Agree with Gaucho for the most part..but something that is always touted on just about any weight loss furum is " you cant gain muscle while in a deficit".. this is simply false.. yes you can.. no mention of how large a deficit or how much muscle gain but it is very much possible. Now will you pack on Mr Olympia style…

The USDA is flat out wrong sorry. My opinion. Most studies will show diets higher in protein are better at retaining/preserving LBM, especially when in a calorie deficit. If you are going to er, er on the side of MORE protein.

The single reason these actors are able to workout at the intensity you describe at their advanced age (mid to late 40s, some even older) is BECAUSE of the compounds they are taking, plain and simple. Steroids enables that, its rather a matter of genetic potential. If you look back to the bodybuilders of the pre Arnold…

1500 cals, with 200 pro, 60 fat, 50 carbs. A 200lbs man would not lose much if any muscle mass.

Yes, I had mine done at a place here in Waco. It was on a Reevue machine. Also had to be fasted, and the test took 10 minutes of consistent breathing into a tube. 42yo male 6'2. It said my RMR was 2310 or so, hard to agree with it though.

A great article from Lyle McDonald that talks about the amount of muscle gains to expect per year from 1-5years with proper training. http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/muscle-gain/whats-my-genetic-muscular-potential.html/ 5 lbs is "probably" not all muscle, possible but not likely. Probably some water retention as well. As…

I think the terms "tone and tighten" in the context that youre using them is not really accurate. If you want more definition, then you need to reduce overall bodyfat. You cant really spot reduce. But some exercises for the arms are: For biceps- Dumbell curl Barbell curl Preacher curl For tricep- Tricep extension Skull…

In the end it really is just about calories in less than calories out CICO. And if your not accurately tracking everything, you have no way of truely knowing how much your consuming on a daily basis. Estimations dont usually work for the majority. If it did, then 60% of the population would not be obese.

Chocolate chip cookie dough quest bar FTW. Super delicious, 20g protein around 17 fiber and only around 5-7 net carbs. 190 cals

This.. I used it back in the 90s when it had ephedrine in it. Then it was banned as a supplement.... clean diet and cico is all you need

^^^ This My story is similar, if you have a significant amount of weight (fat) to lose then it can be done. It doesnt mean youre going to gain it all back, that is false dogma. I dropped 4-5lbs a week for 3 months, and as others have said it will level off. The body makes adaptations, and the reduced body size requires…

Indeed, it seems anything contradicting the "collective think" here on MFP is bashed.

Heres a nice article describing a few of the criteria involved in gaining muscle while losing fat. http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/fat_loss_muscle_gain_trick.htm

Right there with you, and its always the "same" culprits spreading misinformation based on nothing but opinion, and not fact based research..
-
And coffee enemas relates to the topic how? Not even a "nice try".
-
Just... No. http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/build-muscle-burn-fat-simultaneously.htm Yes you can build muscle and lose fat at the same time. Will you pack on a lot of muscle mass consistently in a deficit no, but gains can be made.
-
Thought so. A simple google search will give you countless websites itemizing the criteria that losing fat and gaining muscle or LBM can happen. If you wish to speculate about my results we can continue this convo elsewhere.

Nutritional periodization, cyclical dieting. It is "possible", which was the question. Is it likely the average joe will replicate "my" results? No, everyone is DIFFERENT, genetics, diet composition. Care to post any scientific studies stating its not possible? You cant
