  • My nails were really brittle too. I just got a multivitamin with Biotin in it, and they were much, much better within 2 days. Although, if you're taking a pre-natal vitamin, I would think that would be enough to resolve the issue. Does it have Biotin?
  • Another vote for Fitness Blender here. I've been doing their workouts about 4-5 days a week (just bought a 4-week program yesterday). I also walk as much as possible and run when I can. I usually burn an extra 400 - 1000 calories per day depending on how much I do. I eat back most of my exercise calories. I have a fitbit…
  • Oh wow. My time zone in MFP was off. I was having the same issue as the OP. I bet that will help. Thanks!!
  • Fitbit solves all problems. :p
  • But you have a Fitbit so you know what your TDEE is already. You could just use that number if you wanted to try this method out.
  • Hm, you guys (and gals) are making me think about this. I may try the TDEE method... According to Fitbit, my TDEE at this point is 2400, so I would just eat 2000 (or a little less) daily for a reduction of about 20%. And I can keep track of my TDEE from Fitbit and adjust as necessary. Right? I would do a 20% reduction no…
  • This for me too! And also this!
  • Definitely makes sense and I will likely try it at some point. I never know how my day is going to go and I base what I'm going to eat on my ongoing activity. I don't pre-log, I eat as I go. Maybe not the cleanest way to do things, but it's woking out ok so far.
  • It includes it upfront though, right? I like earning through my fitbit and seeing the count go up throughout the day.
  • I can understand where you're coming from. I'm sure your husband would be fine with your weight anyway, but I do get what you're saying. That said, every time I lose a little, my husband knows it! I practically shout it from the rooftops. lol The same with him too. He tells me when he's gone down.
  • I like food and wine. I earn more of them through exercise.
  • I like earning more food to eat through exercise, so I use MFP's way, and I like it!
  • Take progress pictures. I have a hard time seeing any changes in the mirror, but pictures help me see the changes. Don't give up though. 20 pounds is fabulous! Great job!
  • I assume you're talking about vitamin B12. Animals get B12 from the dirt when they're eating. So what do you think happens with cows, pigs, chickens that are locked up in factory farms? Where do they get their B12 from? They are supplemented with it. I read a stat that said the factory farmed animals get 90% of the B12…
  • The McDougall Plan does not exactly encourage alcohol, but Dr. McDougall doesn't say you can have it if you can moderate it (and says that people, generally speaking, have an issue with moderation). Fat is not bad. Added oils are not allowed (if you're strictly following the program), but fats from whole foods - nuts,…
  • Yes, this happens to me every single night. I've been adding 200-300 quick calories daily just because I know that amount will be taken away (and it's a little buffer for those licks, bites and condiments that I don't track). Or, you could leave 200ish calories at the end of the day (or however many MFP usually takes…
  • I so wish I had this problem where I thought this was too much food. I sometimes earn an extra 1k calories, allowing me to eat up to 2400, and I still go over. :#
  • I exercise for the sole purpose of being able to eat more, so yes, I eat them back! But, I'm currently burning 500-1000 calories in exercise per day. If it was 200 or less, I probably wouldn't eat them back and just use it as a buffer.
  • Just want to say you rock. And I love nutritional yeast. That is all.
  • It seems like you're on the shorter side, already pretty thin, and not super active. My semi-educated guess is that 1348 is normal for you. I think your best bet is to increase your activity. I know you say you walk around campus and you do some exercise now and again, but it doesn't sound like a lot of activity overall.…
  • I'm not a vegan, but I eat a mostly plant-based diet and I follow all of the above people/sites mentioned. Also check out Dr. Neal Barnard's videos on YouTube. There are tons and tons of cookbooks and blogs with great recipes. I feel overwhelmed sometimes by how many things I want to try! Some podcasts you can listen to: -…
  • Time Ferris sometimes talks about nutrition and has some good guests on that talk about that. He seems to be a little more on the Paleo side. My favorite is the Rich Roll podcast. Not all nutrition, but a good amount is. However he's a plant-based ultra athlete, so many of his episodes are based on those two topics (plants…
  • There is one that is wildly inaccurate. I think what I do is use canned corn instead. The canned corn entries seem to be accurate.
  • Everyone looks fabulous! I love reading this thread! I'm not done yet, and hopefully I'll have an updated picture in the next few months. My results are not dramatic compared to some, but I'm happy with how things are going. I'm 5'6. My highest was 143 (before I stopped looking at the scale!) The left pic I'm probably 138.…
  • This time I looked in the mirror and felt I was truly letting myself go. I felt out of control. In the past, I tried to do the 1200 calorie thing. I also didn't log everything. It was willy-nilly. I didn't feel fully committed. This time, I log everything. I'm consistent. (I have a 120 day streak going - waaaaay more than…
  • Yup, it's pretty awesome! I just gave my husband my Charge so I could get the HR. Really glad I upgraded.
  • I've been loving fitness blender at-home workouts. Maybe you could try 1 of those (or something similar)? Even a short one. It will make you feel good and hopefully give you the momentum to keep going.
  • There's a function on the fitbit itself where you hold the button in when you start your activity, and then hold it in again when you're done. During that time period it'll track your heart rate, how many steps you took and how many calories you've burned and it'll automatically upload the stats to your dashboard.
  • I just upgraded to the Fitbit Charge HR, and I really love it because it does pick up those extra activities. So, if I'm doing a home workout, I can track it separately (you could do the same with bike riding and other non-step activity). So far, I find it be very accurate. I was worried that it would overestimate my burn,…
  • That's exactly what I use! ha. Guess it's not that then.
