I gained 5 lbs. Not sure if I should be proud, or feel like a fat *kitten* =) (back on track today however)

Lots of people say low reps/heavy weight. I'm guessing low reps is 8-10 reps, but how would you figure out if the weight your lifting is heavy enough? How do you find the right weight without going to low or hurting yourself?

If you and your date become more serious, that person may be suprised that you don't eat that way everyday.

Just wanted to leave this here. http://medicalxpress.com/news/2013-04-south-fattest.html

Counting calories used to be a huge pain before smartphones and scanners. It's pretty easy IMO with current technology.
I am not weighing my food. But, I try imagining how much would fit in one cup and go accordingly. There may be a margin of error in my tracking, but it is not that large (maybe by .5 or less). How do you suggest I track my portion sizes more correctly? Also, what do you mean by "you don't track all of your…

Don't sweat it! =) Bad joke I know but just do what your doing 1-2lbs/wk sounds good and drink your water.

I think most people are not really food obsessed or really have OCD, etc. A person is diagnosed with a mental disorder when, whatever it is they are doing is interfering in their ability to function on a daily basis. Is counting calories stopping you from caring for your personal needs, holding down a job, paying the…

Exercise is good for kids. Pushing yourself too hard is bad for everybody, including kids. The only problem I would have is if the gym teacher popped in the DVD and took a nap when the kids exercised. http://www.childrenscolorado.org/wellness/info/teens/20486.aspx

The very low calorie diets fail because the human body is a pretty sophisticated machine that will adapt. It will regulate hormone levels to slow down your metabolism, decrease your lean body mass (less muscle = slower metabolism), and your body goes into a state where storing fat becomes easier. Many people advocate for a…

I'd like to add that you will stay at the lower weight only if you maintain the lifestyle that got you there. Did you binge eat when you lost the weight? Also, you may want to explore seeing a therapist about why you binge eat to address the underlying reason because simply stopping is very difficult long-term without…

The scale isn't budging for me much lately but my pants are looser, arms a little bigger (very little), and I feel more nimble. Plus my blood work is just awesome. So there is more than one way to measure success.

I don't understand why people think whole foods is expensive and I especially don't understand why some people refer to processed foods as "food."

I strongly suggest you go see an orthopedic doctor to determine what the best course of action is. Your issue will only get worse and ignoring it will not help (sounds like osteoarthritis). My wife had a similar issue and her orthopedic doctor gave her injections in her knees that helped lubricate the joints. After she…
But if TDEE already accounts for all else, and if you choose to calculate TDEE at sedentary, then you should eat back the net calories burned right?
If you calculate TDEE at sedentary and then workout, that number is not your true TDEE. You would have to account for that calorie burn to maintain the -20%…

Problem is just weighing yourself doesn't tell the whole story of your progress. Are your clothes getting looser? Is your waist measurements getting smaller? Are you feeling stronger? etc.

I have also seen people driving $50K plus vehicles that have high octane gas in the tank no doubt, waiting in line to buy fast food, which IMO the cheapest fuel you could use for your body, you know, the machine you are tied to for life. That boggles my mind.

So long as somebody is cooking then your ok. Most people today seem to just pick up some fast-food after work and feed that to their families almost every night. Obviously thats a big problem in society today. As for me, my wife and I both cook, but she likes to take charge in the kitchen more often than not, and I'm fine…

You remind me of me when I was in my early 20's. My GF and I broke up and I was over 100lbs overweight. Just remember that diet and exercise will help you lose weight but a change in lifestyle will keep it off. I sent a friend request to you and welcome anybody else to friend me also. The support here is pretty awesome to…

I don't think taking guns out of the hands of responsible people is the answer, but clearly those with mental problems like Adam Lanza need to be kept away from guns. There is no real good answer for what needs to be done simply because nomatter what heppens, those sweet/innocent kids will never come back, and the…

I was told that genetics was the "gun" and the environment was the "trigger" but I don't think genetics is an excuse to be obese. The bottom line is if you eat food in excess, like I did in order to comfort myself, you will gain weight no matter what your genetics say. On the flip side, if you eat adequately for your body…

 My wife and I make our own ginger dressing to add to the broccoli slaw but I'm liking all the good ideas on this thread! Thanks everybody!

Hard to argue this one =)

My opinion is it makes sense b/c smokers cost a company more in medical bills. I'm no doctor but I read that smokers will get sick easier than non-smokers, have a higher risk of developing cancers, heart disease (even if blood pressure is not high), and other diease that simply makes a smoker more expensive than an…

I may have lost weight, but if I did that I may just break the glass in the copier and cut my booty-hole to shreds...

I'm actually considering getting certified in something as a side-gig but my primary job is an attorney.

Very cool, and congrats on your accomplishment, and job!

I see the point but what if the person lost, say 100 lbs, and kept it off for 5 years. How about 10? 20?

LoL at turkey trot, but good point!
