I read recently that studies have shown people who weigh themselves every day lose more weight and are more likely to maintain their results. They said it was because it holds you accountable.

It's a token gesture though. If you log 1200 calories eaten and 1000 calories burned from exercise on MFP, it won't tell you you've eaten too little.

Factor in your dinner calories before you start your day, and work backwards so you stay within your goal. Log dinner before you've eaten it. That way you don't even have to look at the menu and you know what to order and how much of it to eat. It also means you can get in more exercise before its too late if needed. Make…

It's a flawed feature because it only counts the calories consumed, not the total after taking into account exercise. If I eat 1200 calories and burn 500 during the day, it doesn't have a problem with it and still gives me a projected weightloss and no warnings.

Today I'm eating cake :D

If you follow a proper VLCD ketosis programme from a company that specialises in such things, you can lose a lot of weight, not feel hungry, and not put it all back on after as long as you follow a refeeding programme and change your eating habits. It's much easier to do it than going it alone, and you know you're getting…

The equipment at my gym costs ~£3k a machine. So to me, £260/year is a pretty good way to be able to use as many different machines as I want. I have endless DVDs and 'games', but I tend to get bored of them and I don't have much space at home. I also feel that gym equipment gives me a better workout and lets me test…

It's actually not unless you're buying basics caged hen eggs or you get a good deal from a local farm. One carton of Two Chicks Egg Whites is equal to 15 eggs. Buying that many separately is about £1 more. If you actually used the yolks, it would be worth it.

In my local Sainsbury's they're with the chilled baking ingredients, near the butter. You def won't find them in tiny Sainsbury's, and their stock varies a bit too depending on the people in the local area (richer areas have bigger home baking sections, specialist food etc.). Worth doing an online delivery if you can't…

I feel the same when my boyfriend is away, even though we're pretty independent generally. Unfortunately I don't know what to suggest about the clock watching, because after several years I still do that myself if I'm not careful. Are there any meetup groups in your area? Do you give yourself a 'schedule' to fill gaps with…

Yes. You should always aim to be around people better than you, not below.

Really? I did when I was 12. Vending machines at school, snack bars at youth clubs, going to the local shop with friends etc.

I love that you put an option for us people who don't have Thanksgiving :) I will compromise - load up on the healthier things like turkey and veg and eat those first, then have a limited amount of potatoes, cheesy veg etc. after that. Sweet things are the hardest for me though. Chocolate is a killer.

Probably, depending on price. There are no other free sites with a good/big enough food database, especially for UK people. And a reason for charging would be to speed up development and iron out bugs...
-
Agree :)

Yeah..it's the "food as enjoyment" habit. Which has got many of us, including me, into this mess in the first place!!

It's a UK site but has super cheap recipes - some are healthier than others: http://agirlcalledjack.com/category/recipes-food-etc/ Meals based around eggs or beans are usually fairly cheap. Cheaper than meat, anyway.

Is it even possible to talk about something new?

My bad, I got the numbers wrong, it was 5 - 10%. I guess I was too lazy to put the link in and other people are too lazy to search, so we're quits ;) http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/319206-burning-more-calories-when-you-re-on-your-period

There's a study which suggests you burn 10-20% more cals.

You're standing up so much straighter and look so much glowier and happier! Nice work :)

Great challenge, I'm in. Highest is 27,455 on 9th May (think I was on holiday walking around pretty much the whole day and went to the gym as well). I aim for 10,000+ every day, which is generally quite hard as I'm sitting at a desk most of the day! Only done 2800 today so far.

I'm a snacker, but when I started reducing my calories I just switched to making better snack choices...replaced chips/crisps with popcorn, started eating nuts, replaced ice cream with frozen yoghurt. Not saying it's a 'perfect' diet because it's not, but it means I get to snack. Biggest things that helped me: - giving…

This. I have friends whose attitude is, "My kid's not fat, so therefore if we eat McDonald's 4 nights a week, it's fine". They don't think about it from a vitamins/minerals/balanced diet or habits perspective. My boyfriend has always been a fussy eater. He's not overweight, but it's kind of embarrassing that he asks for…

I would be incredibly hurt if anyone I worked with said that to me. In some places I can imagine that being interpreted as a low-level form of bullying.
