  • I've always used the Sawyer PointOne Squeeze Water system. Long and short trips and I've never had a problem, even in the murkiest of water. You can use the bag or even attach the filter to a water bottle. It easy and light. Sometimes the bags might be a little difficult to fill if you're using standing water though. And…
  • In simple terms diet/nutrition is for weight loss, exercise is for fitness (cardiovascular health, physique, definition). So, technically you don’t have to do any exercise if weight loss is really the only thing you’re concerned with. You just have to do what works for you and what you can stick with. I recommend exercise…
  • Yes I know that area, I grew up in a little itty bitty town called Westwood (West of Susanville, North of Taylorsville). It is beautiful, I was so lucky to have grown up there.
  • I experienced the same "squishy" too. It was almost like the fat had turned to liquid and I was all waterbed jiggly. and I DO lift heavy weights, it's all I did for two years and it helps. Anyway, the more fat I lose the less squishy I am :-) Keep at it
  • I grew up in Lassen County, which lake and where did you hike? :-)
  • I just started the C25K and I like it. Because the running intervals are pretty short in the beginning I couldn't do it on a treadmill, adjusting the speed so often was very clumsy. But you might be able to do it.
  • Oats, chia seeds, flaxseed, or liquid egg whites works for me.
  • And yet you don't have a problem calling someone who's bones may protrude out more than others as gross.
  • Then why prolong the inevitable? Regardless of "stuff" and email reading it doesn't sound like a healthy relationship. The "first three years were rocky" statement is scary.
  • If I don't plan ahead I'd always go over. You just really have to try and find the time to plan, it makes a world of difference.
  • If it's a fear thing you can start off with body weight box squats. Touch your butt to the box and back up, you have comfort knowing you won't fall on the ground. As for balance, yes, the more strength training you do the better your balance will become. I was HORRIBLY clumsy and uncoordinated, I couldn't even do a BW…
  • So I went to a Sports Physician about my Tennis Elbow (which turned out to be both Tennis and Golf elbow, geez) and we talked about Shin Splints. Luckily I don't have them :-) But the advice was pretty much the same as you guys have given me here :-) With one exception, she said to ice my shins everyday. Tennisgirl, I have…
  • Interesting!! I know I thought something was wrong with me when my feet would always go numb on the Eliptical machine, it turned out to be my laces too tight :-) So I guess you just never know!
  • I wish I had done this when I was younger :-) Good luck!!
  • Pedialyte and then I eat something salty.
  • I'm glad I read this, I was starting to think there was something wrong with me lol I actually bench 10lbs more than I squat and OHP the same as I squat, but deadlift more than all of them. I can squat more if I only go parallel but I'm trying to get lower so I have to do less weight, I kind suck at squats lol
  • My pain doesn't sound as bad as that, but my goal is to not get that bad :-) I have to see a sports physician about my obnoxious tennis elbow so I'll ask her about shin splints as well. By Bergen did you mean backpack? I hope so because I don't think I can fit a city on my back :-) Anyway, core strength is a concern that I…
  • How do you feel? Are you overly tired, lethargic, weak? Do you need to eat more? I ask because I was also on a doctor ordered 1200 diet and did not eat back my exercise calories unless I wasn't feeling well. Then I'd just average my calories out for the week. I ate perfectly healthy on 1200 but if I ever felt week or extra…
  • I saw this infomercial for 21 day fix (ok stop laughing) most of it I ignored but in her food plan she has these little different sized and colored containers used to track your food. Like the small blue one for fats, bigger green one for protein, etc. You just fill them up and when you're done eating them all you're done.…
  • I use a heart rate monitor to track my calories and then I just input them into MFP. I like toys so I also have a Fitbit :-) They are not 100% accurate but give me a good estimate.
  • Also make sure you look at the comfort rating vs survival rating. A bag might have a -10 degree survival rating but trust me you won't be all that comfortable! There is so much out there it's hard to recommend something, I just wouldn't recommend a synthetic bag (ever) if warmth is what you need. REI has always been a…
  • Easy, my clothing covers up my stomach (spandex works well to hold it all tight).
  • Ha! I noticed the same saggy knee skin doing planks just the other day ( I don't dare look at my stomach when I do planks). You can't see it when I'm standing up though so I never noticed I had it. Sorry to say, some of it's an age thing :-( There is always the option of building muscle to try and "fill in" the areas, but…
  • How do you share and distribute confidential information?
  • Yes, exactly. That has been my experience as well. Keeping the weight off (especially as I get older) is much easier when I exercise. I started off with 30 minutes 3 days a week and just kept working my way up from there, I didn't want to get burned out too fast. I also learned to exercise efficiently rather than…
