  • OK, late to the party... But right now I am just hoping to PR in the 5k I have on November 1. Current PR is 27:12 from May of this year where I somehow ended up winning first place in my age group (because apparently the other 30-34 year olds in my town all had a bad day, lol). I have a list of other goals, but will save…

  • You need a 6-pack and McDonald's...and love eggs... Go buy a 6-pack of Budweiser from the gas station/McDonald's combo station and grab some egg mcmuffins on your way out... Problem solved.
  • TL;DR Most of my weight was lost with a moderate (TDEE-80%) calorie deficit and a 4 day/week weight training program with minimal cardio. Weight lifting for FAT loss is not a myth at all. For "weight" loss...possibly...depending on your diet. But coming from a different side of things...why does it matter to you what…
  • Your weight loss has NOTHING to do with the fact that you eat only eggs and drink a protein shake... It has everything to do with the fact that you are starving yourself. 8 eggs only has about 550 calories...plus the average protein shake with around 250 or so calories...is less calories than I have before lunch. You need…
  • PHO!!!
  • I don't live in a neighborhood as I am quite happy being in the middle of nowhere with lots of land. That being said, whenever I go running (whether it is on the Greenway in town or just down the road near my house) I always pass other runners, bicyclists, dog walkers, rollerbladers, etc. I'm glad that it's not as busy and…
  • +1 I can't even begin to write my response or else be reported by the "you're so un-supportive" MFP police.
  • Dude, I just checked your diary. You eat around 600 calories less than me and I am a 5'5" female. Please eat more. 1200 calories is nowhere near enough, and no wonder your stomach is screaming for more food. Even when I am cutting calories a lot, I still eat 1500 or so a day. :flowerforyou:
  • Everyone has always commented that my husband is pretty much exactly like my Dad. :flowerforyou:
  • Thanks for the advice guys. I have looked over what I do again and compared it to the articles posted. Following the articles' advice and using the calculators given, then I need to be eating around 1800 calories on average daily to lose weight. If I go back and use the MFP calculators, it comes out to 1390 + exercise. I…
  • How long (time and distance) are your long runs, and what (if anything) have you been doing for energy during those runs? If you have never used the gels or anything like that and your long runs are over 8 miles or over an hour long, I wouldn't think you need to worry gels and such for your half. I also agree that you…
  • I am also 5'5" tall. My highest weight was 191 and my lowest was 126. Currently I am somewhere around 140 (I think...that's what I weighed at the doctor's office in July, but I haven't stepped on the scale since then). I would like to get back down to somewhere between 127-133 or so. My true goal is 18% body fat, and the…
  • I like to camp out in the running section of Academy Sports. I even have some Nike Tempo shorts that I wear around as "fashion" as opposed to merely running shorts. And I'm always scoping out the deals on running shoes even after I just buy some new ones.
  • I'd like to have about 18% body fat, and I am guessing that will be put me in about a size 4? I wear sizes 6 or 8 right now and am trying to lose some more body fat so I can run faster races more easily...not sure what size that will put me in exactly.
  • Remember that even though a 2 pound per week loss is your goal and your numbers all add up to that on paper, rarely does it ever happen in reality anyway. I say, keep your scale and don't spend any more money on scales. Use it once per week and record the number progression over time...a lot of time, not just from one week…
  • Just to echo what everyone else has already said, I think you will do just fine with a real Olympic bar instead of a Smith machine. They really are hit and miss...mostly miss, though. I remember a couple of years ago feeling all bad *kitten* using one doing bench press...I was doing 100 pounds free at my gym, but I had to…
  • They are not exactly the way I want them to look because I am still cutting a little more fat...however...I do love the way they look now and I'd be satisfied with them if I just stopped losing fat right now. But, like I said, I am trying to cut a little more fat so they may look different in a couple of months.
  • You can not spot reduce. You can not target any area through exercise for fat loss. The best or "right" exercise is whatever one you will stick with in addition to eating at a calorie deficit. I wish we could choose where we would lose fat from, but alas, we can't. Just workout and eat at a deficit.
  • It was the calorie deficit, not any specific exercise. Calorie deficits lead to fat loss. You can't spot reduce, and no cardio exercise is better than any others at reducing fat from certain areas. Basically, whichever one made you have a larger calorie deficit...whichever one burned more calories...had the bigger effect.…
  • To gain mass you need to be eating at a surplus. Or are you still trying to lose weight and want to strengthen the rear? To strengthen the area, I prefer to do barbell squats, Romanian deadlifts, walking lunges with dumbbells, and split squats for lower body area around the booty. I've never been a fan of the glute machine…
  • Instead of sticking to some app on your phone program...why not just go out and run? I mean, just...just go. See what you can do. When I started running, I didn't use any program of any kind. I just picked 3 days a week to go running. Personally, I think for beginners, it might be easier to just use a certain amount of…
  • I agree with everyone saying "YES" to calories do really matter, and I like this above menu offered to you. If you are exercising, you can probably eat even more than this and still lose weight comfortably, but you didn't mention how much and what kind of exercise you do. But, yes, calories do matter, and if you were…
  • After 2 years you guys haven't decided on how many calories golfing and riding in a cart burn?
  • Pretty much this. Also I think it isn't so much that fat is "demonized," but that people are aware that fats have more calories than proteins and carbs so they try to cut calories by cutting fat. I personally have lower fat milk for that reason when on a deficit and make sure I get fats in other places because loading up…
  • Please read the first post of the following thread: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1159755-looking-for-a-detox-cleanse
  • I'm looking forward to running in the Boston Marathon one day... But back to the OP, I have noticed very much lately that there seems to be more "fit shaming" than "fat shaming" going on. Society seems to have shifted some. I honestly think that the people that partake in that crap are just too uncomfortable in their own…
  • They aren't. I loaded up on them last night after my 10 mile run and feel/look awesome today.
  • This... And society is highly fit phobic as well. It seems that my abs are now "manly" or "gross" or whatever now. I think the problem is just that people want to think of themselves as better than others, and that often times means that they have to find something about other people that they don't like so they can have…
