Oh, the only serious side effect is if you take it when you are sick--it can cause a condition - the name of which I forget- that can be dangerous, I just stop taking Metformin if I have a bad cold flu, etc.

I have taken Metformin off and on for about 10 years. The worst side effect is GI distress but if you take the ER version (long acting) and start slowly, it isn't so bad. From what I have read, this is a safe drug, doe not cause weight gain and does have other helpful aspects, as you mentioned. There are a lot of other…

Thanks! I have had them scraped before. Not fun!

I think it would be pretty hard to stick with Furham's diet.

mine,too :)

Thanks!

The only thing I can think this relates to might be the electrolyte issues some people have at the start. That is, you might have low potassium, magnesium, and sodium. Those are important for proper heart functioning. So, it's probably smart to supplement those during adaptation. Yes, this is what he was referring to I…

I am also interested in the concept of Resistant Starch and if anyone here works with that? I have read a few posts here and there about it.

Again, I am not a fan of Furham but just read his book. He cites many studies to support his claims. I have read other studies that say the opposite. As a TT2 diabetic, My bottom line concern is how to deal with this disease in the best way possible. That;s why I am seeking out all of your opinons. I had never heard of…

Smart endo! I figured this out the hard way when I decided to go all out with heavy exercise. Walking is just fine :)
-
I am not a Furham apologist. This is basocally a vegan diet that is low carb. It might work for some people.
-
Very similiar to Dr. Furham's diet. Just posted about it on another thread.

I just happened to see his book in my local bookstore. He is a low carb advocate but not a high fat or protein advocate. He says too much animal protein can hurt the kidneys and too much saturated far causes heart problems. This is not what I have read recently from other lc proponents. Just curious.

I am not saying I plan to follow Furham's diet. I was just wondering what people think. He says fish has no benefit at all which surprised me and we should all be following a plant based diet. I was also curious about the concept of "resistant starch" and what folks think about it. That's all.

Good question. I have experienced the same thing!

I used to think that cole slaw in a restaurant was low carb. Then I tested my bs after that meal and ot went up! I think there was probably some kind of sugar in there. Never ate it again.
-
I think that there are varying opinions about this, even the ADA has a different set of standard than The Society for Endrinologists. To me a FBS of 108 would be amazing. For you, maybe not so much. Its a puzzle.
-
I have read that walking is one of the best things to do for pre or diabetes. At least every other day.
-
I was so surprised that such a big, high fat breakfast would actually help mu BS go down! It is counter intuitve, Before lchf I would never eat a breakfast like that!!!

Never heard Trulicity?

sorry for the typos!

Well, here's my experience. I have very high FBS (200 and up). My doctor told me to eat a snack before bed with some carb and protein to ward off the DP. No matter if I eat a snack or not, my FBS is always very high. Here's what I have learned. 1. Eat a good breakfast within one hour of rising. Today I woke up and had…

Yes, Metformin. And you?
