  • I’m 43 and hoping to only get better and stronger as I get older! It’s all uphill from now on ladies! ;) That being said, have any of you noticed any changes or challenges in recovery times and how you plan your workouts? Or something you are more mindful of? I most likely just need to plan refueling, rest, sleep etc.…
  • Hi! How are you enjoying the workouts so far? Are there any specific new things in the new book? I finished NROL4W and really enjoyed it, so I moved on to NROL Supercharged. It is more challenging but it allows you to essentially pick what you want for your exercises, from the push, pull, hinge, legs, etc menu. I also…
  • I'll send you a request! I'm looking to add more lifting friends to my list also. I finished NROL4W earlier this year and I am almost half-way through NROLSupercharged. Would love to talk shop with you ladies lol. I also run and do yoga. Feel free to add me :)
  • This thread has been quiet for a while.... but is anyone doing Supercharged? I finished NRoL4W about a month ago and just started Super+. Would love to know how everyone is doing with it and/or if you've finished it, how the program worked out for you! :)
  • ^^this is me too! I'd love more lifting friends.... anyone, feel free to add :)
  • I use those steppers too because it feels more stable than a weights bench, which is padded. Like you I was using 4 risers plus the step but increased it to 5 risers and it adds a bit more challenge:) (the book says, higher the step, harder it gets.) I wouldn't add too many risers though since it'll eventually get wobbly!…
  • @gatx - thanks very much!! and good luck on your training as well! I'm sure your body will tell you what is best:) and yes @jtm4210, best of luck too, & to all doing HM and other races this year!
  • awesome to see lifters & runners! I'm actually running my first HM this weekend & was doing the NROL4W program earlier in the year. I got to the end of Stage 3 and loved it! But even with cutting down to 2x/week, I found that my legs just couldn't recover well enough to run on the off days. I think Stage 1 is ok but as the…
  • just saw this now -- sounds like you got through & rocked the race! Congratulations!! :drinker:
  • I've certainly gone through the highs & lows of running too! The last time, I just couldn't run... no matter what. Turns out I was fighting an infection and got sick. But if you're feeling ok on other fronts, I wonder if it's just fatigue setting in and you just need a couple of days rest? Or some easy runs just to get…
  • thanks Mary! lucky you, would love a dedicated space/room for a home practice. rolling out my mat on the carpeted living room floor just is uninspiring to me lol. I should just get over it tho. I'd be curious to know what the twisted monkey pose is too!
  • It's true, home practice doesn't really seem to come to me, but I think it's a combination of environment, mental block & perhaps self-discipline lol. Would love to spend more time in the studio or try a group practice or an Ashtanga mysore led practice. For those that practice at home, do you guys carve out a particular…
  • hi cat! I'll send you a request:) I'm at the end of Stage 3 but I'm taking a break right now since I'm training for a half-marathon. But once the race is over, I hope to get back into it. I saw the download workouts on Jefit but couldn't figure it out lol. ps love to meet more lifters and fellow nrol4w'ers! feel free to…
  • That's fantastic!! Congratulations on going the distance... both physically & mentally!! :drinker:
in I did it! Comment by yogibella May 2014
  • I've been using Jefit too and I like it but it is a pain to load workouts for each stage. Thanks for sharing about Bodyspace.... I'll look into it:)
  • cool, I'll check it out Mary. I never really know what to do with all the props and use them to the best advantage. I also really like the blog name:)
  • hey Carl. just saw this now. there is a great chart you can use to follow the sequence, if that helps: http://www.ashtanga-yoga-victoria.com/support-files/AYVic-Primary-sm.pdf and of course, if you want to be inspired, see this amazing video, led by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois himself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUgtMaAZzW0 I…
  • yes! I usually enjoyed a bagel in the morning before my long runs or allowed for more of a 'carby' dinner the night before. Nothing too big but I was more mindful about fueling for it than any other run I did:)
  • I think the only thing that really bothers me is when people come in and they bring all their negative energy with them - like they complain about the music, teacher, etc..sigh really loudly when teachers make them do 'stuff' they don't like and then try to chat you up with all their other complaints about life... after…
  • I use those steppers that they usually have in step class -- stacking 4 steps and the top gives me a 90 degree angle, which I'm told is the desired height. I guess the weight bench would work too. I'm sure your gym would have them lying around somewhere?
  • I had a bloody toe once and I wasn't quite sure how or where it was coming from either! I think it was just extra friction from a long run. So I don't know much about losing toenails but I would just make sure to wear a thin but comfortable pair of tech socks for your race, maybe tie your shoe with a little more room in…
  • thanks for the share Mary:flowerforyou: will check it out!
  • @Mary - he lives in your town? lucky you! thanks for the link--the "short forms" DVD I think would be great for a home practice. (The full primary series takes roughly 90min to complete, if anyone is curious.) Yes, I agree, there are some seriously hard & advanced poses in the primary series and it'll take me years to get…
  • wow, congrats on your first 1/2 and your weight loss! that's fantastic!
  • I haven't tried a David Swenson tape yet but I used to take Ashtanga in a class setting (not many teachers around here unfortunately) and it can move pretty fast if you're not used to it, especially the opening sequence (Surya Namaskara A & B). But once you learn it, and learn to move with your breath, it gets much better.…
  • hehe that's a fun chart! I love Ashtanga but I don't think I'll ever get up at 4am lol. I thought the divide between hot yoga vs bikrams was pretty funny. thanks for the share:)
  • We spent some time up in Sechelt and along the Sunshine Coast last summer. We didn't do any canoeing but I'd like to go back and try kayaking up there. Saw a bunch while we were hiking along the water... looked so serene and the water & scenery was so beautiful! I think they launch quite a few kayaks out of Half Moon Bay,…
  • hey Lily:) I used to get big black bruises on the back of my arms too when I started doing crow. They were seriously ugly too lol:P But I don't get them anymore -- I think over time, the arms just toughened up. Also, if you try lifting with your core more -- like imagining tucking up your legs as close to you as possible,…
  • My likes & dislikes keep changing but off the top of my head, I'd say that I really like half-moon pose (hated it when I first started but fell in love with it), chaturanga dandasana (thank you Ashtanga!), pigeon (I could stay there all day), krounchasana (heron pose), pincha mayurasana & headstand when it works and I love…
  • My first 1/2 was supposed to be last June...yes WAS, because I got derailed by an injury 2 weeks before the race and had to pull out:( It was tough because I felt so ready! So I'm looking to do a fall 1/2, maybe in Oct like you or Nov and will have to get back into training mode soon. My longest runs during training was…
