Congrats on your new addition! I couldn't really buckle down and focus on losing weight until my son was 16 months and I was not exhausted anymore. Timing is everything and I do think it is important to put ourselves in a position to succeed.

Second this. We've got some treats in the house for Thanksgiving and I managed to dig in early. :( Can't do that when there is nothing bad to dig into.good luck, though. It's not easy establishing new habits, but we can do it!

Congrats! I'm also six feet tall. I want to know how you did it....and also where you found such long pants :-P

Great work!!

I played basketball in college, if that's what you are asking. I do think that weight-loss is a unique journey for former athletes, in part (at least for me) that my whole life I never had to worry about what I ate. I never thought about my weight. But once the intense training stops, you can't really eat the way you have…

Wow! Great job! What did you think helped you the most?

nice work!!

Congratulations on the awesome work!

My unpopular opinion is that I love food. And not crappy frankenfood like chips, fast food and most stuff that comes in a box. But rather creative and perfectly-executed dishes featuring nuanced flavors and cooking techniques. People that share their diaries while losing, but show that they eat protein/nutrient bars,…

Good for you! I think weight-lifting is the real secret to changing body shape for the better. I am also lifting and while the scale has not gone down as much as I'd like (muscle weighs more than fat) I have really noticed a change in how my clothes fit. Take pics to keep yourself motivated!

I mix tuna with avocado instead of mayo and mix in celery for crunch. Not sure it's appropriate for a bedtime snack, but for anyone reading this thread, I've found it to be really satisfying lunch!

Congrats! You look great! Can you provide some sample menus for what you would eat in a day?

At my GP's office, all the rooms have this poster on the door highlighting the point that 95% of people who lose weight eventually gain it back. I seriously don't understand the point of these posters, because it definitely is not very motivating! I have read that doctors are quite hapless at discussing weight loss with…

Ugh! I try to remind myself that people are trying to be thoughtful, but I really hate when people bring in food/candy/doughnuts and set them out. Like others said, all you can really do is "say no," but it's hard to be around food all day long and say no. I often can do it for a day or so, but if there is candy or…

Wow!! Great job on all your hard work. I'm just curious: You said you ate the same thing every day. What was it?
-
That is tough. I find logging food so mentally draining...I'm hoping that I won't have to do it forever, but is there any way around it??
-
Wow, great job!!

thank you to most of the responders. I haven't used leg machines (maybe ever) and have always used free weights when lifting lower body (and upper for that matter). For anyone who has had a back injury, you know how it can screw with your thinking and I appreciate the feedback. Consulting a physical therapist is on my list…

I think you missed the part about me being a former collegiate athlete (at a major institution) and lifting for more than 20 years. I more than know my way around the weight room and have also had lots of training on technique. and nowhere in my summary did I suggest that one can spot-reduce. I was looking for informed…

The weight is coming off sooooooo slowly. My mini goal is just to meet my calorie goal today. And then tomorrow I will have the same goal. If I reach that goal every day the weight should theoretically come off, even if it is slower than I'd like.

I think you raise an important point about food being comfort. It is really hard to completely give up comfort food. Still working that out myself. Right now I try to calorie count as accurately as possible to try and "budget" for a more heavy/comforting meal. I'm not sure if that is the best thing to do--this is supposed…

Great job!!

A Tablespoon of EVOO is 120 calories, I believe, (if I remember correctly). So do count that. But, yes, 700-some calories a day seems really low and unhealthy.

This is why I don't want family members to "know" that I am trying to lose weight. If they don't know, then they don't comment on how I am eating or the choices I am making. But if they do know, then I feel like I'll be under constant surveillance and subject to their evaluations.

1 slice toasted quinoa bread (bought by mistake, but yummy and healthy, so I'm going with it!) with avocado on it, and an egg. Coffee and 1 Tb of half and half.

You look great! And also: Wonder Woman sports bra--WANT!!

I'm 40, with a 16-month-old. My baby weight has turned into just...weight. I'm on the slow-but-steady plan. Nothing drastic, but trying to start some new habits that hopefully will become permanent. Trying to lose about 20 lbs.
-
Definitely. I've stopped buying sweets for the most part and chips, as well. I just don't have the willpower after a hard day at work, etc. to avoid them. We've kind of settled into a new routine of not having that stuff around, or at least only once in awhile.
-
So the big question is, how do you control the cravings? I suspect it's easier said than done.

This is all amazing advice. Thank you ladies!!
