  • I think I googled using "calorie counting weight loss" or words to the similar effect. :)
  • I credit this website with helping my weight loss every time someone asks me about it. There are such great, simple tools here; they are so easy to use. I did upgrade to using a heart rate monitor for my exercise calories burned, (which most people recommend), but this is a great place to measure your progress, track…
  • I created an exercise for me marked "C25K HRM" which is the couch to 5k, which is interval training for the first 7 weeks. I just go by my heart rate monitor (HRM).
  • I'm kinda in a slump at the moment as far as motivation goes; I think it has to do with this darn plateau I'm on. But when I'm figuring out what I want to eat, I think about how many calories it is and how long it will take on the treadmill to burn it off. :)
  • I gained my first week too. I don't think it was muscle for me, but the fact that my body wasn't used to its calories being regulated, and having so many fewer of them than before, so it stored extra calories. Plus, the water weight/lactic acid might have played a part. Don't get discouraged! :)
  • FYI It seems like there is some misinformation of sorts in this thread. The heart valve problems of the 90s were related to the Phen-Fen combination, of which the Fenfluramine was diagnosed as creating the heart problems. Fenfluramine is no longer prescribed. Phentermine is. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fen-phen…
  • Thanks. I was really counting on y'all for some support. It just stinks. I was all jazzed and excited until I went to the fitness expo today. Then, WOW. I kinda felt it on their facebook page for the races, but to no avail. Now I'm kinda ticked that I'm wasting my 'virgin race' with people who don't appreciate it. Okay,…
  • My first is Saturday. I did a hard workout on Tuesday and am taking it easy the rest of the week (also because I tweaked my ankle somehow...not working out but otherwise).
  • The only thing I can think of is to decline the doughnut politely, and leave OFF the part about not being worth the calories. That makes people defensive about their eating the doughnut, and/or not exercising, especially if they are jealous. Now, if they ASK why not, go ahead and puff a little bit about your diet and…
  • I was like that. I did a 'sub-week', with 30 second intervals of running. We are not far off in size. I also talked to my doctor and she gave me an inhaler to use if I need it. I've never had asthma before, but I've also never been this overweight and exercised before. I don't get it on the elliptical or bike; only…
  • I'm the crazy lady singing to herself, occasionally with hand gestures. :) Maybe leave one earphone off, so you can hear if you are actually speaking out loud?
  • My son has Celiac and we had to remove gluten, which is in more than just wheat.....rye, barley, oats (kinda)...... Some people do it for other reasons and believe it helps some children with certain childhood diseases. A lot of people try to cut out white flour and processed wheat items though; the others are healthier, I…
  • Absolutely 100% not pregnant. :)
  • There is no way I'm pregnant! LOL Plus I mentioned just having the 'time of the month'. :) I think I'll bump it to 1400 for a week or so and see what happens. Of course, there are some days I struggle to get ENOUGH calories if I exercise too hard, but I always make sure I do. I have been changing things up lately...hmmmm,…
  • Oh I went back to when I first got my same HRM, and I weighed slightly less than you do now. HRM: 51:40minutes, 2.8 MPH, 396 calories, Average HR 80%, Maximum 86%, in zone 48:14 MFP: 51:40, 313 calories 3.0mph HRM said I burned 83 more calories. That's about 1.52 calories more per minute I believe. I generally hit my…
  • My HRM and what MFP said for calories burned were way different on some things, and very close on others. However, I have followed it since I got it; I did compare for a long time, and when I input my workout here, it automatically figures cals burned...but I always have to change it. I have been using my HRM for burned…
  • And there is good cholesterol and bad cholesterol......HDL and LDL...I don't have it in front of me, but just because something is high in cholesterol doesn't make it a bad thing necessarily. :)
  • Treadmill, walking.... lots of water!
  • Okay, whoa! Seriously? You mean I'm like only 22 pounds from being able to shop with some consistency in the Misses section?? And only 20 more to be in a 10? Rock ON!!!! I was actually giving this some thought this morning. Sizes have really changed over the past 25 years. I was 117 pounds in high school (1987) and wore a…
  • I can walk for an hour or more outside, but 30min inside pushes me to the boredom max, unless a VERY interesting show is on TV. If I'm at the gym, I mix it up with treadmill, bicycle, swimming, elliptical, and some days, weights. But if I do workout, I rarely do less than 45 minutes inside, and an hour outside.
  • MFP and other sites were overestimating on some things, and underestimating on others. I like it because it tells me where I'm at during my workout, and what my average HR was, plus exactly how long I've exercised. I like to tell myself that if I keep my HR over 135 or 140 the zombies can't get me! :) (can you tell I bored…
  • Thanks y'all. Yes, I was fitted at a professional running store for these shoes. Lacing--I don't to lace and re-lace shoes twice a day if I go walking too. My feet hurt ALL over the bottom; maybe my shoes aren't flexible enough. I'm a barefoot year round kind of girl and would walk everywhere barefoot if I could. I wish I…
  • I used to until I hit this darn plateau!! I was doing it at least twice a day at home, and once at the gym. I'm not losing at the moment, so I haven't been obsessive about it. But when I AM losing, I AM obsessive about it!!!
  • I'm sure I haven't 'worn' my shoes out. :) I've also tried tying them in different ways, but I hadn't changed the laces when my foot started hurting. Maybe insoles...but I have no idea what to look for or get. I think if I go back to the shoe store, they will just try to sell me new shoes! I drink plenty of water, so that…
  • Situations like this are a good reason to have a heart rate monitor. :) In the meantime, you could compare your 'exertion' level to a similar workout of running/jogging/aerobics/walking.....
  • I wish I had measured when I had started!! Good job!! :) Keep it up!
  • For me, Phentermine killed my appetite and I was able to stick to a diet when I took it and lost 20 pounds 5 years ago. I gained it back when my scrip ran out and she wouldn't re-up it. I tried it again, and within a week, probably coincidence, but I was in the ER by week's end with excessively high heart rate. It turns…
  • Even with weight and age, the machines might not read accurately. The elliptical and other machines at my gym read my Polar HRM, so they are close, but still not as accurate as the reading on my watch HRM.
  • Exactly. What one person burns in an hour versus another one does involve how much you weigh. For your skinny people, grab like 5 bags of 10 pounds of potatoes and see how fast you'd go then. ;) And you'd be burning more cals doing it ;).
  • From everything I've been told, you should go by the HRM. Sometimes MFP and other online calcs are over, under or just right (kinda like Goldilocks!). I think HRM is the most consistent. Does your HRM have a strap or just the watch? I think the ones with the strap are the best...and how are the batteries on it? How old is…
