  • I was initially thinking keto + tolerant...in not bashing keto'ers for their unconventional beliefs. Lol

  • I've lived off of cabbage, EVOO, & whole eggs as a broke college student nearing the end of the semester. Keep protein to a minimal for cutting expenses (also more traditional keto); whey concentrate could be a cheap alternative to use as well based on what type of vegetarian you define yourself as (lacto-, pesca-, ova-,…
  • You've got to research & remember the keto gems. Sometimes even make your own products because no one manufactures adequate products that are readily available in standard grocery markets...for instance, salad dressing without soy or canola oil, zero carb, and a desirable amount of sodium based on your daily intake (shelf…
  • Liberal media at it's best; thanks internet. The world was a much better place 25 years ago...facts mattered, you had to be a credible author/media source to have merit, merit mattered, no brainwashing the masses with completely contradictory "alternative" facts, & people had enough brains to think for themselves
  • Diet, consistency, compliance, & time
  • Diet-wise, going with the classic combo of egg whites + salsa (insanely low kcals), not worrying about sodium. Was previously doing micellar casein + WPI combo + low GI protein bars (I got sick of this fast, in terms of cost & not being very satiating/palatable). Other past combos I might use include: lean deli meat…
  • When I was doing IIFYM, I would use cardio (aerobic) kcals burnt to determine my carbohydrate allotment for the day (i.e. 400kcal worth of cardio = 100g carbohydrate for that day). Worked pretty well, but meticulous measuring was the real factor at play for the results. This is more of a "targeted" approach Main thing is…
  • Really? When does bench press require the use of a cage? Same for deadlifts. There's no consideration for those who want to do squats. The guy deadlifting should have just allowed him to work in (instead of "marking his territory")...well at least no one was doing bicep curls in a squat rack
  • Not many of us left who would rather have that feeling of self accomplishment rather than rely on artificial &/or instantaneous results
  • Yes, NSAIDs are counter productive for building muscle. Prostaglandin accumulation & chemotaxis to the site of the muscle (micro) tear is part of the rebuilding/hypertrophy process...as well as causing pain & soreness. Slows the process overall; worse if combined with corticosteroids (block even the initial steps in the…
  • Metformin is weight neutral but often results in overall weight loss from the initial appetite suppressing side effects of abdominal cramping, anorexia, etc. & utilizing insulin more efficiently (having to produce less for the same blood glucose lowering). Bias from causing weight loss can be that motivating factor for…
  • This is too hilarious, day 15 and he is still down 1.2 lbs from baseline. Defying physics and demonstrating that keto plateau quite well. Would be interested in knowing how his body composition has changed so far since weight can be misleading. This is a totally relatable mishap for people on keto long term...intending to…
  • FYI, if you started out on 1.2mg VICTOZA, your endo is jumping the gun in terms of titration scheme; 0.6mg/day = starting dose. Believe me, I have had patients who did not titrate up appropriately (forgot) and described feeling like being poisoned. Metformin 500mg/day is lower than the recommended starting dose, also…
  • Have tried the morning/midday eating; works ok but the major con is shoving too much food into the system early in the day causing lethargy, drowsiness, & bloating. I found it to be less productive for getting work done during the day. However, night time eating presents its problems with exacerbating GERD & cardiovascular…
  • Just remember to titrate the Liraglutide slowly (up 0.6mg/day every week), restart the titration process if missing greater than 3 days. The nausea/vomiting tolerance can take roughly 1 year to achieve unfortunately (or fortunately depending how you look at the drug's efficacy). If using VICTOZA for the SAXENDA indication,…
  • Agreed with Gallowmere1984. Insulin stimulation/secretion (more) is necessary for gaining size IF is also futile for bulking

  • Baseline 190grams protein/day to start before intervention of "high protein" intake. This is splitting hairs on what is considered high; both values are miles away from the minimum. Not surprising there are no significant changes
  • Omg, you've got to try L-arginine & agmatine in dry powder forms (nasty bitter)....comparison wise, they make caffeine anhydrous & green tea taste tolerable
  • Marmite (too much of a good thing, fine in moderation) Fat free cottage cheese is vile (however, full-fat tastes awesome) Cabernet sauvignon (highest resveretrol content) is waaay too strong Various Walden farm zero kcal dressings (just a bunch of sodium & thickening agents)
  • What I like about this guy is he is most likely not "enhanced"...5'7'' only 148.2 lbs, BMI only about 23 kg/m^2. I'm kind of surprised he keeps his protein reasonable for someone who is a bodybuilder/model. Refreshing to see the contrast from juiced/GH/Insulin-ed up "professional" bodybuilders who are more reminiscent of…
  • Green vegetables emulsified with fat...win-win, makes "health" food more palatable & easy to digest whilst achieving fat macro goal.
  • Beta-Hydroxy Butyric acid is the major ketone produced (about 80%); urine ketone test strips only detect Aceto-Acetic acid (Reference cited: Lexicomp online). Like others have posted, blood tests are more accurate
  • Your fat and protein ratios should be switched to be "textbook" keto; your #s are more reminiscent of "bodybuilder/athlete" keto. 27 net carbohydrates is fine
  • Kale + salsa, baked cabbage/brusselsprouts/or broccoli + evoo spray + salt, & German sauerkraut or red/Apple cabbage kraut Franken VLC food: whey protein sludge with only water (100-120kcals)
  • I'm jealous you have a trap bar because trap bars are perfect for hack squats (weight is centered in line with your body whereas barbell hack squats the weight is behind you slightly). Agreed with the other; trap bar lifts feel more quadricep dominant
  • Quest is by far the best tasting, but not without it's downsides: expense ($20/lb) & being a blend (whey & micellar protein makes it less versatile for a short lived purpose like immediately post workout but a better option as a meal replacement/night time protein). I personally don't like shakes but make protein powders…
  • Psyllium husk daily will help normalize GI Transit time; although it can interfere with absorption of other drugs/supplement/etc. The plain/non-flavored/non-sweetened version is literally zero net carbs, forms a nice mucocilliary paste that drags water with it down into your lower intestines for a nice regular BM…
  • Well the main benefit from protein restriction to myself would be lowering Insulin-like Growth Factor-1 (seen as dogma by bodybuilders...opposite of their goal). Yes, drastically lowering kcals is a must during "fat fasting". The whole myostatin inhibitor means as a drug has not quite panned out yet...despite bogus…
  • I'll second the peppermint oil (nice smell too, also the mint smell makes you feel more alert). Always carry around some mints/gum for dreaded keto breath...your own sense of smell will be dull to it but not others. I frequently do throw around pocket sprays/films of listerine too just in case
  • I'm interested whether anyone else has dabbled with only consuming protein every other day as a means to prevent insulin secretion...of course protein (EAAs) are necessary but thinking that consuming them every other day would stave off starvation/edema. Then there is the "pure protein" diet approach, consuming high…
