  • I alternate running and kettlebell workouts. Running - I'm currently using a half-marathon training plan from Endomondo, and also use Zombies Run. For the kettlebells, I have a subscription to Lauren's Playground with Lauren Brooks.
  • Ken's Caesar, but it has lots of calories. Paul Newman Raspberry Walnut is also really good.
  • We've done both the breeder and rescue route. I understand your concerns about the size and shedding (and drool, don't forget drool) of a Newf. Ours is about 170 lb. and when he sheds it's like tumbleweeds. He's also very happy and friendly to people he knows. I don't know if he would be a good hiker though, he poops out…
  • Lots of kettlebell workouts here: https://www.onnit.com/academy/category/training/workouts/kettlebell-workouts/
  • Not doing Warrior Dash, but doing Madison Mud Run in a few weeks.
  • Hey - not to get too off-topic, but is that a Newf in your ticker pic?
  • No worries! I'm very lucky to be so close to a couple of great breweries. That oak aged stout sounds fabulous!! So ready for fall so that the Oktoberfests and darker beers take the place of all the summer beers. I was going to suggest a beer swap but just searched and saw that it is illegal to ship beer. Damn.
  • My my, New Glarus jealousy rears its ugly head - all caps no less. Excuse me - but my last post was Leinenkugel bragging.
  • Went to the Leinie Lodge yesterday. What a deal - they let you sample 5 beers and get you all happy so you buy goodies from the gift shop! Loved it! Having a Big Eddy's Wee Heavy Scotch Ale right now. MMMMMMMMMMMMM
  • I watched it last night, and was amazed at how unsupportive and disrespectful her family members were.
  • Love just about anything from New Glarus - and I'm lucky to live just a hop (or should that be hops? ;-) ) skip and a jump from New Glarus so I can find everything that they make nearby.
  • Got a sampler pack. New Glarus Back 40 Bock New Glarus Honey Bock New Glarus Coffee Stout The Coffee Stout is fabulous!!
  • I've got a Cuisinart stick blender that works great. I can make a smoothie in a quart canning jar and the cleanup of the stick part is so easy.
  • MMMMMMMM! Tonight it's New Glarus Winter Warmer "Indulge in our heady scotch ale. This "Winter Warmer" is a celebration of roasted toffee notes wrapped in rich tawny tones and toasty palate. Two months in the making insures an incredible silky finish." I think next week will be Huber Bock or Berghoff Dark.
  • You could look for recipes on eatingwell.com or other websites that focus on healthy eating. They will include the nutritional info along with the recipe.
  • I've gotten a 40 lb. and a 50 lb. from New York Barbell on ebay, and like them. The handle is definitely wide - which is one of the reasons why I got the first one. My husband was not able to fit both hands in the handle otherwise for 2 handed swings. I don't see it on the ebay listing, but it is most likely a TDS brand…
  • Whiskey's too rough Champagne costs too much And vodka puts my mouth in gear This little refrain Will help me explain As a matter of fact I like beer (I can't remember much more of the song, except for the "I like beer, it makes me a jolly good fellow" part.)
  • My daughter, who just turned 9, knows that to call someone fat may very well hurt their feelings. So, one day when we were out for a walk she said, "Mama, back when you were huge you didn't go for walks with us." Um, thanks dear.
  • This is why we have middle fingers. Do it for you and if others aren't supportive ignore them and keep going.
  • This link is for a video from Tracy Reifkind on how to choose the correct size kettlebell. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBVix24GKG0 She also has posted a lot of workouts on youtube, and her book "The Swing" is a great start for beginners.
  • A pound of muscle weighs exactly the same as a pound of fat. The pound of muscle is denser. The pound of fat is larger because it has more volume. A 12 oz. bag of Puffed Cheetos will be larger than a 12 oz. bag of crunchy Cheetos.
  • Absolutely! You mentioned that your husband can't cook. I'd say your husband can't cook YET and doesn't want to learn. But if you are willing to do all the shopping and cooking, then go for it. Find some new healthy recipes and cook up a storm!
  • I have some inexpensive ones from walmart made by CAP barbell. They are inexpensive for a reason. They get the job done, but they are not high quality and have a coating that chips off very easily. If the chips are on the handle it can have nasty effects on your hands. The largest bell I have is a 40 lb. made by TDS. It…
  • Add some cinnamon and ground nutmeg to your coffee grounds before you brew the coffee. Then add low fat milk to your cup.
  • Aint that the truth! My sister and BIL got some AWESOME beer the last time they were visiting. Tommyknocker or something like that. Dark, high alcohol content, and one or two is plenty.
  • Oh yeah!! For me, if it doesn't get done in the morning, it doesn't get done.
  • Usually the package will provide the number of calories per serving, and also the number or servings per package. Multiply those together to get the total calories per package and if you want to eat 1/2 the package, divide by 2.
  • Take a look at Tracy Reifkind's book "The Swing". It is a great resource for your new lifestyle. She was once overweight and transformed herself with diet and kettlebells. You can do so much with just one piece of equipment - strength and cardio with the same tool and perfect for a beginner.
