  • Whatever you do...don't quit! A couple things I have tried that have helped: 1. Try eliminating sugar from your diet, if you haven't already. Even if it's just for a week, and see if that helps. 2. Try eating only/ whole grains for carbs for breakfast and lunch, and no starches for dinner. (So, no potatoes, rice, pasta,…
  • I would agree with the brown rice, etc. Also try to include some fruit juices, potatoes, beans, and whole grain pastas. All these are relatively low cost (except maybe the juice). Be well.
  • You could combine your goal number of servings for both fruits and vegetables, and count the tomatoes towards that number. If you are trying to eat 5 servings of fruits and 4 servings of veggies, count those tomatoes towards 9 total servings. We can spend a lot of time worrying about little things, instead of looking at…
  • I hear ya! I can honestly say, I have NEVER had small calves - even when I was at a "normal" body weight. I have come to accept that it is just the way I am built. I have looked at old photos of my grandmother, and even when she was young and thin, she had them too. I have, like you jsecret, never been able to wear tall…
  • Consider yourself kicked in the butt!
  • I agree with gennybunny - I would rather throw it out than wear it. Another option would be to save it as a leftover, but not eat it. Wait for it to get moldy, then throw it out - I promise you won't feel bad throwing it away then!
  • I too used to feel that I could never quit drinking soda - Diet Coke was my "friend". I remember eating dinner out with my husband and ordered a Diet Coke. I felt so awful - bloated and overfull. I was miserable. I decided to lay off the sodas altogether and I would agree - I feel tons better! I have increased the amount…
  • Thanks for the good encouragement. I've been working diligently toward a large goal since August, but with very little results since October...yet still plugging away - working out, eating well, and in general taking better care of myself. Yes, it is dissapointing when the scale doesn't show the numbers I have been hoping…
  • Thanks for your input - I just want to respond to a couple things...I have a scale that measures my % body fat. In August and September, that was coming down slowly. Since October, it hasn't budged. I have tried increasing my calories, but found that to be unfruitful - in fact, I felt bloated and all around not so good,…
  • Autumnleann - this is a good step in the right direction! I was you when I was your age, and wish I had started sooner. Hang in there and keep working hard - it will pay off! I'm praying for you!
  • I have used Mary Kay lipsticks for a long time (20 years) and absolutely LOVE them. They wear nicely, and feel nice and creamy going on. I have tried others, but these are, in my opion, the best I have used. You would have to reapply after lunch - not much lasts through eating, etc. I also use a lip liner, which helps your…
  • First off - congrats on your HUGE weight loss! I think it's awesome that you are aware of how your behavior has been. I find that taking some time to examine my attitudes and behaviors is a good way to gain perspective on life and how I handle the stresses of it. The other part of this, as you suggest, could be hormonal.…
  • I was on steriods for a neural condition a few years ago. I received a MAJOR intravenous dose for 3 days in a row, and then took oral steriods for a couple weeks, in decreasing amounts like you describe. They made me feel "hyper"...like I had to be doing something all the time, and also made me feel like my heart was…
  • First of all - congrats on your marathon training! As far as your foot injury...the doc usually advises icing for 20 minutes on at least every hour at first, ibuprofen, and elevation. I have had fasciitis before, but mine was more heel and arch pain. There may be a foot support you can purchase over the counter, but I…
  • Thanks for all your encouragement. You guys are awesome! It is strange to think that not eating enough could keep you from losing weight. Last week, I actually bumped up my calories a bit, because it seemed like the only reasonable explanation as to why my weight loss had slowed down, but then the injury came along and…
  • I would advise seeing a dietitian NOT a nutritionist. The dietitian would most likely be covered by your insurance, if your doctor sends you there. A registered dietitian has done at the minimum 4 years of college as well as a residency and is registered with your state board, whereas anyone can call themselves a…
  • For spaghetti, that would be 2 ounces dry - it makes about 1 cup when cooked. Check out this website for other types of pasta... http://www.barillaus.com/Home/Pages/Measuring_Pasta.aspx
  • I think the biggest challege for me would be portion control. I have found that it is not so much WHAT I eat, but the quantity I eat that causes me to feel guilty and miserable - and of course gain weight. Eat if you are hungry, stop when you are full. You can even enjoy a couple bites of dessert (just dont overdo it!).…
  • Thanks for the encouraging words. I know I have been in the same place - praying for a miracle weight loss overnight! BUT, deep down I knew that God was calling me into being a better steward of the body He gave me, and I have done a pretty poor job of taking care of it, until recently. More encouragement: God IS faithful…
