I'm sorry for all you went through. I too went through a broken off engagement but instead of alcohol (although I had plenty of that) I turned to binge eating. It just exasperated problems that were already there and I'm still dealing with it.

It's definitely hard but worth it to put in the work. Food is really good and when you are lazy with how you approach food, the results end up all over your body. But if you can fix that, I think losing weight is easier than people think.

Will power is tough but when I have been able to be successful with this it is always like when I give myself a purpose. Avoiding times to sit in front of the tv or if I am sitting and watching something, doing something while I watch so I do not think about snacking or having a beer or whatever.

Unhealthy foods and tv time are like the story of my life

Not a lady and not overly tall but 6'2 and over 300, I find it good and interesting to see people who are tall discuss the different sort of challenges we face, its not necessarily about weight on our frames, we look at different stats.

Not a swimmer but former athlete (football, basketball, track) and I totally understand binge eating and drinking. Feel free to add, I have over 100lbs to lose.

You got this! I am a teacher too and that is rewarding but tough to be healthy with. Starting over is still starting and you can only get to where you want by doing that first.
