  • Snap, I fell as well, I had nt been running for nearly 2 weeks and although I was still trying to eat sensibly I had a few naughty moments with chocolate, crisps and oreo's:ohwell: :noway: I felt angry with myself as I was doing so well, so this morning i restarted my fitness and diet. i also restarted filling in my diet…
  • A good jog should help burn the calories, unless you are training for an event theres no real need to run. As long as you maintain a good jogging pace over a decent distance. I do a a mile and half 4 days a week. Initially when I started a sensible diet and jogging the weight fell off, but now I'm stuck at 238lbs:noway:…
  • I agree probably the oxygen thing, but another one to consider is your running shoes. Have they got plenty of give to absorb shock from traveling through the body and jarring joints and your head? Just a thought.
  • I tried my wedding trousers on today and they fit:drinker: I could do with losing a bit more so they arent as snug:embarassed: but I got them on, 3 weeks ago there was a 3" gap when trying to fasten them:frown: So i'm happy:bigsmile:
  • governments that protect us from predators Yikes thats scary:huh: :noway:
  • Cheesecake  yes please:bigsmile:
  • I thinnk that we can all agree that each and every one of us is different in all ways. So although we have experts and doctors telling us what is good for us, it may not always be right for you as an individual. We need to experiment with our diets till we get it right for us as an individual. July24Lioness, I'm…
  • Wow thanks everyone lots of good ideas and websites to check out:drinker: Although I have a real big hill to tackle on the way to work, when I'm tired at the end of the day I can cruise downhill on the way back:happy:  For the wet weather I did think about a poncho/cape type outfit that I have seen advertised in…
  • Yep 14lbs, I always move the tape around till I find the slimmest part:bigsmile:  I go around the belly button area. I have had people tell me that my waist is where my trouser waistline should sit,:noway: If I wore mine on my waist I'd have a Simon Cowell look:laugh:
  • A small tin/carton of low fat rice pudding goes down quite well and doesnt fill you up. I was recommended that by a personal trainer. Not sure how much energy it gives though
  • I took 5 days off from running and started again this morning, my legs felt fine and I managed to shave a minute off my time:bigsmile: I only run 1.5 miles and when I started 4 weeks ago I was doing it in 15 minutes over the weeks I have now managed to get that to 12 minutes. I do feel a little disappointed with my time,…
  • There are reports available from the FDA if you want to be paranoid. These are reports that specify how much bug eggs they will allow in food, for example. The worst food for bug parts? Peanut butter. The bugs, literally, come in with the peanuts and they don't have time to separate the bugs from the peanuts when they come…
  • Just need to take a towel to dry off:ohwell: My elasticated shin supports are like tubigrip. Its basically like a stretchy knee support but shaped for the calf and lower leg. Its like wearing really tight high socks:laugh: Probably similar to the ones you buy to prevent deep vein thrombosis on planes. but tighter…

  • So the general consensus is Peanut butter is good:drinker:   The only type I can see in our supermarket though is Sunpat, time to shop around:bigsmile:
  • :noway: :frown: yikes, I did consider cycling to work, which is about 5 miles, and a third of that is up hill (onthe way there:bigsmile: ) but we don't have any shower facilities there and I would be all sweaty, plus we are having a typical UK summer and it has rained nearly everyday for the last month:grumble:
  • After 2 days rest and shin supports they were okay, but they hurt again this morning, I dont think they going to get better fast:explode:   :frown: :frown:  Oh well back to the ice and shin exercises, plus I will by some tighter supports today.
  • It's difficult to cut out something that you have been eating for the best part of your life:frown: and I appreciate where you are coming from, but i also think its okay to have treats as well, in fact I think its important. If you try and cut out all the supposed junk straight off you are aiming to fail. Some people can…
  • Yes the great all round exercise, but try varying your swimming stroke for each length:wink:

  • I really hate the taste of artificial sweeteners so i have cut out coke and other fizzy drinks altogether. I prefer orange juice anyway, but that shows as containing a lot of sugar even though it is fruit sugar.:grumble: :ohwell:
  • Okay i rested the over the weekend and I bought some elasticated shin supports, that really helped, I wasn't in half the discomfort. I even shaved a minute of my time:drinker:
  • What a great story. I have a pair of trousers in my wardrobe that I wore to get married to my beautiful wife Donna in 5 years ago on the 28th, and its my aim to be back in them soon:bigsmile:
  • Okay after this mornings run I'm pretty sure its shin splints:sad: :ohwell: I did my stretching before and after, but I get the pain exactly where the experts say it would be:noway: So once I had finished I rubbed ice on my shins and after my shower applied ibuleve. While running I made a conscious effort to see how I was…
  • okay i've just googled it and checked out several sites, the general consensus is that if you stretch and strengthen your calf muscles it balances it out and should help prevent it. I think I will try strengthening my calfs and try the toe lifting to improve the whole of my lower leg. There are some good videos by physios…
  • Wow well done:drinker: :glasses: I bet thats a great feeling:happy: I have noticed looking at a picture of myself from may comparing myself now that I am losing weight:bigsmile:

  • Thanks for the advice guys, I did think about shin splints, but the discomfort runs down the side of my shins and seems to be in the muscle that runs down the inside of the shin as well??? Next time I run I will check how I'm landing, it may well be on my toes, I think i have always run like that:noway: If its shin splints…

  • I have this thought every morning:bigsmile: But when I do get out running and pass the first 5 minutes I'm okay glad that I did. Also those outfits are a target, stick picture on the fridge so they are there to help and dissuade when attacking the fridge:bigsmile: I find completing my MFP diary helps and seeing how well…
