  • Wow, I need this! I have trouble falling asleep..... so I'm up all day wanting to eat and snack.... and then often half or all night, too! The more sleep time you get, or at least for me, is more time I'm NOT eating or tempted to it. If I'm not well rested, I'm feeling too tired to exercise or even move at all.
  • What type of surgery did you have? How long ago? What was it like the first few weeks post-op?
  • Hi. Are you still planning on the June surgery? What type are you having?
  • I am prepping for a duodenal switch and I appreciate the feedback you gave to the person that asked. It helps me feel better to learn and hear what others have gone through. I have a question..... when you are in the pureed stage, would it just be easier to buy baby food?
  • I appreciate this info. I'm still prepping for my DS and start the educational part on May 30.... unless they tell me my health makes me too high of a risk. How much fat grams will cause diarrhea? That has been one of my biggest fears. I hear too many carbs causes horrible gas.
  • Hello to both of you. Wow, the 31st is right around the corner. I meet with the bariatric clinic on May 30 to review my labs, have a physical, etc.... and I'm thinking maybe that is the date they will tell me whether I'm approved or not. My insurance has cleared me, but the clinic here is a tough sell, I here. They want to…
  • Hi. Try not to be discouraged! Remember this is more than for weight loss, it is for your health. What type of bariatric surgery are you planning. Some types usually rid your body of the diabetes type 2 almost immediately. I'm prepping for the duodenal switch because of my BMI more than 50 and my long term diabetes. I…
  • I hope to have my duodenal switch about the middle of June. My first day for my physical and education class is May 30. They said I had to use their brand of OptiSource vitamins at least for the first month and if I can find some cheaper elsewhere with the same dosages, I can do that. I will also have to add B12 1,000 mcg…
  • Hi Steven. I just discovered those shakes and they are really good tasting... and 30 gm of protein. I just wish they weren't so pricey.
  • I thought I read and heard that it is very difficult to gain any weight with a DS. So perhaps that is not really true?
  • Hi. I am prepping for the duodenal switch to have in June. I've really been worried about the possibility of diarrhea and the bad gas. Almost wonder if I'll be afraid to get together in social circles. The bariatric clinic told me they think I'm the first DS patient they've had. Guess I'm a guinea pig?
  • Wow. I appreciate reading all the varying degrees of thyroid problems. I was on the same dose for almost 40 years but then my doctor had to keep increasing my dosage. I'm now on 150 mcg. As I am prepping for bariatric surgery (June?) they did a thyroid check which was enlarged so I had an ultrasound. Totally enlarged on…
  • Question....For example: If you can only absorb 30 gm of protein at a time, but maybe only 50% of what you eat is absorbed....does that mean 60 gm of protein at a time is appropriate and what we should shoot for? I'm still in prep mode and trying to learn.
  • You need to get some nutritional counseling or you could seriously injure your health. Are you taking vitamins daily? Are you taking formal walks or doing some kind of exercise? Do a search on "Bariatric sleeve protein intake 6 months post op" and educate yourself by reading. Doing a search on Google can help you find a…
  • Hi msmarilee88 - Are you still hanging around? I got your email or private message note. The duodenal switch is the "strongest" and most risky of all the surgeries. They cut out a large part of the stomach plus either remove a good 3 foot of the small intestine or they loop it somehow. I need to look at the procedure…
  • I still prepping for my duodenal switch bariatric surgery. I'm on such a tight budget and am worried about the cost of vitamins. I figure anything with the name bariatric will cost 3 times as much. Hoping I can find some generic type vitamins that will be less costly. Any ideas?
  • Hi. I am 63 years old and have also been on and off numerous diets over the years. The most I ever lost was 125 pounds and I gained it back too. I'm now prepping for bariatric surgery. What kind of diet plan are you on? One thing I remember but din't realize at first was I could no longer stay on the same # of calories…
  • There's a Christian board and lots a exercise challenges going on. Just check out "message boards", I guess. But I still check in here and hoping others start finding their way back here again. Maybe they vanished because it got quiet here. Early June is what I'm hoping for, too! I'm in Indiana.... where are you?
  • Any one here from Fort Wayne, IN area? Very good info tomteboda. Maybe that's why they require some weight loss up front..... that some will get on a good roll and opt out of surgery. I've gained and lost and re-gained so much, I dread it. My diabetes BS readings get so out of control even when I'm eating right. So I'm…
  • Be careful with peanut butter as even the lowfat kind has more fat than I'd like....but I do sparingly use Jif lowfat. If you're eating poultry, take off the skin. Lots of fat usually under the skin and in the skin. I also buy Dannon Light & Fit Yogurt. I buy Wal-Marts Great Value brand of deli turkey and chicken....look…
  • This board doesn't seem to be very active. I think many bariatric people are posting elsewhere as their home board. Is that about right?
  • I am in the prep mode to have bariatric surgery. Maybe within the next month? If you have type 2 diabetes, make sure you choose one of the methods that may rid your diabetes right after the surgery or in a day or two. Not all of them have that capability. That's the #1 reason my doctor wants me to have it. The ensuing…
  • I am sorry you are missing your friend. I hope she pops in again soon. Do you happen to be a bowler? I'm head coach of a local high school team here. I personally coach the girls but am head coach over all our teams.
  • Years ago on another site I never logged online. It just took too much time for me and I felt it was a duplication of what I already had down on paper. I use a regular 8 1/2 x 11 wire bound tablet and write down and measure everything that goes into my mouth. I even measure my catsup and salad dressing. I also write down…
  • I'm a retired registered nurse. I doubt if sugary snacks are the best route. You'll need protein and maybe some crunchy snacks. If you're at work, you'll need to use good handwashing before any finger foods like a boiled egg, carrot pieces, celery sticks or pretzels. Also maybe those little beef and chicken broth packets.…
  • I watched a video where the doctor said if you eat too many carbs you will have more gas. He also said eating too many fats causes diarrhea. I made a special note of that because it sounded like something important to remember. I'm still prepping for my surgery so I've not walked in your shoes yet. I've been warned though…
  • Here on the computer while munching 2 celery sticks and watching Scandal on the TV that I recorded earlier.
  • Hi ladies. I am prepping for a duodenal switch. Still a month away probably. I lost 17 pounds as of this morning but only was required to lose 15. I'd be happy to be friends with both of you.
  • Are you weighing and measuring your portions and writing it down on paper? If not, you may be eating more than you think. I was told that by increasing your protein, you are more likely to lose fat rather than muscle. That will maybe help you lose faster and and help you feel better. Are you moving? Even walking will help…
