  • Five years ago I was extremely obese and probably would have stayed that way if I had not tried a low carb diet. Before low carb I tried calorie restricting, weight watchers etc but was not able to stick to anything long term. I read this interesting book and thought I would try it for two weeks before my birthday and lost…
  • I was a big child and people never let me forget it. I grew up believing I would always be that way and never made too much of an effort to change. I would have the odd month or so when I got enthusiastic about losing weight and then I lost the motivation. It's a shame because I wasted my early 20's being miserable and…
  • I go through different phases. A few months ago I was eating cereal everyday. Now I'm back to Toast and Coffee or Crumpet and Coffee.
  • When I am full but I just want to keep eating. I have days where I go over my calories but they feel different to me. When I am binging I am aware that I don't need any more food but I just feel like I want something more and no longer care about how many extra calories I am consuming.
  • Same for me. I didn't gain the weight back and the diet worked for me at the time. These days I occasionally do it for a weekend or odd day when I feel like Im getting back into bad habits (eg too much chocolate/too many bread slices). I find when I go back to eating normal, I tend to make better choices and not want to…
  • I was exactly the same and I only lost serious weight when I turned 27. For most of my teens/twenties, losing weight felt so difficult and I only wish I knew what I know now. I wasted a lot of my 20's trying to lose weight and failing miserably. The good thing is that you have time on your side. I wish I had discovered MFP…
  • My family had left a Milk Digestive Biscuit pack on the kitchen table and I managed to fit a few biscuits into my allowance. They are not my favourite biscuits and sometimes I can take or leave them but today I wanted something with chocolate. I found it hard to stop at one and although I didn't go over my allowance, I…
  • I would suggest reading Paul Mckenna's Gastric Band. There is a hypnotic CD which makes you believe you have a band fitted. It may or may not work for you but may be a good place to start if you are wondering about the gastric band.
  • I usually make a 300 calorie pizza using a flatbread, puree and cheese so this fits into my plan. Or there are low carorie tortillas as well,
  • I am going through the same thing, And I am so confused on the chocolate factor. Sometimes I think it is fine to have a little chocolate everyday as long as it fits into my calories. But other times I feel that I am better off avoiding altogether as this brings on other cravings. I am constantly struggling to figure out…
  • Nobody except for close family should be giving advice unless the person has specifically asked for help. I have someone I work with and I know she thinks I am overweight (she should have seen me when I obese) and tries to make comments eg 'This is why you are overweight' or 'You need to get some exercise'. She doesn't…
  • Did it a few years ago before propoints, I was successful at the time and got to my lowest adult weight. I can't remember exactly but I must have lost about a stone (14 pounds) in total. I liked the fact it was easy once I had all the literature and I knew my points. I started to go downhill around xmas which seems to be a…
  • Yeah I noticed this when I lose some serious weight a few years ago. Mine was on my thighs andI still get these occasionally.

  • I would never have weight loss surgery. It may take me years to lose the weight but I know I will do it one day. My personal view is that this should be done as a last resort. Each to their own though.
  • It's easy to lose the weight initially but difficult to keep it off long term. The only real success I have had was on a low carb diet where I kept a lot of the weight off during the last few years. If someone has been dieting over a long period of time, it is easy to lose motivation when you don't see fast results.
  • I have not weighed myself in a few weeks but I could tell I was losing weight from the feel of my clothes. I haven't been particularly hungry either. Yesterday I had my period and was feeling fluish so I was eating all the time. I might have gone 100/200 calories over my allowance (as I was eating out it was hard to tell)…
  • This is interesting. I am now watching 'BBC - How to be Slim'.
  • I never buy from the vending machines mostly because most of the snacks are cheaper in store. My office temptations comes from people bringing in food for their birthday!
  • I knew I had to do something because I was approaching my birthday and felt miserable about how I looked in clothes. I picked up a book called 'The Idiot proof diet' which was low carb and thought 'I'll try it for a week or two' as my birthday was in one month. Once I lost 10 pounds in two weeks, I suddenly saw how my body…
  • I have the opposite problem. I seem to eat better when I am at work or eating out. However on the weekened I just crave bread all the time :(
  • I went through this for years when I was obese. I would dress up at parties and think I look great and then later look at photos and cry because of my double chin or stomach sticking out.
  • Yes I am so good monday - friday but the weekend seems to ruin it. I don't know why this is such a problem. When I started, I was doing well on the weekends but since december/january I feel out of control. I am now back to the weight I was in october so I feel like I have just wasted all these time. I need to get back on…
  • I used to be Obese (now overweight) and the shocking thing is that you never really see yourself as obese. I was a young 20 something who was surprising quite fit despite carrying all the weight around. I told myself that I can run up the station stairs and I don't get breathless at work so I must be okay. When I looked in…
  • Because all my life I was always told I was a greedy child and needed to stop eating. I never considered that it was what I was eating.
  • This was me. People would always be surprised that I was so overweight when a lot of times I didn't eat as much as them. It used to amaze me when I went to lunch with Skinny friends and they would eat 2/3 times the amount I did and not even stress over their weight.
  • A few years ago, I had people thinking/saying the same thing about me when I tried a low carb diet. Now, people who haven't seen me in three years ask me how I lost all the weight. I usually don't tell them the entire truth because unless you have followed it or are following, it is difficult to understand how the diet can…
  • If you have been obese/overweight most of your life you can't image yourself looking thin. You start to wonder if you really do it and then before you know it the sabotage begins. When I tried a low carb diet three years ago I was obese and lucky not to have any health issues. At the time, I had failed at every single diet…
  • Initially four pounds as I got to my first goal in November but gained four pounds over christmas. I would probably have lost it by now but I started getting into bad patterns of not logging properly and going over. This week, I am back on track. 2nd Goal = 14 pounds 3rd Goal = Another 14 pounds After my third goal, I will…
  • The neck is one of the area I wasn't expecting to see a difference. But my family and I have noticed that my neck looks more bony now.
  • Yes! I used to be about 36 pounds+ heavier and snored every night very heavily. I don't think I snore anymore. Maybe I do but it's too light anyone to notice.
