  • 'Buddha Bowls' - combinations of beans, greens, and grains - can be delicious, and you can throw some mushrooms in there too. I love the combination of lentils and rice (like mujadera) along with a salad or some sauteed greens. Very filling and healthy.
  • For the record, I have been doing this consistently for years and it works for me, keeping me within my goal weight range (although not always on the low end of that range!)
  • I do keep track of my daily exercise on MFP though.
  • I only log on light days. On other days I try to make sure I am eating lots of plant-based whole foods and I sometimes use Dr. Greger's Daily Dozen checklist for that.
  • Congratulations Meghan and Katie - great progress! I only visit the message boards sporadically but have been doing this for a couple years with success. Like FlossyRuby, I am in a bit of a slump but I know when I follow the recommendations this way of eating (plus exercise) works. I have been practicing meditation also…
  • I will! https://www.theguardian.com/society/2017/feb/23/five-day-10-portions-fruit-veg-cut-early-death Soups, salads, roasted vegetables, stir fries, and out of hand . . .
  • A quick check-in with my first fast of the week nearly complete.
  • Make that 850 cal - I forgot to account for the walnuts in the salad . . .
  • Great photo, great quote, not so great of a start for me with a 'fast' of 800 cal today and a bruised foot that is restricting my activity. I'm not worried though, even if I am having guests and lots of people around for the rest of the week which will make it hard to get another fast in. I know I am going back to it fully…
  • My fast yesterday looks to be the only one this week. I enjoyed reading everyone's stories on here about how the holidays are going. Dinner out tonight with my sister and party at a friend's tomorrow. My exercising has been minimal. I have been reading lots of library books including a bunch of cookbooks. I made a vegan…
  • Monday and Thursday fasts completed this week. Typical exercise routines followed. Weight and size are stable and in a good place. Restaurant lunch today and party tonight. Work holiday starts today and continues until January 9. Not sure how the break will affect my eating and exercising but I don't intent to stress about…
  • Glad the scale is moving in the direction you want Meg - congratulations! Like you Flossy, I don't believe I can ever quit this way of eating. Lucky for me, I enjoy it since it helps with focusing on the good stuff in life. Regarding food on fast days, I use the same motto as Mama, "Tomorrow, I'll have it tomorrow!"
  • Two fasts in last week and mostly through today's. Leftover veggie soup for dinner. Great job everyone. I'm trying to fill up on whole foods so I am not as tempted by the holiday treats but one of my kids requested a specific cookie so I want to make those. Flumi, I am so impressed that you were biking in conditions where…
  • Wow - congratulations!
  • My doctor has been very happy with my weight loss and blood panel results. He asked what I am doing and I told him I follow a plant based diet and engage in twice weekly 'fasts.' He is of Indian heritage and is a vegetarian who also occasionally fasts so he was super supportive of this approach. I have been in my healthy…
  • Please share what habits you formed or changed to achieve such a great success, and great job!
  • I come in over 500 more often than not and probably average just under 600.
  • I neglected to mention that my morning strength or Tabata routines are helpful in processing stress and anger. I usually do my morning push-ups in a pissed off mood about something, or I use my imagination while on my exercise bike that I am outrunning the real dangers that impact so many people on our planet. This morning…
  • I think my Why is because I do feel better after a fasting day or after exercise. Not just physically better, I feel satisfied that I did a good thing. It is so easy for me to overindulge. I overindulge in online time, I overindulge in eating, I overindulge in spending. When I overindulge, I feel bad but not bad enough to…
  • Another lifer here. I have been doing this for a few years. I have stabilized at a good weight and -like Flumi - ideal blood work but continue to 'fast' twice weekly to maintain at about 140lbs at 5'5''. I eat mostly plant-based and do a minimum exercise routine at least five days a week. Prior to this approach I would…
  • Ha Ha Mama! Yes, only a half fun-size candy on the day of Halloween, probably 10 or so per day in between my fast days . . . :( But like you, it will soon be behind me. None today and my fast came in at 551. Yay for exercise and fasting, and also celebrating with friends and family. I really love not gorging myself every…
  • Agree Flumi, the social eating is fun and makes the fasting days worth it! Luckily most of my friends also love healthy food but we aren't always great at monitoring the quantities . . .
  • 610 cal fast including 1/2 a fun size candy bar my son didn't want. Not too bad for Halloween. 20 push-ups and one 20 second plank plus 10 squats and 5 lunges on each leg. Stay strong, fasting friends!
  • Yes to planks and regulation push-ups! Squats and lunges too. 663 cal 'fast' for me today. My favorite tortillas were out of stock and I substituted with higher-calorie ones that put me over my limit . . .
  • Fast day for me today. On Saturday, my husband and I went on a Volksmarch in our town. It was a walking event with the choice of a 5km or 10km distance. We were having a lovely time on a beautiful day so we went for the 10km. Some people have done these walking events all over the country and even the world. It was fun to…
  • Two fasts this week completed. Big Italian feast with friends planned for Saturday. Rain starts tomorrow. Flossy, have a wonderful time in Hawaii! We went this summer and it was delightful. Mama, I'm with you on the polar opposite family dinner preferences! I recently made the declaration that I would be making my…
  • Flossyruby, I love the combination of beans and whole grains to stay full. My current favorite is a whole wheat tortilla stuffed with pinto beans, salsa, avocado and lots of greens, but this is not super low calorie - one of these is just over 500 cal on its own! I also love 'ocean' (mock tuna) salad made with garbanzo…
  • I don't fast on vacations and it doesn't seem to have a negative impact. I do jump back on it as soon as I get home. I have a problem not overeating on many non-fast days so that can be an issue, but it helps if I try to stick with healthy satisfying options with small treats included plus drinking lots of water.…
  • Thank you for the supportive comments Flossyruby! The ranger said people tend to think Yosemite is like Disneyland - and it is beautiful and welcoming in a similar way - but is a real challenge. Like you, I've had a decent fast day now and hope to have another on Thursday.
  • Almost made it to the summit of Yosemite's Half Dome yesterday. Was near the top of the subdome when I had to turn back due to nausea. I had just prepped for the last challenging section of the hike by eating some peanut butter pretzels and drinking some flavored electrolyte tablets dissolved in water. Some of my hiking…
