  • I would love a section for menopause issues! I am am post-menopausal and still use HRT. I am almost 58, joined MFP in 2010, went from 184/size 14 to low 150s/size 8 for a short time but am mostly a size 10 in the 160 range. I swear I gained 10 pounds in the last few months with very few changes in my lifestyle! And it's…
  • Wow what an inspiration! You look like a completely different person! Keep up the great work - being healthy is the best gift you could give yourself and your family and not over-eating, eating the right foods and working out will keep you healthy!
  • I just got the new Kindle Fire HDX 7" I have an iphone so the operating system takes a little bit to figure out - it is not quite like Apple. I would have liked ah ipad but for the price difference I just couldn't justify it. Plus a lot of the health/food people I follow on Facebook post links to free kindle books. I am…
  • A lot of sources I have read indicate eating spicy foods help too.
  • I try sometimes to follow it - lately not so much! But a trainer my friend works out with advocates it and he says pastured/organic butter is okay. He recommends Kerrygold or a local organic butter.
  • I love watching the Volleyball! And it's not because they were bikinis LOL! I forget - do the men wear shirts? If so then I guess a change to a more conservative "uniform" is reasonable - such as athletic tanks and shorts but if the men are shirtless, why can't the women wear a bikini?
  • Yeah! That is so cool - love the photo!
  • Less than 10% is way too low. My daughters are 14 and 16% and their doctor has said they should be more like 18%
  • I didn't know RR has gf bun - good to know! Olive Garden has GF options including pasta Also Johnny Carino's - however it is hard to find meatless, gf at Johnny Carino's. In Grand Rapids Michigan the Gilmore Collection restaurants feature several GF items and there are other local restaurants with GF options too (as well…
  • I saved this on Pinterest because I think she has amazing arms and abs - my two trouble spots. I would not have the belly button piercing though ;-) Tried to embed photo without success oh well http://pinterest.com/pin/231583605808371337/
  • I am not a huge fan of the body builder look but some women actually have great arms/abs without working that hard. My 17 yo daughter laments how strong her arms look and her veins pop after lifting weights. She is actually lifting less often now because she doesn't want to look so strong. Before this year though she never…
  • wow this is soooo inspiring! What an incredible motivator to exercise. Keep it up!
  • But these are real foods. I think the problem with our health is we have created "foods" that our body can't metabolize (almost everything in a box).
  • I just read something yesterday on one of the many paleo things I see that these are not as bad because there is nutritional value in the pod which helps off set the antrinutrients in the seed.
  • great job - glad it is working so well for you! I have Gary Taubes books on my list of books to read.
  • I was at a weekly seminar with a bunch of trainers this morning and they said you should have blood work and discuss with a doctor what your macro ratios should be. I know when I drop the carbs, I drop the pounds. I have never put on weight on days when I eat a lot of meat and fats. I also feel good. However if I don't get…
  • OH I so agree! This would be really helpful!
  • Or make Meatza - two pounds of ground beef plus toppings. You can probably vary the toppings but I know Costco has big jars of Kalmata olives and a few choices for feta. This is yummy! http://www.marksdailyapple.com/greek-meatza-with-creamy-feta-kalamata-olives-and-red-onion/#axzz1jHZbjndN
  • Taso I am disappointed to find you are not the one who started this post! I sure hope it helps with bulk because we have two really long sidewalks and that snow is heavy.
  • Have you tried going gluten-free? I don't have IBS but am avoiding gluten because of all the stuff I read about it. YOu might search for an article by Dr. Mark Hyman that was on Huffington Post a while ago or look him up on facebook. There are a ton of reliable sources for a gluten free eating style on the internet. A lot…
  • Seconding what others said about Larabars I try to buy those that are GMO and Gluten Free. "Kind" bars are another brand to try - they even sell them at Starbucks. These things are expensive though (around $2 each) and a lot of calories. I think they have their place in supplementing when you need more calories and don't…
  • I am also in Grand Rapids.
  • Yep! Make sure you have plenty of healthy alternatives. I almost always bring a snack to work with me: raw almonds or other nuts, fruit, or leftovers so I am not tempted to indulge in something not so good. Also drinking hot green tea can help me resist sweets when I crave them.
  • I agree with poster above me - Chipotle is one of best options for a relatively quick meal out of the house. My mom meets with a naturopath doctor for inflammation and weight issues and he even recommends Chipotle. Their food comes from much better sources than your average restaurant - mostly grass-fed beef, lots of…

  • That is so cool - I love reading the food section on Huffington Post. They have some really good contributors too like Dr. Mark Hyman. Off to read... Congratulations!
  • I made this stew yesterday - it was so yummy! I did have stew meat from a local farm which was super tender! I used a shallot instead of onion and organic vegetable broth in place of beef stock. I have a daughter who doesn't eat meat so I always have a lot of veg broth around! I ate one bowl, my hubby two bowls and I…
  • You must be a caveman! LOL Sorry about your wife - good for you to learn from a tragic lesson and improve your life.
  • Just curious - what does this cost? I imagine the shipping is a lot since it includes the weights. Fortunately I have a free gym membership and do pump twice a week. I love it and would consider buying the home version for this time of year or in the coming months when the weather is bad and it's hard to drive to the gym.
  • jbdown - wow that is so cool that you're watching the movie and sharing it had such an impact. I haven't watched the movie but my mom told me about it and I have read the website of the producers as well as some other books. I also now buy my meat from local farmers. I just picked up breakfast sausage, ground beef and beef…

  • Thanks for the Food rules suggest ion - I have read Omnivore's Dilemma I bought the book Eat Clean by Tosca Reno. It probably would work for men as well as women. Tosca Reno who wrote it is married to Robert Kennedy (not political Kennedys!) and he publishes a lot of magazines including Oxygen. I can't remember which one…
