  • I have cheat meals (I only do whole days as vacation/holiday), but I also get back on the wagon the next day, no big deal. It is only the long term trend that matters.
  • *shrug Rabbit legs taste like strong chicken to me and I could eat that all day. The saddle is nasty though. The smell of it cooking is so gross.
  • I make cultured dairy items and yeah, you have to set up everything that ONLY the strains of bacteria you want are growing. If something else gets in there and outcompetes the useful bacteria...OMG it is disgusting. I have only had one bad batch of yogurt in the hundreds by now I have probably made and it stank up the…
  • Today is our wedding anniversary, so this is the spread when we get home later: Fresh figs wrapped in prosciutto Capicola Dry salami Grape tomatoes Kalamata olives Artichoke hearts Pepperoncini Manchego Pecorino romano Buffalo mozzarella Fresh basil Fresh Jersey butter (well, technically, I made this at 11pm last night...…
  • This depends more on my body that day and time than any particular food. If I am feeling bloated or exhausted, no food will be all that appealing, regardless of how little I may have ate that day. But if it is what my body has designated a EAT ALL THE FOODS day, then ugh, anything wants to make me run off the rails.
  • You can pry Truvia and liquid Splenda from my cold, dead hands. I think obesity is more of a serious threat to my health and longevity than artificial sweeteners.
  • I was at Costco the other day and they had a sample booth for Field Roast Italian Sausage. Honestly, I didn't even know what I picked up until I already put it in my mouth then looked after swallowing. Cuz I was really hungry and stressed. I could not tell at all that it was not meat. That is some sorcerer level stuff…
  • Well, I'm having a problem with slugs eating my strawberries, but my blueberries nothing touches and they are just out of this world good this year. I have some tomatoes in progress. I had raspberries, but I went on vacation during a vital part of their fruiting, it didn't rain enough, and never completely developed.…
  • Basically. I don't even really think too much about anything special pre or post work out.
  • But 2/3 of Americans are overweight or obese so apparently they can't be trusted.
  • Bingo. I keep a ten pound range from 120 to 130. If I get too close to the top or bottom of the range, I adjust accordingly. Otherwise, you are going to have a bad time if you try to stick to a single pound weight or within just 1lb of that.
  • Pure Protein. If that's not an option for some reason, the Kroger Simple Truth ones aren't that bad.
  • Husband and I love asparagus or zucchini on the grill. The grilled zucchini paired with tzatzki is amazing. You can grate veggies into things like this delicious veggie meatloaf. You can put mushrooms, tomatoes, leeks, etc, into frittatas. You can put basically any veggie you want really into a vegetarian chili. You can…
  • Ole Mexican X-Treme Wellness High Fiber wraps
  • Using eggs that were more than two weeks old is the only consistent thing that has worked for me. I don't even bother anymore boiling fresher eggs.
  • My husband is German too and absolutely refuses to eat any sweet incarnation of pumpkin. He says that's disgusting, pumpkin is a savory food and everyone knows it, except Americans apparently. His loss in my opinion.
  • Well, yeah, what else are they supposed to do with males? It is a business. I don't expect them to kill themselves financially to keep every male that comes from the process. It is the best I can do without owning my own dairy animal (and I would eat the males or sell the meat otherwise, so...yeah) and I have no interest…
  • Probably not. You probably want to avoid buying meat in a supermarket altogether and look for a local farmer where you can verify how the animal is raised and slaughtered. That's expensive and why I don't eat as much meat as I used to.
  • I used to have exercise headaches that would have me out for the rest of the day hating life and vomiting. I went on indomethacin and that helped a lot of prevent them until I lost enough weight that I stopped getting them altogether.
  • I basically don't bake sweets anymore because it is too calorie rich, most recipes make more than my family can eat, and I can't keep my hands out of the bowl. I confine the majority of my sweets baking to the six-seven weeks from Thanksgiving to NYE and rarely bake outside of that time frame.
  • Basically. Anyway, you would actually have to eat more than 3500 to gain one pound because you would have to eat 3500 over your maintenance for that day. For me to gain a pound in one day, I would have to eat 5700 calories. Probably more like 6000, just because of the amount of energy it would take to digest that. I have…
  • So this isn't really a commerical, pre-packaged product, but I saw hatch peppers for sale for $1.49lb and bought them on impulse. They had three varieties: mild, hot, extra hot. I picked up hot and extra hot. The peppers themselves smell divine. They also taste alright. However, there was absolutely NO HEAT in those…
  • Like you deep fry anything else I guess. Freeze it in an ice cube tray, batter, and fry. Heh. But seriously, it is a thing... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fried_Coke
  • There's a picture here. I could totally be duped by that. The description is, "Fresh Asian greens tossed in a tasty Oriental vinaigrette and topped with crispy noodles, toasted almonds and golden fried chicken." It sounds great and rather healthy too. The salad itself is rather huge. I've never managed to eat the whole…
  • With falafel, you don't even have do more than just soak the chickpeas. You DO NOT want to cook them prior to baking or frying or even grilling the patties. Falafel dough freezes extremely well so you can make a large batch and divide it into quart Ziploc bags to pull out of the freezer whenever. I have actually a huge…
  • This is what I did. I decided I didn't like some particular commercial dairy practices. I started looking into it and found a regional dairy that hits all the marks for me for responsible husbandry and stewardship. Yeah, I have to pay more, but it is worth it me. I also make a lot of dairy products on my own - butter,…
  • Haagen-Dazs. I have yet to find a B&J flavor that could be described as better than mediocre and definitely worth the calories. I've about completely given up on B&J. Yesterday I followed a recommendation posted here for So Delicious's Salted Caramel Crunch and forget both Haagen-Dazs and B&J, I don't even need dairy ice…
  • I don't think that is a picture of a meatball sub? :p
  • Pasta Zero is really good. I completely recommend, particularly the fettuccine for pad thai.
  • Yup. Salt is generally necessary for bread because it controls the growth of the yeast and helps develop the bread's structure. It also acts as a light preservative and makes the bread taste better. I mean, you can bake salt free bread, but the quality will suffer a bit.
