  • The struggle is absolutely real but I agree with "cwolfman12". It's life and it's okay to live it. What are your goals. If your goals are to have a better lifestyle and live better than you have to actually do that...."live". Sometimes that includes indulging. If your goal is do drop weight quick, then you'll have to be…
  • Strength training (aka weight lifting). That's the key to restructuring the body. Sometimes that can be intimidating, though. Especially if you are not sure what/how to do it. Try searching on you tube for full body strength or HIIT routines (try fitness blender, bob harper, jillian micheals). Switch out 2-3 of your 10k…
  • Ha ha ha...don't be ashamed. I "drown" things all the time. Have you ever seen that Seinfeld episode where George eats a donut out of the trash. You are not the only one that has to absolutely ruin something in order to not be tempted by it.
  • Ha ha ha! The battle is really won or lost in the store. If you can get out of the store with nothing crapworty in your cart you are on the right track. Take it one trip at a time. That's what I do. Sometimes I win...sometimes I don't. We just gotta pick ourselves back up and keep trying, right? Good job and good luck…
  • I'm 34 years old and stand at 5'8''. I've had 5 kids so I've been up and down the scale a LOT. :) This last "go around": SW (delivery-Nov 2013): 203 lbs "Real" SW (7 weeks after birth-Jan 2014): 178 lbs SW (got REALLY serious--logging and actually trying-Sept 2014): 173 lbs GW (reached Dec 2014): 150 lbs Current weight:…
  • Weight lifting in a GREAT way to help your body burn extra calories. The more lean muscle you have, the more calories your body burns at resting. While weight lifting alone doesn't burn a lot of calories (unless done in an interval type setting where you are intermixing it with cardio and keeping your heart rate up), it is…
  • One thing that really helps me is to "own it". When I find myself running to food, if I just stop and identify what is really going on, it helps. Say it out loud. Example: "Okay. I'm not hungry, I'm ............". Owning it is the first step to overcoming it. That doesn't mean to say that you can't ever eat anything when…
  • It WAS really interesting veganbettie. I totally agree.
  • What kind of exercise are you interested in?
  • That is an excellent and achievable goal. The truth is, FINDING time is going to be hard. Here's the key. You don't find it (because you never will), you have to MAKE IT! I'm a mama of 5. I don't have time for myself but, because it is so important to me, I make it. I make time to exercise, I make time to log my calories,…
  • You could try adding an extra 10-20 minutes of cardio to really burn away the calories and fat. You still want to keep in the strength training for overall fitness, a toned body, and lean muscle (which will burn more calories at resting). You could also focus on more HIIT training, for overall body toning WHILE keeping the…
  • Good for you. Remember that it will take time. Keep your motivation going. Favorite quote, "The journey is long but quitting wont get you there any faster." You will have to find ways to fill those emotions you have been trying to bury. First step comes in identifying them. When you have a desire to eat (other than at meal…
  • CW: 156 Easter Goal: to be maintaining at 150 (which means I need to lose down to 145 and then go on "maintenance" calorie intake.) Ultimate Goal: Maintain at 150 What I'm doing is logging daily caloric intake and staying within my limits and exercising 6 days a week (running, interval training, lifting, elliptical,…
  • Another note, #3 out of 5 babies was very touchy. If I lifted weights too much (resulting in a lot of lactic acid build up (aka really sore muscles)) he would reject my milk. It's almost as if the acid in my body changed the taste and he didn't like it. Also, with #4, I was unable to do ANY type of chest exercises (push…
  • Why yes...I do have experience....a LOT of experience breastfeeding and losing weight (5x's). Others have said not to worry about losing weight while you are breastfeeding. I agree and disagree. First of all, we all want to look good and feel good again after having a baby. That's only natural. Just as when we were…
  • Way to bank on all that hard work and sacrifice. Keep it up!
  • I'm a busy mom with 5 kids. There is NO TIME in my day, literally. But....I MAKE TIME because its important to me. Most days I do 60-90 minutes of exercise. I focus more on High Intensity Interval (HIIT) routines because I can incorporate GREAT cardio work and strength while keeping my heart rate way up and burning all…
  • We all do it. Especially in this kind of weather. It's only natural to want to "hibernate". :) Like the others have said before me....just do you best to move forward. Make yourself do what you know needs to be done. Especially the exercise. When I am unmotivated I make myself put on my shoes and tell myself to just get…
  • Warm apple pie a la mode. Nothing beats it. Oh my....so tasty. Oh...and pumpkin pie with real whipping cream. Oh....and..... ;)
  • This has happened to me several times. I have 5 kids. Each time I get pregnant, I gain weight, of course, (with some kids a lot more than others) and each time I have committed myself to getting back to my goal weight (the weight I was when I got married). Coming from a family rampant with obesity (6 out of 9 of my…
  • The only way to stop...just stop. There's no secret or trick. Every chip you put in your mouth is a choice you're making to eat it. I told my doctor "I can't stop smoking...I just can't". Know what she said? "Of course you can. Just stop". So I did. You can too. Just stop. [/quote] You are right that it is a choice.…
  • I'm 5'8'' with a medium build. When I am at my goal weight of 150lbs (6lbs to go) and am fit (aka lifting weights (aka lean muscle)) and am exercising 4-5 hours a week, I can maintain at around 2000 a day. Of course, that takes into account that I am moving almost all day long (I have 5 kids, 4 of which are boys) as well.
  • Wow....I find your perseverance inspiring. Life is full of ups and downs, right? It's those who don't give up that are the winners in the end. The plus side too is that you look awesome!
  • Your determination has definitely payed off. Way to go on sticking to it! Awesome Job!
  • ha ha ha...I didn't know you could change user name. Now I can be MelanieMamaof5! YEAY for accuracy!
  • My name is Melanie and at the time I was a Mama of 4 crazy boys. Now I have been blessed with a sweet baby girl (who is about to turn one), so technically I should be MelanieMamaof5. :)
  • I am the youngest child in a large family. And I mean large in both numbers and size. I love my siblings dearly and worry about them too. We have a family history of high cholesterol, diabetes, heart disease, etc and I fear for their lives sometimes. The thing is, they are not dumb, sometimes in denial, but not dumb. They…
  • I try not to eat late at night...or ever too far after dinner. Mostly because by then I have exhausted all my calories for the day. Also, I find that my food choices at that time of day are not very good. That being said, every body/person is so different. If you can do it and lose...great. If not, then re-evaluate.
