  • Vitamins can't be BAD for you, unless taken in excess. If you're on a weight loss plan (eating deficit calories), you may over time develop some vitamins/mineral deficientie...this is where vitamins help. If you're not trying to lose weight and you're just maintaining and you eat reasonable balanced, you can probably go…

  • CONGRATS! I'm sooo envious!! You did amazing - Stayed within the recommended weight gain and came out with a baby on time...!!! :) Enjoy your time with your new little one! Cherish every moment, because they don't stay small forever ;)
  • How did they miss that on the ultrasound?!
  • Yes, not sure why (I think it was purely due to hormonal changes and thus water retention), but my weight was jumping like crazy in the first half of my pregnancy.

  • You are doing great! Just a few more weeks to go :)
  • My weight bounced around A LOT between 18-22 weeks. I went from +14lbs at 18 weeks, to +20lbs at 20 weeks, back to +17lbs by 22 weeks. I probably had some water retention?! I'm now 35 weeks and about +25-26lbs

  • I wold agree with you that a BMI of slightly below overweight (not underweight..oops) is probably the "best look" for a man of average build. There have been lots of studies on BMI and attractiveness (check out Martin Tovee's stuff....but it relates mostly to women). The ideal BMI "look" for an "average" man is 24, for…
  • Stop comparing yourself to the rest of society. Remember, 60% of adults are overweight or obese..and just because your friend told you she has a "healthy" BMI, doesn't mean that she is being truthful... and your waist might be smaller than 30, but what about your hips, and elsewhere? Are you carrying too much weight…
  • True, but then overweight doesn't mean unhealthy neither. Just because you are over or underweight doesn't mean that you are sick, it just means that the risks are higher, and that you have a higher chance of becoming "unhealthy". It still leaves you being overweight or underweight...or obese. You could be obese and not…
  • They have, its called a DEXA scan, which measures your body fat %, but you need some expensive gear to measure that accurately. So BMI still ends up being affordable/reliable....and given that its still used nearly 200 years later, proves that it is quite more accurate than some believe.
  • I'm going to put my 2 cents here. People are so blinded by our society, where 60%+ adult population is considered overweight or obese that they think that the overweight look is the "healthy" look. What are you, blind? Why is it that someone with a BMI of 21 is considered "too skinny"? BMI is accurate for 95%+ of the…
  • Super informative link! Thanks!
  • Drink prune juice!! If you get really desperate, metamucil is also safe to take. I was super constipated in the first trimester and would go 5-7 days without a bowel movement. I'm still constipated in my 3rd trimester now (but not as bad) and only go about once every 3-4 days.
  • Way to go! Sounds like a success story so far!! I'm soo envious... he looks ADORABLE! :)

  • I'll agree with everyone and say that its water weight. Unless you are some 21 500 + (that's a lot of Big Macs) calories in the past 48 hours, its pretty unlikely that you truly gained 5 pounds ;)
