  • "A recent study found that it takes an average of 86 hours’ worth of aerobic exercise to lose 1kg [1]," The study cited is referring to this: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3061001/ - A total of 320 postmenopausal, sedentary, normal weight-to-obese women aged 50–74 years who were cancer-free, nondiabetic and…

  • I use Evening Primrose oil for breast cysts and fish oil for dry skin and whatever else its supposed to be good for - 3 capsules a day of each. (I take them all at once, I don't know how efficacious that is but I'd forget otherwise. You have to be choosy about the brand you use due to low and uneven dosing during the…
  • I know the feeling! My exercise pants are falling off me when I'm jogging but the weight doesn't and when I measure myself I remain the same! Weird. However I can see I have more definition and I feel healthier. Are you exercising? Sitting at a desk all day is draining, get some deskercise!…
  • As far as soy goes there is soy grits (hard crumbs of soy that you soak and cook in stir fries, casseroles, etc. Possibly use in a salad, but I haven't tried that. Tofu, soft or hard, can be used in all of the above as well as for a dessert. There is soy yoghurt available in a lot of supermarkets these days. I drink a cup…
  • I still buy non-fiction and poetry as hard-copies and fiction as ebooks and audiobooks.
  • Hi roninmars, I walk and jog. I see-saw from 6.5 - 8kph according to my treadmill and cardio trainer app; however I think they are both wrong. I average out at high 7's according to the app which seems too fast for what I am doing (speeding up and slowing down). When I get an hrm I will have a better idea I suppose.
  • Doing 5k on my treadmill (now that I've managed to fix it!) and a little light lifting. I can only manage about 40 minutes for 5k due to being an old dud. I aspire to 30 minutes then want to move on to 10k injuries and illness permitting!
  • I have thought that too. Having been regular and now erratic. Also migraine, stomach pain, heavy flow some women have this every month for a lot of their lifetime. And I seem to have the mental effects for at least twice a month regardless of actual menstruation. Thankfully my memory is now practically non-existent so I…
  • Thanks for the suggestion. :flowerforyou: I'll give that a try... if my own attempts at fixing it fail and if I can put it back together again!
  • Treadmill because I tend to trip on pavement and I like having temperature control. I think outside would be more interesting and challenging but I'm not fit enough. I don't get bored when I have my mp3 player with me, I'd probably not even get on it without music to spur me on.

  • I had most of the symptoms listed by others. What a nightmare it is. I take half a xanax pill a couple of nights a month when the anxiety is through the roof. I take evening primrose oil and it has helped a lot. I am prone to breast cysts (don't know if that is a menopause symptom but it only started in the past few years…
  • Greetings JanLeb, Menopause is certainly not a day at the park! I've been having symptoms for at least a couple of years but I don't remember when exactly it started. I finally had it confirmed with a blood test and now am considering what option to take to remedy symptoms, if anything. So many conflicting messages I can't…
  • Yes I get that, it comes and goes thankfully. It also happens in the night and can wake me up when it is really bad. I was worried that it might be something else and was relieved to read that a lot of women have it too. ... It seems that you now have to be a member on the power surge forum to read the posts but that is…

  • Obvious risks as stated in that article that I linked to and every other article I've read about HRT - blood clots (lung and deep vein thrombosis), cardiovascular disease.

  • Happy Canada day! Never been, would love to go.
  • Recently there has been a bit of resurgence in confidence about the efficacy of HRT. Apparently the studies that caused the most fear about breast cancer in particular were not very stringent and involved women over the age of 75 where a higher rate of breast cancer is found naturally. Although there are obvious risks it…

  • I read that cinnamon is good for hot flushes but there are quite a few contra-indications including diabetes and high blood pressure. I haven't tried it in any medicinal way (unless you count cinnamon donuts as medicinal) so can't comment on its efficacy.
  • I have the same problem and think it must be hormonal, in which case HRT might help. I could never get a comb through my hair when I was younger but now not only is it white (with patches of grey) but it has thinned so much I can clearly see my scalp through it. To add insult to injury I have big ears so short hair is not…
  • What Kimmy said. I get Kikkoman salt reduced soy from Coles, it's in the sauces section not in the Asian groceries section at my local store.
  • I sympathise. I had a friend that had them regularly and only rest in a darkened room with copious amounts of ibuprofen helped. I've only started having them in the past couple of years; always before a period or around ovulation - not every month thankfully. It's a very strange feeling but the worst part is the…
  • Greetings Teri, good luck with the weight loss and the other thing! Sounds like you already earned a medal with previous weight loss so what's your secret? Don't tell me hard work and persistence. :( I would love to visit your part of the world one day, but probably will never get the chance.
  • Maybe portion size?
  • Very interesting. Thanks for posting.
  • My husband has that. He finally had one surgically removed and things did not improve at all. He wears orthotics which help alleviate the pain when walking but he doesn't exercise at all. Do a search for foot yoga. Might help. Commiserations and good luck to you.
