  • I’m a runner and I can’t say I’ve had such a dramatic issue but as some others have mentioned, when it’s hot I definitely get puffier. I would guess if you’re body isn’t used to this kind of exercise and it’s hot out, it might freak out a little.
  • My first 5k was pretty much my first sporting event too! I really enjoy them and in my experience, a lot of people walk so I’ve never really been towards the back which is nice. Have fun!!
  • I just noticed this got cut off awkwardly! I meant to say, just enjoy yourself
  • I’ve been regularly running for about a year. I really had no running experience before that and I kind of just jumped in. My first 5k was in June of last year and I ran about 11 minutes/mile. Nowadays I can do a 5k in about 8.5 minutes/mile if I push myself. I’m not sure what’s normal as far as progress goes but I’m…
  • I love winter running! It’s certainly different for everyone but I just keep adding layers depending on the temp. When it’s 30-40 degrees I wear my regular leggings, a fleece with windbreaker material on the chest, long sleeve shirt and maybe gloves. 20-30 degrees I add my ear warmer and a short sleeve shirt. 10-20 I add…
  • You’re not being lazy! I have three little ones and I don’t get to 10k steps in a day without some workouts. I started running in the morning before my husband goes to work and I’m really enjoying it! I’ve also done Just Dance as a workout because my kids love doing it with me. And you don’t need the game...the videos are…
  • I stopped keeping soda at home and only drink water. But I do still allow myself a Coke when I go out!
  • I used to but haven't for awhile. I would totally work up a sweat! I ow n the game but then I found that pretty much all the songs are on YouTube so I made myself a YouTube playlist of them. Kinda cheating but then I got songs from various versions without having to change the disc!
  • This might be ridiculous, but it's what works for me. First, I love sweets. I really needed to stop eating them every day so I started allowing them every other day. It's amazing what setting those boundaries does. I have absolutely no problem resisting them on my no sweets days. In fact, it's kind of liberating. And if…
  • I agree. Just move on and try to do better next week! If you overthink and best yourself up then you'll just want to give up.
  • I'm horrible at it too! I know I look like an idiot and I'm always so red and sweaty. But I have three kids and my half hour of running by myself is quite fantastic :) that being said, I can't commit to more than 30-40 minutes a day so I'm happy if i can 3-4 miles in. I've done a couple 5ks with my husband and I'm pretty…
  • I have three kids. I gained a bunch after my second baby and then lost 40 lbs which got me to the lowest I'd ever been. Then I got pregnant with surprise baby #3! I was kind of frustrated since I was really happy with my weight but I was careful during my pregnancy and I didn't do too bad. Honestly, it's post pregnancy…
  • You definitely don't need an app. I started running for 30 seconds and then walked for a few minutes or whatever I felt comfortable with and I gradually upped the running time when I was ready. It's not complicated--I would imagine the app just helps with motivation and accountability. But I would maybe see a doctor about…
  • I started running about a year ago and I did have some knee pain for the first month. It wasn't that bad so I was able to live with it and as I got more used to running it went away and hasn't come back! I'm certainly not an expert and generally you probably don't want to ignore pain, but that as my experience when first…
  • There are lots of bike trailers that also have a handle to use it as a stroller. I pulled my 2 and 4 year olds around in a bike trailer and it was lots of fun and not terribly difficult. Make sure to bring snacks for them!! I fit in short workouts at home whenever I can. Maybe while the kids eat a meal or are occupied with…
  • I've been doing podcasts lately and I'm really enjoying it! I think they distract me a little more and my runs seem to go by faster.
  • Yes! I do so much better outside and I look forward to it more. Try running outside if you can!
  • I've been doing MFP for a year and have lost around 40lbs. I honestly have hardly looked at the nutrition stats they give me haha. I've certainly been working on eating better, but I'm pretty much always over on the carbs. All that to say, you can lose weight being over on your carbs, but maybe just be aware of it and take…
  • I gained at least 10lbs after I had my son. But I've lost 40lbs in the last year so it's totally doable! One thing that really helped was that I started making a good list for the grocery store and I stuck to it. I've also been working on eating fewer processed foods and the list has really helped me resist junk food and…
  • Giving up pop was how I started my weight loss a year ago and I think it's the reason that it's felt relatively easy for me to lose 40lbs. I only drink water at home but I do get a Coke sometes when I go out, though I'm trying to cut back on that now too. Really, I don't miss it at all. The hard part is just convincing…

  • Same here! I've been logging and trying to gradually make healthier choices for the last year now and it's been great. My kids are 3 and 1 and I figure now is the time to get them to enjoy healthy foods. My husband might take a little more work
  • I think I've been pretty successful though I'd still like to tone up a bit. I went from 185 to 145 in the last year and from a size 14 to 8/10 which is the smallest I've ever been. My biggest failure is that I didn't take any before pics!!
  • Ok this thing isn't posting my entire message. Anyway, I was ravenously hungry while breastfeeding my son so I ate everything in site and gained weight. I started tracking last Feb and I've lost 40lbs. You can do it!!
  • I was in the same boat as you a year ago!
  • I have a long torso too and I'm pretty sure it's what made my pregnancies fairly easy. Hopefully it's the same for you! It also means that you probably won't get real big too quickly, if ever. I ended up getting a tankini maternity suit which was comfortable.
  • I have a Misfit Shine and have not had issues with it in the water. But I also find that it doesn't track my workouts perfectly and it doesn't give you a lot of info about your swimming. It really just tracks how long you swim and gives points based on time. As a side note, I originally bought the Misfit Flash which is the…
  • I bought a maternity suit when my regular one didn't fit anymore. Those may not be on clearance right now because you'll likely have to get it at the maternity stores. And they're probably not the best for lap swimming, but maybe you could find something good online. But you'll probably be able to wear your regular suit…
  • Definitely not having anything in your house. You might be really mad that you don't have anything when you want a goodie, but it's the best way to avoid it! I usually go over my calories on the weekend. But I'm usually under every other day so I think it evens out. I've lost 40 lbs and haven't been terribly strict which I…
  • I lost weight while breastfeeding without it affecting my supply. Just be sure that you give yourself the extra calories and use them. You can do it!!
  • I used to need a sweet every night and I lost weight just fine while doing that. Now after a year doing MFP I'm finally getting to the point where it's not hard for me to skip it. I still totally have a sweet every day, but it's not usually at night and it's just something small. The trick that has worked for me is to get…
