I try to keep under 160lbs. I did a weigh in every morning after I went to the bathroom. I stopped in November. I wanted to see if I could keep the same range by counting calories and following my body's responses to eating. So I started weighing again this week... and I was at around 160lbs. So I was quite pleased with…

I do a mix of stuff. 5K runs, stairmachine (these are the only two cardio exercises I find that significantly increase my heart rate). Weight training. I also started swimming (I'm a terrible, terrible swimmer). I keep cardio workouts to 30 minutes or less. For weight training my current routine takes me about 30 minutes…

The OP has barely run before. She's starting from zero. Zero to 10K. In a few weeks. What awesome plan is that?

Any chance you could share your workout routines too?

It's mostly about not overexerting herself. And hey if all it takes is a couple of weeks, great.

You sure set your bar awfully high. I wouldn't even attempt 10k runs for now. Just focus on 5k. 10 min mile is an excellent pace considering how long you've run (5k = 3.3 miles). It takes months to materially lower your time. It took me two years to get down to a 7.5min pace, and I can only do that 1-2 times a season.

Meh. I've been using a HRM for years now, I log the calories, eat them back, and I lost a bunch of weight and I've been maintaining for two years. Your calorie counts are very high. A 24 min 5K run for me barely burns 400 cals for me. Did you set that thing properly? Max 165 HR is terrible, BTW. Run faster.

Having weighed them over and over and over dry and then cooked, they're remarkably consistent in term of final cooked weight.

Yes as you get older your metabolism requires less energy. I figure I needed about 2500 calories in my early 20s, now I'm around 1900-2000.

I no longer log lettuce, onions, raw tomatoes, carrots nor cucumbers. Last time I weighed lettuce for a salad it was 2 calories.

I guess I should've taken pictures. Ah well. Calorie counted. Ate whatever. Went from 215 something to 158 lbs. I'm old too - 43 now. I exercised 30-40 minutes 5 times a week (around 400 cals burned each workout). Have kept weight off now for over two years. Still counting calories, still exercising.

Low battery will often give you crazy readings (like 220 BPM straight down to zero and back up again). Simple answer is that your second workout wasn't as intense.

So many hot women at running events.

At your weight your time is very, very good. Keep losing weight, you'll get faster :)

Was at the beach a few weeks ago, an attractive woman said "nice muscles" to me.

Plants DO make their own pesticides. Pyrethrins being well known, the best known source being chrysanthemums (although they're produced in varying amounts by other plants as well). Nicotine is another wonderful insecticide.

I can't directly link to it because he uses frames and won't allow direct linking to the article.…

Yes indeed, they do. Increased heart rate uses up more calories than resting. It MUST. However, the increase is quite small.

Here's the kettlebell study... http://www.acefitness.org/getfit/studies/kettlebells012010.pdf I did the included workout for a few weeks. It is exhausting. Not quite 20 cals/min though. And the low end was only 8 cals/min.

10:25min/mile? That's not a bad pace at all.
-
What's your pace?

I did my own calculations for Kokuho rice, 45 grams raw = 100 grams cooked, 160 calories. Most rices are around that value if I use my rice cooker.

"More likely"? Can you give me a number? Like someone who goes to the Y is 43.56% more likely to go on Tuesdays? Or wut?

Every gym has the dropping weights rule, because the weights can break if they're dropped.
-
How is this different than every other gym?

Started my faster-running training today. Did a 4 minute/km pace, but only for one km, because holy carp that's strenuous. Gonna try to do a May 5K in 20 minutes. Should get me top 3 for my age.
