  • Depends on your weight. Run 5 miles, that will be close to 500.
  • Salad greens, grilled chicken, Paul Newman's Light Balsamic, and just add whatever extras you want - boiled egg, chopped tomatoes, avocado, bacon bits, bleu cheese for a Cobb. Olives, red onion, light Feta, tomatoes for Greek. If I have the calories available I add a piece of garlic Naan or some homemade croutons. I…
  • That's absolutely not true. I hated running my whole life until I gave it a real try a few years ago. Now, I love it. I fanatically love it. A lot of us have similar stories. You just have to start very slow at very short distances and build up. OP, just run from your front door to the first light pole. Next week run to…
  • Whenever I think about it. Usually 2 or 3 times a week. I think it's helpful to see the fluctuations - it's normal to go up and down a bit even when eating at a deficit.
  • Love mine. Just want it to tell me my heart rate and calorie burns and it does the job. I don't need it to sync with anything so no worries there. Sometimes it takes a minute to get it to read your heart rate, but you just need to take the strap off and run the sensors under water then restrap it and restart the workout.
  • Yes, this. It does get better. You'll have a few super hungry days and then get past it. You can also bump up your daily calories and lower them down more gradually. Good luck!

  • My all time favorite workout video is Crunch Bootcamp Training. It's a great mix of cardio and strength training. Just need light hand weights. Mixes in some squats and different crunches. It's less than $8 on Amazon. And I heartily second Fitness Blender. Love their tank top arms workouts.

  • I've been running for 5 1/2 years and I still feel like a newbie! A lot of it is just learning your body and that only comes with time and more runs. The good thing is, other runners love to talk about running. ;) I'm one of the commenters who suggested you slow down and I still think it's good advice. Some runs will be…
  • Once I month I struggle through a couple of runs and then start my period and every time I'm like, ooohhhhh right.
  • You need to slow down. You're going too fast.
  • I'm already doing this but I'm plateaued and I want to lose a few more pounds and I'd like to lower my BF percentage. The calorie intake that MFP has me at for .5 per week actually seems to be closer to maintenance calories for me. I'm going to drop down a couple hundred calories per day but wanting to cut some BF with my…
  • Do you recommend staggered calorie intake for this? I want to lose 10 lbs that is basically a layer of fat, I'd like to get some of it off to reveal the muscles that I believe are under there. :) I'm at 1450 now but thinking about going down to 1250. Just wondering how many I should eat on the higher days and how many on…
  • Right now I've got Let It Happen by Tame Impala at the top of my workout playlist. In Heaven by Fatboy Slim is in heavy rotation, also Violet by Hole and Debaser by Pixies. I really like the Danger Mouse Grey Album for runs.
  • Oh dear. :( 30 Day Shred is great but it doesn't burn many calories. I do notice that some people wildly overestimate how many calories we burn during exercise. Not on MFP but people I know IRL. It can be disheartening when you realize that a 5 mile run didn't wipe out your entire plate of tacos from lunch.
  • That's more user error, though, right? Anyone can put in any amount of calories for an exercise, but if you've got an estimate on your treadmill and then an estimate on MFP and then you compare those to your HRM, they are not that far apart. I mean, that's my experience. I find that MFP is really off on the things that are…
  • That's not how I do it at all. I use a heart rate monitor when I work out which tells me how many calories I've burned. It's as accurate a measurement as I'm going to get. I put the exercise into MFP and it adds the cals to my goal for the day. That's how MFP is designed to work. I think if you were using a TDEE method or…
  • Don't be sad that you couldn't do 1200 cals per day. That's really low and hard to sustain. Eat more if you're hungry! Good luck!
  • Ah. Well, she's saying she would burn 2000, 1000 of which are "real." I know MFP isn't super accurate, but it's not off by 50%.
  • I'm 5'3" and hover between 130-134 and I burn almost 100 calories per mile.
  • I have a Polar HT4 and oops! Sorry, it was not $30, I paid $55 for it. Worth it, though.
  • I'm sorry - what do you mean by "real calories" ? Are there other kinds of calories out there? Also, you can get a HRM for about $30 on Amazon, I love mine.
  • It's such a bummer. Of course, I'm not running 10 for the calories, but it's a nice bonus. Also, I usually eat a cheeseburger and fries afterward so it all evens out.
  • Ha, sorry I suggested this too after your post. Sadly, I usually come in just under 1000 for a 10 miler. *sigh*
  • Recently I had a lunch that consisted of a Ho Ho and girl scout cookies. And I came in under my calorie goal for the day. Haters gonna hate.
  • I tend to eat lighter at breakfast and lunch to leave some cals for dinner. Then, since I'm eating a heavier dinner I'm pretty full at the end of the day so I may have another 50-100 calories (usually in ghirardelli dark squares) and then I'm generally under a bit at the end. Exercise calories definitely help me to have a…
