Don't panic. Talk to your doctor. You might want to increase your fat intake, but knock something else down, like carbs. You do need some fat - a woman's body uses fat to produce the hormones that keep our cycles in balance. And anyway, with an increase in fat, you might feel less hungry. I also found that a daily dose of…

I like to experiment in the kitchen AND we have an ice cream maker. I feel your pain...

When Sally Fields starts venting anger after the funeral in Steel Magnolias. When the two sisters, Celie and Nettie (Whoopi Goldberg and Akosua Busia) finally meet towards the end of the movie in the Color Purple.

I pop ibuprofen and go for a good walk, and I make time for it because I owe it to myself to be mindful of me and my needs. It's hard to find the energy sometimes, but once I get moving, I feel so much better. If the weather is crappy, I also have easy access to an elliptical trainer - I'll find an interesting podcast,…

I was taking it because my knees were hurting. I stopped taking it because it did something to really lower my blood pressure, and I got pretty woozy, and I could really feel my heart working, particularly when I would drink a glass of wine or something. Turns out that it's one of the side effects (lowered blood pressure).…

Watch the "Fat Free" labels, as they usually have added sugar (or some form of sugar - honey, corn syrup, etc.), salad dressing included.

What are you cheating on? If you eat it, don't log it and don't acknowledge it, then I'd call THAT a cheat day. If you're going to over-do it on a given day, and you don't feel like estimating everything (especially if it's a bunch of hors d'oeuvre, appetizers, buffet, what-have-you) then you can estimate as a "quick-add"…
-
Of course. Ignoring what you eat on any day does NOT EQUAL zero calories. Holidays included.
-
You logged it! That's going in the right direction. There are any number of people out there who, if they deem it a "bad" day, don't log it at all - a denial of sorts. It's expected, especially this time of year. Maybe get out and do some more cardio, even a brisk 30-minute walk. Exercise is something that helps with…

I'm 154 cm and was also on the higher end of my BMI. My initial goal was to lose about 20 pounds, so what I did was break up the 20 pounds into increments. That is, I would target losing 5 pounds, and once I got there, adjust the goal to lose the next 5 pounds. I did this at 1/2 pound per week. Doing it this way made my…

Yes, it's worth logging. It's naive to "reset" and start over. It's also naive to avoid logging the "special occasion days". That's labeled denial. You're still eating, right? Just because it's not logged doesn't mean it equals 0 calories for the day. How many people avoid logging their "over" days, special or not, only to…

YES. MFP already calculates a calorie deficit BEFORE exercise. If you exercise, then yes, you should be eating back a portion, if not all, of your exercise calories.

Fat is fat is fat is fat is fat. C'mon people.

In this article, were parents taking their children to personal trainers to improve body condition and health? Is that how the personal trainers came to give this feedback? Just curious. I think, yes, if one decides to be a parent and have children, then they are responsible for the health of their children, and are…

We eloped to avoid family politics and hassle. A year later, we had a "brunch reception" which worked out fine with the family and friends. The brunch was brunch - no big "party" hassle, and nice.

A four-mile power walk with my big dog! I found the time today because I am on annual leave this week - at home.

I usually eat those calories back. I also am at 1200 calories per day. And before everyone gets judgmental about it, I'm at the lower end of my target weight, I'm 5'1", and am targeted at 0.4 lb weight loss per week (read: four-tenths) - there's no way I should (or can safely) go lower on the calories. I do find that at…

Yup, yup! Agree totally! I didn't change what I was eating, I just eat less of it. When I started MFP, what I found was this: for some crazy reason, I was trying to eat as much as my husband eats. I still eat what he eats, just less!
-
I'm 5'1", I started back in August 2012 at 137 pounds. My "far-off" goal was to reach 115 pounds. I did the weight loss in 5-pound increments. Every time I hit that 5-pound-loss goal, I adjusted my profile for the next 5 pounds. It made the process so much less daunting! I don't have before/after pics, but from my last…

I only weigh myself every 3-4 weeks.

Yes. I record EVERYTHING, which is the point of counting calories, isn't it? I also use the iPhone and iPad apps, which have a feature so you can view the average calories you've eaten over the week (a week is Monday through Sunday). I try to keep my calories (including exercise) at a weekly average. Say, if my daily…

To answer the topic question: "HELL NO". Going to work sick is just plain irresponsible. That being said, I understand that not everyone has the same flexibility with sick days. There needs to be change management there...

If I'm craving something that's going to put me "over" for the day, I try to plan the time to take a brisk walk! If you have time for that, it makes the actual fulfillment of the craving so much more guilt-free.

Once every three weeks or I might wait as long as a month. And yes, I record it each time, up or down, even that last pound I gained.

Hi- 5'1", started at 137, first goal was to get to 130. Second goal (current) is to get to 120. I'm now at 125. Once I get to 120, I'll adjust again to 115 (that's what it says on my driver's license!). My weekly goal has always been 1/2 pound per week. I am fairly active, plus at least 3 workouts a week, and my current…
