hip flexor, after working out. I took a diet break in July and August and maintained my weight and also managed to get to the gym about three days a week. I was…

Overhead Press Question
After a lot of procrastination I finally got around to joining a gym and have just completed week 6 of Strong lifts. I have been following the spreadsheet and progressing nicely on all of the lifts except the overhead press. In fact I started to struggle to complete 5x5 at the start of week for and have now just completed…

Diet Break
So, when I was away for a couple weeks, I basically had no workouts (I really have to work my way up again, especially on squats, which I was already starting to work up again due to the hip impingement issue). I also was being fed really well by my family (read that as treating me to breakfast, lunch, and dinner out…

Need some guidance please
Good morning all! I've been a group member for a while, but this is my first post in here. I could really use your help, and I will try and make this as brief and to the point as possible. Last year I lost between 15 and 18 lbs using MFP counting calories only. I lost it very quickly, and with little to no exercise. I am…

Weighing food - cooked or raw
Which way is better or should it based on the form you are eating the food in? The website IIFYM suggests to weigh meats as their raw weight. I know the database has calories for both raw and cooked meats (although noticing actual caloric values are way off sometime so I cross check with Google frequently) . I am…

Goal - lowering BF - is it a good routine?
I would be very thankful for your input here. I'm 39, 5'7'', 64-65 kg. My scale says I have 24% body fat, but it is sitting mainly in my lower body / abdominal area. I suffer from an under-functioning thyroid ( Hashimoto's ). I'm medicated. My current routine is: 1. commuting to work on my bike - 15 km * 5 days a week (…

C4 Extreme and Creatine
I used C4 Extreme for the first time today before my workout. I must say I was quite surprised to notice such a huge difference. :) I'm thinking of also adding in creatine. Our son has ON creatine nitrite. Should I try the C4 alone for a while first, or can I add in creatine right away? If so, how much should I take, when…

Shins and dead lifts.
My shins are pretty beat up from todays dead lifts. I try to lift with the bar close to my shins without rubbing too much but the heavier I go the worse it gets. I dont even feel it while Im lifting. Is this a bad thing or something I should try to correct or should I just get some longer socks and live with it?

Suggestions for Routine with Limited Gym Access
I'm a new mom, and I'm not able to return to my big nice gym at this time. I have a small gym in my complex that I'm able to sneak off to before the baby wakes up in the morning, but it only has a few machines and no free weights except for one set of 35 lb. dumbbells. Anybody willing to help me come up with a good…

Learning the hip hinge?
Has anyone else needed to break down the movements into the smallest parts before progressing? Anybody else feel their low flexibility is a barrier to be corrected before even beginning lifts? Noob here, and just yesterday I learned about the 'Hip hinge" Stronglifts 5x5 were suggested by many people so I have been trying…

BF% Ranges for cutting and bulking
Hi all, I am currently at apx 19% body fat. I run and lift regularly (mostly compounds). In terms of body fat, what are the ideal ranges for determining when to cut and when to bulk? One user suggested cutting to 12% and bulking to 15% as a rule of thumb. Thoughts? Any feedback would be appreciated.

doing stronglifts and becoming less muscley
Maybe someone has an idea? I started Stronglifts 5x5 properly some 4 weeks ago. Since then I seem to be losing muscles. At least my *kitten* is less round and the side of my thighs are showing again. My belly isn't as flat anymore as it used to be. Maybe the problem is that I cannot do Stronglifts as often as it's…

New to deadlift and DOMS...
I've been lifting free weight for about 14 months now, the last 6 of which have been barbell, previously used dumbbells as that was all I had access to. The *only* lift I avoided was DL, it is/was just a confidence thing. For some reason I was petrified of doing it. After some prompting I've spent a lot of time working on…

Resistance routine for a cardio boy

Question about Maximum Heart Rate
How do I figure out what my maximum heart rate is to put a number into my Polar FT4 HRM? How much of a difference does it make to the calories burnt number at the end of my workout? I googled for it and lots of formulae came up, but then when I looked through the forums here, there were people that said those formulae were…

Help! I want to LIFT!!!
Hello! I've been on and off working out with StrongLifts for the last year. I've really really loved it and was making some great progress until I injured my knee doing squats back in April. I immediately stopped lifting and religiously followed my physical therapist's instructions. Turns out my knees were misaligned and I…

TDEE Settings
I am reposting this from the general forums in hopes of getting some feedback: I am using the TDEE method (-20%) but am unsure how to set the activity level. On the scooby calculator it has options for light, medium, heavy etc activity. My exercise: MWF - Stronlifts 5x5 plus 2 additional 5x5 supporting exercises (usually…

Recalculating deficit
Hey everyone. I am 19/male/5'7" and weigh about 139-140 lbs. I have estimated my body fat to be around 16.5% (using a caliper). Since May 2013, I have lost about 50 lbs, but I still have a high body fat percentage because at the start of my journey I had no idea what I was doing and I suspect that I had lost a lot of LBM.…

Oh Noes! I am eating below my BMR
If you have a reasonable caloric deficit (based on your actual results), and are even vaguely active then, when averaging it out, no you are not. And even if you were, there is no evidence to support that it is an issue in any event. Having a large deficit can well be an issue, depending on the context, and having a very…

Dumbbell OHP form question
Hey everyone! I'm confused about proper form for dumbbell OHPs. I don't have access to a trainer so I've been watching a lot of instructions on all the lifts, and for dumbbell OHPs I'm seeing some people go down until the dumbbells are about shoulder height (e.g. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qEwKCR5JCog, also the…

Getting out of Dodge...
So, I'll be heading out of town for a few weeks, and I'm wondering how to handle my macros/exercise. I doubt I will have access to any weights (I don't want to sign up for a full blown gym membership when I only need a month). So, how would I handle this? I can do some body weight exercises, but what would be the…

Working out injured?
So I messed up my knee mountaineering about 3 months ago. Sprained ACL, Syndesmosis sprain, Torn superior tib fib ligament (the one in my knee not in my ankle). I'm walking and doing physio but I'm going nuts. My physio says I can work out as long as it doesn't hurt my knee. I'm trying to stay active but I'm having a hard…

Power/Squat rack and Olympic Weights
Recently I purchased a power/Squat rack. Here's the link: http://www.fitnessavenue.ca/item.php?id=263 I have never lifted with anything but dumbbells. Suggestions for a new program
The fall months are arriving, which means sweaters will be worn, which means bulking can (and will) be done. I am looking for suggestions on a new program for this bulk.
