  • Great pictures! Snowshoeing (or snowshoe carrying) is great exercise, and there's no better place to do it than in the Cascades. Just watch out for the tree wells. In past years we've gone up from Paradise (Mt. Rainier), and on the closed forest service road just past Crystal Mountain.

  • I'm going to try something crazy and actually address the OP's question. The old school fanny pack holster kind of comes into its own for cyclists. It is secure in that you won't lose the weapon in a crash, yet still offers reasonably quick access. Plus you can keep your ID, cash, etc. there as well. You might also want to…
  • Thank you for the kind words. If, by using what I outlined in that post, you channel the fear into vigilance, you find that the fear goes away but the vigilance remains. Once people commit to maintaining good situational awareness they find that they never look at the world the same way again.
  • Alpha Cardio done.
  • I have T25, Insanity, and P90X. Since I spend up to half of each year in hotels, they are a great way to workout in the room. One word of advice to fellow road warriors, though. If you're going to be jumping around in your hotel room the other guests will appreciate it if you select a ground level room. Trust me on that…
  • My post above was not meant to discourage women from running alone. The purpose was to arm those who do, or anyone for that matter, with some tools to improve their safety.
  • I'm starting today, along with weightlifting and incline treadmill work.
  • After reading through this entire thread, I would like to weigh in (no MFP pun intended) as it is relevant to what I do. As a security management consultant currently working on developing a travel safety/security course I see a lot of parallels between the OP and my work. My advice here is based upon years of training…
  • This thread inspired me today to thaw out some whitetail backstrap. I marinated it for a couple of hours in Stonewall Kitchen Sriracha Teriyaki sauce, cabernet, and minced garlic. Then I pan fried it in olive oil. Good stuff, that.

  • I suggest checking out outdoor writer Jim Zumbo's Amazing Venison Recipies. It's a cookbook he sells on his website.

  • I travel exetensively for work and here's what has worked for me. First, I try to stay in a hotel that has larger rooms such as a Residence Inn. This serves two purposes: There is space to workout in the room with Insanity, and the in room kitchen so I can control what I eat. I hate hotel gyms (or gyms in general). Early…
  • LOL I'm trying. That bridge, straw, full cup thing really helped.
  • Sadly, this wasn't one of them.
  • OP, thanks for the pages of entertainment. I'm sure the folks reading at the other places you posted this were just as concerned for your mental well being as we are. Now I'm off to visit our local Starbucks. https://www.facebook.com/Starbucks/posts/10152063302883057…

  • Well, 49 is close.
  • Week 3 starts tomorrow. Prior to this I wasn't working out so this is a butt kicker. I take a lot of breaks, but I don't let that bother me. As long as I'm out there sweating I'm not on the couch!
  • What he said!

  • I blog about craft beer (ThirstyWarrior on FB & Twitter), so I'm a huge fan of the American beer Renaissance. I just won't drink that macrobrew fizzy yellow liquid that some call beer; for me it's the good stuff of nothing. That said, now that I'm committed to getting back in shape I have to watch it. That means fewer…

  • As someone who blogs about craft beer, and a lover of wine, (ThirstyWarrior on FB & Twitter) I figure pushing harder at Insantiy buys some caloric wiggle room. That and I'm cutting out the other junk. If Spartan warriors and the Roman Legion could be in great shape and still drink wine and beer (yes they had beer too), so…
  • Perhaps try a sippie cup or a sports type water bottle?
  • I finished Day 2 of Week 2. The DVDs will be going with me on a month long business trip so I can continue the workout in hotel rooms.
