  • Oh and I'm 5'6, 175lbs. Thats not super overweight, but its about a 28 BMI, so I'm not happy about it. And I used to carry my weight better, but now that I'm in my upper 20's, im starting to get folds and back fat and all this stuff that just makes clothes shopping and being comfortable in my own skin difficult.
  • Used to use Up, but it broke. I finally (months later) got a new band and switched to Fitbit. Excited
  • I'm 26 and a grad student and lab teacher. I'm not super broke, thanks to the horrible convenience of student loans. But I try to save when I can, and refuse to sign up for weight watchers or any program that costs money. You can friend me :)
  • The diet you are talking about is vegan. You can follow a "plant-based diet" and still eat meat and dairy. You just make the majority of your foods plants. Meat is an occasional to a few times a week food, and dairy is occasional or not consumed. Look up Nutritarian - thats a plant based diet that does include meat, just…
  • I agree - When I tried diving headfirst into starving myself and working out all the time, I quit really quickly. I can't say I've lost all that much weight yet, but what works for me is making small changes, getting used to them, and then making more changes. Mostly diet changes. I started juicing, which got me eating…
  • I lost 10 lbs last fall then gained it all back over xmas. Now I'm back at my starting weight and trying all over again. Its frustrating, but just keep at it. Maybe we can lose it and keep it off this time!
  • You can manually edit your calorie goal on the website version of the program. I dont remember which buttons to push but browse around the goals section, and you should find it. Most people suggest finding your TDEE and subtracting 500 off of that for a good goal. I just go with what MFP tells me, but TDEE is probably more…
  • This isnt really advice - but he seriously has his own idea of what his goal wife should look like? Wtf. My boyfriend tells me Im beautiful all the time and im totally overweight. If he showed me a picture of a cheerleader and told me thats what hed prefer, I'd probably cry myself to sleep and end up leaving him. No woman…
  • I weigh every day. I dont obsess about it. For me, its about the average. I wake up, weigh myself, and write it down on a calendar. On saturdays, I use a calculator to take the average for the week, and I put that number into excel to see my progress on a graph. Whats important about weighing yourself is to understand that…
  • I want to agree with your frustration. I have been there. I hate measuring - last year I lost ten lbs and not a single measurement said I lost anything. I was fitting better into clothes yet my hips and belly were the same measurements. Super frustrating. Made me cry once. I much prefer the scale, because even if its going…
  • I am reading a book on nutrition, and it could be a lack of nutrients in your diet. I have headaches alot too, and am trying to improve my diet for a variety of health problems. The book im reading says alot of health issues can be curbed and prevented by eating a diet that focuses on veggies, fruits, beans, and nuts, with…
  • You can add me too. I am 5'6 at 173 lbs. I lost some, gained it all back during xmas, and am back to losing again. Rather than eating the same things and just logging and reducing portions, I'm trying to actually change what I eat. Slowly I am adding more veggies and I'm eating healthier versions of food, like wheat…
  • Good job!! Im trying to worry less about calories and eat better food. And I've taken "before" pics like 5 times now... cant wait to have something to compare them to :p
  • You need to sit down with your girlfriend and have a serious conversation. Explain to her how you feel about food, how you dont have control when you are around bad food, and how she needs to support your new way of eating so that you can be successful. Tell her that she can help you, that she needs to encourage you, and…
  • It sounds to me like you are basically at your goal weight. I've heard that the last five lbs are the hardest to lose. I'm about to start experimenting with juice. I bought a juicer and joined a 30 day challenge (not fasting, just one juice a day) on this website http://juicerecipes.com/
  • This was nice to read. Over my holiday, I gained back EVERY pound I had lost... I'm now back at my starting weight. But I'm trying to not be depressed about it. Instead I'm doing more nutritional research and am getting more serious about changing the way that I eat.
  • I feel the same way. I've tried several times but they kind of annoy me...
  • I am learning this lesson. Yes, from a scientific point of view a calorie is a unit of energy and technically they are all the "same". That technicality doesnt annoy me as much as the word "carb". Did you know that EVERYTHING organic is made up of carbohydrates? Do you even know what a carbohydrate is? Its a chain of…
  • My advice is to do some research in your spare time. Learn what the food that you are putting into your body actually does to you. Learn what foods could be better. Watch some documentaries on nutrition. Watch something inspirational. Ive done tons of research and am slowly learning how to change my diet for the better.…
  • Alot of good advice before me ^^ To add to that; For me, its not about "dieting" and "losing weight" as much as it is a total life change. I've read tons of success stories that say the same thing. When you are in the mindset of restriction, hunger, denial of food groups, and thinking of it as a "diet", you tend to fail…
  • One of my friends found out that the hormones in the different contraceptives was literally making her fat - some weird way her body reacted to them. We were afraid she had a thyroid problem until she got a battery of tests. Her doctor gave her an IUD that has no hormones. Thats another option, but they wont give it to you…
  • Have you been on the same pill over and over? There are tons of contraceptive methods out there. I've tried several pills, the patch, the ring, and the shot. Love the shot the most, because I completely stopped having a menstral cycle, but it made me voraciously hungry. Took weeks, maybe a few months before the hunger went…
  • Omg just watched that movie too and loved it. So inspirational!! I bought a juicer on amazon for $45. Comes highly recommended out of the cheap juicers. Hamilton Beach 67601A Big Mouth Juice Extractor, Black Check out this website: http://juicerecipes.com/ Everything is free - I just signed up for a 30 day juice challenge…
  • Thanks for sharing! I too have a big belly and its the first, and really only, place I want to lose. I dont mind my big butt or the cellulite on my legs so much, and I have very little fat on my upper body or arms. But my belly is far too large - I look pregnant in tight clothing. And websites and books classify my belly…
  • I have been having tummy trouble for MONTHS. It sucks, but it does get better, I promise!! For a long time it seemed like every time I ate a salad I'd be having tummy trouble the next day. Now most days I find myself fairly regular, and even when I have tummy trouble its not nearly as urgent or bad. Its just a fact of life…
  • Got sick right at the end of the month, so there is no way I'll meet my goal. But I walked really far so good for me.
  • I dont think I'll make my goal, but I'm really proud that I walked this far in a month!
  • I'm 5'6 and 165 today (hit my november weight goal!!). I've lost ten lbs now, five of those have been from using this my fitness pal app. I eat whatever I want, but small portions. But months ago I started working on my general diet and changing from eating fast food and drinking sodas to eating more healthy, eating at…
  • That is excellent!!
