  • In. I need to start caring about myself again- so much apathy and other things going on. • I'm ba-aack. Again. Sigh. Tough time with health issues, blah, blah, blah… So, back to 5x5 with quick profession to 3x5 (like next session maybe) from Wendler. Had 3 weeks off. Again. So deloaded to.. Starting points for the month… Squat 135 (did it with ?able form for some) OHP 60 (yeah, I'll be on that for a while) ;…
  • Do a search for some of the weightlifting, resistance training, strength threads here. Many people love their cardio, some do not (I do not, for one), but heavy lifting has lots of benefits and leads to fat loss when combined with a calorie deficit while preserving muscle mass better than cardio alone. Just search the…
  • Not everyone is as gentle as you might expect or like, BUT you HAVE gotten good advice. These products and the ones before and the ones after like them do not work- or work but cause more harm than good, or work but weight returns when stopped- and are not necessary or helpful in the end. People use protein shakes to…
  • When I was suffering with colitis, I'd take VSL#3 which is a pricy one that is shipped on dry ice (and which was actually shown in studies to be of some benefit). It would help in remission, but not as much once a bad flare was underway. Now, I've had the j-pouch surgery and use culturelle over-the-counter (align is…
  • Great post. (bumping for 'my topics') Awesome work! I just can't believe the 'experts' (self-proclaimed, of course) would LIE about 'melting belly fat' or 'blasting muffin top' by using their products or 'secrets' just to make money (wink, wink).
  • I have this one and have no problems with it- have had up to 200 pounds on it, only, so I won't reach or test its claimed capacity. LOL. http://www.amazon.com/USA-Sports-Troy-Barbell-Olympic/dp/B000ZN2KQ4/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1389814114&sr=8-3&keywords=usa+sports+barbell Also, with the olympic (as opposed to standard)…

  • YAY! First day is the hardest (well, mentally, anyway LOL) Good job!
  • I needed to see this...at this exact moment. Thank you for sharing! And, WOW!!! You look great and I hope you feel great too because you did something incredibly difficult with determination and commitment and hard work. Awesome.
  • Um, is your diary complete for the last few days/week? Because eating 350-500 calories a day is NOT safe or healthy, especially if you are training for 5K's or tennis or, you know, anything. Are you looking to add protein shakes to bring your calories up where they should be, or are you planning on maintaining this…
  • Always make sure you warm up for each lift with lighter weights (maybe instead of too much stretching). I have gotten to the point that my low back pain is relieved by lifting, so maybe mine is muscle tightness. I get soreness if I haven't lifted for a couple days, then it gets better as soon as I get back to it. but if I…
  • I used to do a lot of climbing and mountaineering, although I never did it at a high level, I was proud of what I did even if I was never able to climb much over a 5.9 or lead over 5.7, BUT, it's great exercise that forces you to use your core/major muscles and the little stabilizers, as well. The above post is right on-…
  • Stay healthy enough to stick with the program. (This means doing what I can to make this happen- treat my medical issues aggressively and live a healthy lifestyle every day that I can). Keep my eye on the prize - healthier, stronger, and fitter- even when I don't feel like it. I can do better, even when I'm not 100%.…
  • Got knocked off the plan by a month of GI issues related to my past surgery, then nasty asthma & bronchitis. I think I will go back for a modified and abbreviated strong lifts (doing 3 compounds per workout), probably 3X5 to work back up. I also need to get some cardio going- thinking about T25 vs. interval on the…
  • So... I ended up getting quite sick and have been 'out' for the better part of a month. I had a URI, which set off my asthma, which set me up for bronchitis. It took 2 courses of antibiotics and finally steroids to get me on the mend. I'm finally getting better, but... I tried lifting on the 3rd and the 10th and did ok…
  • I have and use this. Does the job and my key fits in there too if I don't get a day locker.
  • My diary is open- but I was 'off' the program for a bit due to illness. Either go back more than 2 weeks or see yesterday/today for example. Although, there is beer…and a piece of candy… maybe not what you are looking for after all.
  • I have been forced into a break by a variety of circumstances. I, of course, gained 3 pounds on this break. But, I hope to be back to my usual state of health next week and will re-start this plan as recommended. Yikes and sigh. Hope you are well.
  • Was "out" for a week- traveling for thanksgiving (alone with my 2 children) across the country. I had no access to a gym, but did swim a couple days and played some backyard football for exercise. I didn't have control over the food presented to me, but only to what I put in my mouth. I didn't like a lot of the prepared…
  • Not entirely sure how you would do squats and bench presses without something to rest the bar in/on- how would you get the bar on your back from the ground for squats?. Can you get squat stands (that's what I have) - they are cheaper and smaller than a rack. Rows and deadlifts from the floor should work.
  • I don't have room for a power rack, although I'd love one. I ended up buying squat stands and they are actually working out very well in the basement/family room. I have these or something very similar. They are not connected at the bottom or anywhere, so I can stash them away in the closet when we have guests or whatever.…
  • I had this problem the other day. Then I thought…hmmmm….what has carbs, but no protein or fat…BEER. So, I had one. (No, I'm not suggesting this, nor would I make an everyday habit out of it, but I was pleased that day to find out that the rare beer I was craving fit perfectly into my macros).
  • Oops- in my post I typed doing 5X5 -- I meant the program 5X5, NOT the reps (no 5X5 for deads) but it sounds that way when you read it, especially for anyone not familiar with the difference between that and Wendler (I was making a comparison, oops). Sorry to be unclear. Thanks Lydia for catching that and clearing it up.
  • I weigh 153 and deadlifted 165 for 4 reps today. I had deloaded and am working my way back up after an injury. I think I hit my max deadlift for 5X5 at 175 after about a month and a half or two months, but it was getting heavy and my form sucked. When I get there this time around (which will take longer on Wendler 5/3/1),…
  • Wendler Week 3- deadlifts with hanging leg raises and good mornings. Went pretty well- max lift 165 X 4. Not bad. I held back putting my max DL in the calculator because I want to keep good form and make sure I don't tweak my back again. So 165X4 was pretty good. Trying to tune up my macros again. Going for 125g of protein…
  • oops, responded in the wrong place... Here we go... Not sure if there is a "right" answer, but after a crappy workout, rest helps me more for the next full-on lifting day, especially if that would be the next day and you'd be skipping a rest day. I am bothered by an "incomplete" workout too, but in the end - big…
  • Thank you and a BIG CONGRATS, by the way!! You are awesome. :)
  • Thank you. I will do my best to hit those macros. I asked my doc and his dietitian again, and I really shouldn't have any special requirements, except, as usual, water and hydration. So, thank you so much for responding and trying to help me. I certainly understand your hesitation- it's an unusual condition/situation. If…
