  • I've done both p90x and 30 day shred (I assume that is what you meant by 'shred') - They're both difficult and tiring. The shred moves were easier overall for me, and the workout is much shorter. That said, I like Tony (from p90x) way of encouraging more than Jillian's, and his gives more variety. They both work, though…
  • I love Zumba. Was going 2x a week (in addition to 3 strength workouts), but re-injured my knee so had to lay off for a while. I'm looking forward to getting back to it within the next few weeks. it's way more interesting than any other kind of working out, for me.
  • I really like almond milk, as it's much creamier than a lot of the non-dairy milks I've tried. Not giving up milk totally, but want to be careful about what kinds I do drink.
  • -Emotional eating -lack of exercise past grade school -too many 'quick fixes' where I lost a lot then gained that plus more back. -emotional eating -lazy -fat and out of shape gave me joint problems and poor cardio health, making it harder to exercise. -impulse and immediate satisfaction over long term happiness and health…
  • Spaghetti squash- cook then pull apart with a fork. Use the squash threads instead of noodles and top with a sauce of some kind (tomato, etc). You get the consistency of pasta w/o all the calories and it's delicious!
  • One tip I love that helps a lot is to shop the outside of the store. That's where the 'real' (i.e. non-processed) food typically is like produce, meat, etc.
  • How many calories are you aiming for each day. 450 calories for a salad that serves as a meal and fills you up isn't that bad, especially if you have some kind of protein in it. So you don't care for veggies. Or is it just some veggies? Spinach? Cooked or raw?
  • My gym has the TRX and my trainer sometimes uses it with me. Of all the various things we do, it probably ties freeweights as my favorite. It's SUPER hard at times, but such a good workout and I can feel it working all of me.
  • If I lost/lose almost 20lbs in 2 months, I would be beyond thrilled! You're doing fine!
  • I've got a 'goal' weight but it's just arbitrary. Somewhat simliar to your reasoning, 130 sounds 'acceptable'. But when I get closer (I have a long way to go), I may determine my body is best at a higher or slightly lower weight. It's been so long since I was that weight that I'm not certain what is ideal for me. I'm…
  • I've actually got tears in my eyes after reading this. Your journey hasn't been easy but you approached it determined and are such a strong person!
  • Wow. What an inspiring story! I love the pictures to illustrate your narrative. You are obviously proud of your accomplishments and have every reason to be so. The pic of you jumping the fire in the Spartan run truly illustrates it. Yes you look tired, but the focus there on your face shows that you're not a quitter and…
  • YES! It's a fantastic book. I'm re-reading it now.
  • I love geocaching, but for exercise calories and value of workout totally depends upon terrain. I'll get really tired and burning muscles if hunting for a cache in the woods up a huge hill that requires me to climb rocks. Urban sidewalk terrain obviously doesn't give me the workout but is just as fun.
  • Fresh bacon is absolutely incredible!
  • We've done it now 3 times and it takes a bit of patience, especially the first time, but once you get the hang of it, it goes quickly and everyone at thanksgiving told us (my friend and I do all the cooking) it's the best turkey they've ever had. I have (over the past few months) shifted to only eating meat that is raised…
  • When I was really sick and realized I was avoiding going to the dr because of my weight. My health needs to be more important.
  • We've done free range for the past few years and will never go back! The best way we've found to cook it is to spatchcock it - What's that you say? Basically brining and butterflying. Not only does it give us an amazingly flavorful meal, but it cooks in a LOT less time…
  • -I make homemade burritos then freeze them. They can be microwaved quickly to heat up. -slow cooker for sure - can make all kinds of things in it! -hamburger casserole -pizza casserole I'd think a big time saver would be to freeze in meal sized portions for easy re-heating. many kinds of soup also freeze really well.
  • I've got the Polar FT7. The chest strap isn't even noticeable to me, really.
  • Nope. Unless I happen to have been wearing it for work or something. I sweat it all off anyway so don't see the point. But whatever gets you to the gym and working out.
  • This is a goal of mine too, and my trainer has me doing all kinds of exercises to increase my back, arm, shoulder strength.
  • 30 Day Shred - Even if you can't do it every day, that 25 minutes is brutal and good workout.
  • I've tried a few I like. Currently, I have Met RX in chocolate. It's pretty good. I like to blend it with almond milk and a frozen banana. Also some peanut butter. It's a very filling meal. The only time I do a protein shake for other than a meal replacement is after a really heavy workout. And then I don't add the other…
  • Oh my god. I am literally crying at reading this story. You ARE a hero. Regardless of your career (which, btw, amazing job on your score and congratulations), but because you knew it would take work. You had a goal. You stuck with it through what I'm sure were good and bad days. And you kept your eye on the prize. You are…
  • I finally hired a personal trainer after I admitted to myself that I have a hard time keeping motivated on my own. I currently see her 3x a week. I absolutely love it. I actually look way forward to our sessions. She gives me personal attention, has me set goals that we both work toward, and pushes me WAY harder than I'd…
  • I'm totally in. I'm current at 20 minutes on the bike. My goal is to work up to at least 40 minutes straight.
  • Same here, but my trainer is working me hard and said I'm working harder than most of her clients. There are only a few men around my age at the small gym I go to, and the only time they look at me is to offer encouragement or when we're trying to see who is using what weights, etc. There is some socializing at my gym, but…
  • Once I figured out that I could actually change the figures around, it was very encouraging. I changed it to what I'm eating now, with slightly more on workout days, and it has me losing pretty quickly. Because it doesn't take into consideration things like PCOS and medications that I'm on that may slow loss, I'm guessing…
